Capítulo 38: Progressing Magically

The following months saw Hadrian garner a lot of attention. His exploits in the subjugation of the Nundu and the rumors that he singlehandedly sent the dark wizards home, made him very popular.

Hadrian was plastered on the Ugandan Wizarding Newspaper, as well as the Daily Prophet - where they theorized whether or not he was using dark magic or if Hadrian had made a deal with the Necromancers in which they were allowed to slaughter students and wreak havoc as long as Hadrian looked good in his 'retaliation'.

It was all complete nonsense - of course. It seemed that Rita Skeeter wanted to cling onto the 'abandoned child becomes dark' conception of Hadrian in an attempt to bash him, or James and Lily.

This made Hadrian very annoyed. He wasn't the only one that was annoyed either; Charlus and Dorea demanded the Daily Prophet post a retraction of all the things they had said about Hadrian, to which they vehemently protested that they were only 'speculations', and 'theories', so there was no harm done.

Dorea had then come up with the brilliant idea of using the gold in Slytherin's vault to buy 25% of the newspaper. This had them scrambling to appease the Blacks after that not so subtle threat.

Hadrian's livelihood at Uagadou had changed too.

He'd found no peace, not even in the library! This was extremely frustrating because he had been looking for the solution to getting around the barrier in his mind that prevented him from unlocking his Animagus form and potential Metamorph ability, to which he was met with no progress.

It was made worse with the gaggles of girls that had taken to following Hadrian and giggling whenever he passed became incessant in stalking him around campus. Most of them seemed to be older than Hadrian, more specifically - in Koni's year.

With no progress made on his Animagus and Metamorph abilities; Hadrian took to practicing his wandless magic with more fervor then he had done at home or Aunriton. Every week that passed, saw Hadrian's Focus Tattoos becoming slightly lighter.

Hadrian had stopped practicing with his runes. The book, whilst it was very big, catered to beginners and had only taught the rudimentary skills needed in runes. It developed on those basic skills and showed many tips and tricks in ways that they could be used more effectively, but it was lacking the more advanced and challenging aspects of runes.

After all, there was only so much you could do with the elementary runes that they taught you how to use.

However, Hadrian was appreciative of Daphne's thoughtfulness to buy him a gift on something that Hadrian enjoyed, so he'd swore that next time he saw her - he would buy her a book on spell-creation for beginners.

Aside from wandless magic, Hadrian had also furthered his Parseltongue abilities with the tome he'd picked up from the Slytherin vault. It had many 'regular' spells with the Parseltongue equivalent, which Hadrian enjoyed.

What Hadrian did not enjoy, was the time in which it took to learn a Parseltongue spell. The difference between a spell in Parseltongue and a spell in Latin was that the spell in Parseltongue required the hard task of focusing magic into the lower-third of your mouth.

This made learning the spell very difficult, it also gave reasoning as to why Din had only been able to use one Parseltongue spell. Once you'd learned the spell, it wasn't very difficult to repeatedly use it, like you would with a spell spoken in Latin.

Hadrian discovered this when he had spent nearly two weeks learning how to use the spell 'Flipendo', in Parseltongue. It had taken him that long to learn the spell, but once he had done so, it was as if he was using the regular 'Flipendo' spell - but one that had been magically amped by x2. Hadrian had learned other Parseltongue spells too - although, most of the spells he'd learned were those that he could use in duels.

It was in these months of training, that Hadrian had found that if he was stumped on one area of magic, then he could progress elsewhere.

Ever since the Nundu incident and people had begun treating him like a hero, he'd wanted nothing more but to submerge himself into his schoolwork. He was always going to do that regardless, as he wanted to graduate the school early, so he could move onto the next school he had his eye on...

Eidetic Memory helped tremendously with learning the content he needed - especially the 3 unique subjects that Uagadou taught.

His Alchemy work had been steadily improving, but since Alchemy was such a diverse and difficult subject composed of many other types of magic, it had been slower than the other subjects Hadrian was learning.

Astronomy proved quite easy, the simple act of remembering the names of stars and their positions was incredibly simple. Hadrian felt as though he could have taken the first year exam for Astronomy the first week he arrived at Uagadou.

In a subject where the grade you received was decided on your ability to remember names and positions, Hadrian was guaranteed to prosper.

Hadrian had hoped that Self-Transfiguration would be challenging and a more worthwhile skill to learn, and he was right!

This branch of magic was extremely useful. Essentially, a master of Self-Transfiguration could replicate the abilities of a Metamorphmagus, to a certain extent. This style of Human Transfiguration could be used to change people's hair, face, and body. They could even transform others into an Animal of their choice!

They hadn't got quite that far yet - the reasons being; it was very difficult, and it was very dangerous.

Hadrian had done well in Self-Transfiguration, but nothing close to what Hadrian was capable of doing with regular transfiguration.

His genetic disposition to performing well with Transfiguration spells, which was a result of the Potters' consistent mastering of the branch which gave their descendants an inherent affinity for Transfiguration, as well as the heir ring that bolstered Hadrian's transfiguration abilities - had made Hadrian one of the only students that Uagadou had taught that could pick up the spells so easily.

