Marceline scanned his face from head to toe but she kept her peace and did not say a word to him.

Seeing that, he took it as his cue to carry on and do the needful. 

"Please, Your Majesty, do not be mad at Kaia anymore. It was all my fault."

Kaia frowned at his statement. He was taking the bullet for her. How wrong that was.

"Murrell."

"Stop it, Kaia. I should not have been scared and manned up to my responsibilities. Coming to you should have been my first priority."

"Even though I may not have agreed?" Marceline asked, lifting a brow.

"Yes. I would have still tried."

"For how long? You would soon find out that I cannot be persuaded easily."

"I know. I am not trying to prove anything to you, Your Majesty but please, I love your daughter with all my heart and want to spend the rest of my life with her."
