It was noon. It was also Hadrian's first venture into Wizarding Uganda's City.
The city was not very large, there were specific areas where only Wizards would be able to enter and areas where Muggles and Wizards could enter. Quite unfairly, the Wizards were allowed in both areas, whereas the Muggles had no way of even seeing the 'Wizard-Only' areas.
Hadrian was looking forward to a relaxing day at the City. Hopefully, he'd be able to buy something that could only be found there. He'd wanted to buy gifts for other people too, but he knew he had plenty of time to visit, and could do his shopping during the other times he'd be in the city.
Hadrian was wearing a slightly tight, dark blue cutoff shirt with matching shorts. He'd stacked up on clothes suitable for the intense sun that Uganda seemed to favor - it was also completely different from the climate he was used to.
By his feet, the two-way mirror began vibrating. Hadrian deftly picked it up and tapped the base of the mirror with his wand.
"'Rian?", Daphne called out as her face materialized in the mirror.
"Hello, Daph.", Hadrian replied.
"Hey! Sorry for not calling sooner, I just thought it would be better to call on a day where I had no lessons."
"It's alright, Daph,", Hadrian said, trying to assure that he wasn't offended, "I was about to do the same - you just happened to beat me to it."
Daphne smiled brightly, "That's the first time, huh."
"Yeah, enjoy this moment - it will never happen again," Hadrian teased, "So...how's Hogwarts."
"Oh!- it's alright here. The castle is ginormous, and it's easy to get lost, but I'm managing."
"What House are you in?"
"Guess!"
"Ravenclaw...?", Hadrian asked, bracing himself for an answer.
Daphne stayed silent for a while, face deadpan before she shouted out, "Yes!"
Hadrian sighed in relief, "I knew it. If it wasn't Ravenclaw, it would've been Slytherin."
Daphne nodded, "Yup. The Sorting Hat said that I would do good in Slytherin and Ravenclaw, but I'm happy to be in my mother's house. I wouldn't have minded being in Slytherin - but I didn't want to be in the same house as Draco Malfoy.", Daphne spat his name out with a scowl on her face.
"The Malfoy Heir? Why?", Hadrian asked, confused.
"His father keeps pestering my father for a Marriage Contract." Daphne tensed her jaw in frustration, "He told my father that if it isn't me, then it should be 'Tori."
"'Tori's your...sister? Astoria, right?", Hadrian asked, vaguely remembering Daphne talking about her during one of their 'Duelling-Dates'.
Daphne nodded, "Obviously, my father would never go through with it - but Lucius Malfoy is very influential, so he might do something to force my father into accepting."
"So, his son - Draco, has been bothering you?"
Daphne nodded once more, "He's got it in his head that I'll be marrying him..."
Hadrian chuckled.
"It's not funny!", Daphne shouted through the screen, "I have to do my 'I-don't-care' face and act really cold to make him go away - and even that doesn't work half the time!"
"Your what?", Hadrian asked, the corners of his mouth curling upwards, "Let me see it."
Daphne blushed, "Alright, don't laugh - I had to practice this for a while."
Daphne's face quickly became deadpan, her gaze became sharp and her lips became tightly pressed together.
Hadrian laughed.
"You said you wouldn't laugh!", Daphne scowled.
"I'm sorry-," Hadrian said in between the laughs, "-It's just, you looked exactly like my Grandmother when she's angry."
Daphne's face softened before she too laughed with Hadrian, "I guess that makes sense - my mother was the one that taught me it, and she's always using it on daddy."
Hadrian's laughter died down, allowing him to ask his next question, "What about Theo?"
"Theo's doing good. Guess what house he's in!"
"...erm, Gryffindor?"
Daphne shook her head, "Slytherin."
Hadrian opened his mouth in an 'o' shape, "That...makes sense."
"Really, how?"
"I heard he's always hiding his...' comics'...from his father and he can be very sneaky when he's pranking.", Hadrian explained.
Daphne shrugged, "I can see that. It doesn't matter too much anyway. We were in different houses in Aunriton, so it doesn't mean we can't be friends."
Hadrian nodded, "I don't think I'll be calling him today, tell him I said hello though."
"Sure... What are you doing that will you too busy to call?", Daphne asked with a smile.
"I'm going out to the city with my friend, Koni. She's a third-year that was participating in the dueling tournament."
Daphne's smile fell abruptly when she heard the words, 'going out' and 'she' in the same sentence. Hadrian however, took that as her regretting that she didn't participate in the tournament the year after his.
"Don't be upset, you and I are participating in the next one together!", Hadrian said with a grin.
"Oh...y-yeah. Yeah, that'll be fun."
"What's wrong?", Hadrian asked, noticing that something was bothering her.
"Nothing! Just...I have to go now, I missed breakfast, but I'm sure there's something in the kitchens."
"Oh, I forgot there was a two-hour difference here. You shouldn't have missed breakfast to talk to me Daph!"
Daphne smiled softly, "I wanted to. Bye, Rian..."