This was impressive because Hadrian had been grasping Self-Transfiguration very quickly, and without a wand too! That was a great display of Hadrian's talent in the wandless magic-wielding continent of Africa but was even more impressive in Britain. The only spells people learned wandlessly in Britain were the easier, household spells like cleaning charms, unlocking charms, etc.

Aside from developing his magical studies and being hounded by his fellow students, Hadrian had a pretty straightforward couple of months. Which was more than one could say for Daphne and Theo!

Hadrian could remember that night Daphne and Theo had called Hadrian. He hadn't called Theo more than three times on the mirror, and when they did talk - it was always the regular 'guy-talk'. They'd say hello; Theo would talk about the pranks he and two twins from Gryffindor would work on, and Hadrian would tell him about how he could pull off the cooler and more impressive pranks if he'd taken runes more seriously at Aunriton.

Theo wasn't one for small talk, so they'd mutually decided that they would talk only when something significant comes up. In actuality, it was Theo that had decided - especially after he told him about the Nundu/Dark Wizard situation. He seemed a little bit frightened, but it was completely overshadowed when Hadrian went into detail about how he had taken down the beast.

Theo had begun comparing him to superheroes, and said that Hadrian was bound to run into trouble again, so he'd better tell him about his next adventure!

Daphne, however, was furious with Hadrian once she found out what exactly a Nundu was.

"You didn't tell me it was a spike-covered, toxic breath spewing, MONSTER!", she shouted from the other end of the mirror.

Hadrian winced under her loud voice, glad that the rooms had silencing runes embedded into the doors, "It didn't seem like...a good time."

"When is a GOOD TIME?!", Daphne spat, "What's next, fighting a dragon empty-handed?"

Hadrian smirked, "I don't think a Dragon would want to fight me..."

Daphne's eyebrows twitched in annoyance before her face settled into a calm and frosty exterior - this wasn't Daphne Greengrass speaking, this was the Ice-Queen.

"...Hadrian.", she whispered lowly, her lips pursed tightly, "Tell me you are not thinking about fighting a Dragon."

"...I am not thinking about fighting a Dragon?", Hadrian replied, finishing the statement as if it was a question.

Daphne scanned Hadrian's features, not content with the reply he gave her - but accepting it nonetheless, "Good."

The rest of the conversation had continued normally, with Daphne finally dropping her 'Ice-Queen' persona.

One of the latest conversations Hadrian had with Daphne and Theo, was during Halloween. Apparently, someone had released a Troll inside the school!

"...A Troll?", Hadrian asked - wondering if they were having him on.

"YES!", the pair shouted.

"You're telling me that a Troll, a creature known for being quite loud and brutish, somehow made its way into the school dungeons undetected....?"

"...Yes.", the pair repeated once more.

"And what did your Headmaster have to say about that?"

"He told us to go to our dormitories.", Daphne responded, clicking her tongue in annoyance.

"...Theo."

"Yes, Hadrian?"

"Didn't you tell me your dormitory was in the dungeons?"

"Yes, Hadrian."

"And Dumbledore still told you to go there?"

"Yes, Hadrian."

Hadrian narrowed his eyes in annoyance, "Stop that!"

Theo sniggered before answering, "Yes, Hadrian."

Daphne slapped Theo's head, "Stop it, it's annoying me now!"

Theo rubbed his head as he answered, "Yes, Daphne. S-sorry! That time it was an accident, promise.", he said as he quickly raised his arms to block his head when he saw Daphne's hand hovering above it.

Daphne showed a triumphant smile in response.

"Thank you, Daph."

"No problem.", Daphne smiled warmly at Hadrian.

"Oh-wait! You didn't tell him about what happened to his brother!", Theo said laughing, while he reminisced.

"What happened to him?"

"He went out looking for the Troll-"

"Idiot.", Daphne mumbled loud enough for them to hear.

"- and ended up being put on his arse by one of the Aurors!"

"How on earth did that happen, then?" Hadrian chuckled.

"Well the Auror is not very...aesthetically pleasing to the eyes - so Arthur may have gotten a bit confused...-"

"He looks like a Troll!", Daphne blurted out, unable to stop her laughter, "I think he may actually be Part-Troll, but that man was incredibly large and ugly!"

"So what, I suppose the Troll Auror retaliated because he was attacked by Arthur, who thought the man was a Troll?"

Daphne and Theo nodded their heads, snickering into their palms whilst doing so.

"Banished him into the wall, Arthur ended up breaking his arm!", Theo exclaimed.

Hadrian shook his head in incredulity, "Why on earth was he looking for a Troll in the first place?"

Daphne shrugged her shoulders, "I guess he was trying to prove something..."

"Yeah, how to become Troll food!", Theo retorted.

Hadrian laughed when Daphne responded, "Couldn't even do that right."

That conversation had taken place two months ago, and as it was nearing Christmas - Hadrian was finally going to reunite with his best friends.

He'd finally be able to get round to doing his next ritual and hopefully uncover the solution on getting past the barrier that he encounters in his Animagus training, with the help of Merlin, of course.
