Emberlynn…. You know where we are...Ember… I wake slowly, with an image embedded in my mind, and a voice invading my dreams. I look around, having a sense of familiarity. The sun, peeking over the horizon, touches my scales, I close my eyes, thankful for the warmth, the morning birds sing their melodies peacefully, notifying that it's a new day and a new start. I open my eyes to the sight of Sam, lying on my side, still asleep. I smile and nuzzle her lightly, feeling her soft cheek against my nose. As a light zephyr flows all around us, I move carefully. Trying not to disturb her sleep, I use my tail to prevent her from falling as I move my body from lying down to standing up. I gently put her head to the ground, it's early and I'm hungry.
I move to the ledge and sniff the air deeply. To smell if anyone or anything has entered the area. Nothing… just… the smell of trees, and animals skittering around the ground far below me. I move forward and feel my claws leave the floating ledge that awaits falling to the green ocean of trees the moves all the way to the horizon. And farther. Somehow it's...in a way beautiful but with the bitter cold, it makes it…. Lonely in a way. I catch a flight and go hunting, assimilating into the trees. I walk silently for a bit. As I inhale trying to categorize each smell, trying to find something that catches my nose.
I don't know how long and how far I've been walking, I relaxed with my silent mind and my silent environment. Then, a very unique smell, well I can't say that, everything has a very unique smell to it, but something like me, that relies on her scent, once you smell it, you can never forget what the smell connects to. The first through in my head… deer, And not far from here, I quicken my pace and twist through the bundle of trees, making sure my scales don't make any noise as they rub against the bark, blends of colors, brown and green, colors of flowers, oranges and reds, and yellows speckle the trees and the ground. I see light peeking a bush in my path, The scent is strong here, they're close. I slowly widen the branches, to allow my eyes to them. And yes, a herd of them a few tail lengths away, I back away, a plan materializing in my mind. I find a clearing where I can take flight. I find one a few paces back, and quietly, I stretch my wings open, and jump up so my wings and push me up into the air. I get high enough so the deer don't see me before gravity takes me, I close my wings and fall….I close my eyes, hearing the wind and feeling the presence of the ground coming to greet me. Before it's too late, I open my eyes and bend my body to counteract the gravity, opening my wings at the same time, I grab my victim, in one swoop and gain altitude again, I feel it, squirm and scream. As I finish gaining altitude, I use my other claw to… silence it. And I feel Sam's dream-like state, as I go towards where she sleeps soundly.