Daphne closed the connection between the mirrors, just as Hadrian was in the middle of responding, "Bye...Daph."
Hadrian placed the two-way mirror underneath his bed.
He then stepped out of his room after grabbing a bottomless money pouch filled with galleons. As soon as he swung the door open, he was met with a bouncing and smiling Koni.
"You took forever!", Koni moaned, "It's supposed to be the other way round..."
"I was talking to my friend. I haven't seen her in a while, so we had a lot to talk about.", Hadrian said.
Koni bristled, "That's...nice."
Hadrian nodded slowly, "Yes...it is. Let's go-?", Hadrian was cut off mid-sentence by Koni, who grabbed his hand and began running.
She smiled and said, "Let's hurry, I've got so much to show you!"
Hadrian sighed in exasperation but smiled nonetheless.
The remainder of the day was filled with Koni dragging Hadrian around the city. They'd been to the fun-fair, ridden on roller-coasters, and went inside the haunted house!
At this moment, Koni was walking down the street with Hadrian, latched onto his arm, and holding a ginormous Hippogriff plush that Hadrian had won for her.
"See! I told you it would be fun!", Koni shouted as they walked into the wizarding area. Specifically, the fortune-telling attraction.
"Seriously? We're going in there...?", Hadrian asked in annoyance, "You do know most of the time, they are faking it. Even if they claim they are 'Seers'."
You would think that there would be less 'fake' fortune tellers in the Wizarding World, but no! It was even easier to fool others. If you claimed to be a Seer, there was no way for people to refute it - because Seers exist!
Koni dragged Hadrian's hand, "C'mon! It'll be fun."
Hadrian and Koni entered the tent to find an old woman with a slight bit of chin hair bobbing her head slowly as she rubbed her crystal ball.
"Welcome...", she croaked out, before gesturing for them to sit in the chairs in front of her.
"Hi!", Koni beamed.
"...Erm, Hello.", Hadrian said as they sat down.
They sat there for a minute before the lady coughed and glanced at the money box beside her.
Hadrian looked at the sign plastered on it and read it aloud, "...If you want your fortune read...pay 15 galleons!"
Hadrian glared at the woman, and said, "If I find out you're a fake, I'm casting a fire-making charm on this tent."
He then begrudgingly dropped 15 galleons into the box, to which the woman responded by smiling widely - displaying all her teeth, which happened to be about 4 of them.
She rubbed the crystal ball for a while and said, "You will experience success in your life! Great success!", She then looked at Koni and shouted, "You!... You will not experience success!"
Hadrian and Koni waited for a while until it became clear that she was finished with her 'fortune-telling'.
"What a waste of 15 galleons!", Koni declared as she and Hadrian stood up.
The old woman then stood up as they were walking away and latched onto Hadrian's wrist. The woman's eyes rolled to the top of her head and her voice became deep and hoarse.
"I have chosen you, My Scion. He knows and will one day return. He will awake; the one he chose - the culprit. He will take back what was his...and so much more. More! More! More! More!...", she began chanting.
Hadrian's eyes began shifting between gold and green, as if something was trying to take him over, just like when he assimilated with the artifacts.
Koni looked at Hadrian and the woman in shock and fear. The woman was still chanting and Hadrian's eyes were pulsing golden - which thoroughly freaked Koni out.
"Hadrian!", she said as she slapped his arm. When that didn't work, she grabbed the granny's wrist and threw it off of Hadrian's arm.
Hadrian's eyes quickly reverted to their customary light green color. He looked a little dazed as if he was trying to find out where he was.
"W-what happened...?", Hadrian asked as he looked around.
"I don't kno- Ah!", Koni was interrupted by loud explosions coming from outside of the tent.
Hadrian grabbed Koni's hand and launched out of the tent. They looked around and saw that the attractions in the Wizarding Area, specifically the Circus, which had floods of people running out - were on fire.
Spells were flying around, and people wearing leopard skin shawls and briefs were laughing maniacally.
"We've got to go!", Hadrian shouted, nudging Koni to wake her from the frozen state she was in.
Koni nodded absentmindedly. As they were about to take off, they heard a loud snarling noise coming from the Circus Tent.
They swiveled their heads and saw a leopard-like creature with spikes protruding from its face. It wasn't very big, but it certainly looked menacing. It didn't look like it was in its matured state, but not quite a cub either.
Hadrian glanced at Koni who's face was the picture-perfect representation of fear. "N-nundu.", she stuttered out, "I don't want to die...!", she cried out, which alerted the medium-sized beast.
The Nundu stalked towards Hadrian and Koni at a brisk pace, which caused Koni to freeze up and grab Hadrian, hugging him tightly.
The Nundu prowled towards Hadrian and Koni, and was about to reach them too!
Until...
I tried to research the different wizarding currencies, but couldn't find anything. This leads me to believe that Galleons, Sickles, and Knuts are the international wizarding currency because JK hasn't said otherwise, even though she went to great lengths to describe the conversion rate between wizarding currency and muggle currency.
