Capítulo 5: Unstoppable(1)

Taking in a deep breath, Chege opened his eyes. The smell of the food being brought to him was extremely inviting, and he just wanted to leap at it. Usually, he had some pretty ordinary meals, which were cooked mostly for their nutrients than their taste, or fragrance. To be brought such a delicious-looking dish, this was out of character.

Eyeing the corporal that had brought the food, Chege held back this time. Sometimes, when he was in the mood, he would sneak attack the guys feeding him. Though it sometimes led to him missing out on some meals, he was having quite some bit of fun, plus, he didn't need to eat every time food was brought to him.

In the jungle, he was used to going for more than a day without a decent meal, and since he was in survival mode. This act made the doctors question his intelligence. Usually, a beast would not bite the hand that feeds it, unless it was dumb. It never occurred to them that Chege was anything more than beast.

It was daybreak, so it was breakfast. Some pretty tantalizing bacon, bread, eggs, and juice. A classic English breakfast. No drugs could be fed to him, so he got a pass on any hot beverages, but the juice was freshly made.

Once the food was delivered into his cage, Chege didn't wait for an invitation. A very excited Chege didn't know what hit him, for as soon as he was done, he collapsed. Damn fools even poison such good food, the last thought before he blacked out.

Doctor Mark was in a chipper mood. This was the moment he had been waiting for. He had his reserves about Dr. Keshi of course, once an obstacle always an obstacle. However, she was behaving rather nicely, apart from insisting on procedures and protocol. Ah, habits never die.

"Doctor, you're in an upbeat mood!" One of his cronies said.

"What can I say, no time like the present." The man's excitement was evident. Even then, they all fell silent watching the massive cot was wheeled in the procedure room.

"Ah! Ah! Ah!"

"Procedure?"

"Of course." Mark's attitude of Keshi didn't sink at all, without sticklers like these, how could things go according to plan? He had also come to realize that she was doing all this for his project, not against it.

There was also the politics at play. She was the one with authority, and even though removing her was not that hard to achieve, it was still a pain, and he would lose the support of the neutral staff.

While he had the absolute support of his cronies, which made up the majority of the senior staff, this was still a military installation. This meant that everyone, even the doctor himself were soldiers. A soldier's instinct was to obey rank, and she had it. Since she was willing to play along, he didn't see any point in making an enemy out of her.

In her heart, Dr. Keshi was not in favor of this experiment. She felt that it was being rushed at best. If it was some obscure scientist, for this kind of research to gain approval, he would have had to jump many more hoops. By using his influence, Doctor Mark was able to skirt several laws to get his way, why wouldn't that tick her off.

She also knew that her reasons were not so righteous. She had done a thorough analysis of the giant. One thing she had found out was that it seemed to be almost sentient. Could it be that it was self-aware, intelligent enough to have more than just a superficial personality, but real emotions?

She had collected and gone through every footage there was of the giant, and one thing she could say with absolute certainty was that the giant was powerful. This was an understatement. While she was enthralled by the intelligence behind those eyes, she also came to understand that the power it commanded was beyond measure.

What was confusing was that, since the encounter, there had never been a single fatality. Given his approach and his fight with the creatures, and his subsequent attempt to escape, Keshi saw how powerful Chege was. Yet for all that time, he never hurt anyone. The most he did was scare them away.

In contrast, It was as though he was intentionally avoiding his captors, doing his best to keep them safe despite their bloodlust. Even at the gate, when he was apprehended, Chege had given himself up, hands raised. Taking them down would have been easy.

She wondered why no one had caught that. What she didn't know was that there were many with the same question, but the loud voices of the military and doctor Mark were enough to keep the questions unasked, until after the procedure. Although, by this time, Keshi feared that the giant would be dead, or a vegetable, rendering such questions mute.

As the nurses stripped the giant away, many of the scientists watching got a first-hand look at the giant's body. Tan brown, elegant, Chege looked as though he had been chiseled rather than born. His body was huge. Not abnormally huge, but proportional, perfectly proportional to his massive height.

However, that was not his most aesthetic feature. The giant was so beautifully built that each muscle seemed to stand on its own, separate and awesome. The most awe-inspiring thing about him was that he seemed more than just flesh and bone. Keshi couldn't quite place a finger on it, but she could feel something else coming from him.

Keshi wanted to just grab those arms and fondle them, feel them close. She'd seen all this before, but every time she couldn't help being turned on by the feature.

As the doctors went about their work, connecting tubes and other measuring equipment into Chege's body, Doctor Mark licked his lips gluttonously. Let the games begin.

This was going to be the first part of the procedure. They needed to inject the Marktilion Solution directly into the giant's temple. The name showed just how shameless its creator was.

The metal brace was attached right above the forehead. It needed to be held just right as it would have to go through the eye to the brain. They had tried before and confirmed that the giant's bones were hard as steel, especially the skull. The only way they were getting to the brain was through the eye.

The long syringe was attached and its payload delivered. When the 4ccs of the solution was injected, the syringe was pulled out, with minimal damage to the cornea of the eye. That was good, but they were still going to patch it up for a few hours. That was when it happened.

Two eyes opened. Their previously brown color turned blood red, and not just the iris, but the entire eye. Coincidentally, Doctor Hanni was responsible for patching the eye, junior work for juniors. When the man came with his bandaids, he was temporarily shocked by what he was seeing, until he saw those massive eyes turn to him.

Terror, blood-curdling terror engulfed him. He was unable to move despite being free of the shock. The aura that bathed him made his back soak with sweat.

"Hey kid, what are you doing?" The curt lady asked out loud noticing Hanni's movement, or lack of it called out to him. She followed his gaze only to see what he was looking at. The eyes turned to her, soliciting the same reaction.

Pretty soon, everyone was drenched in sweat. They felt like they had locked themselves in a room with an enraged tiger, every minute felt like an eternity. Having knocked him out several times, they knew how effective the dosage they had given was.

Once given, he was supposed to be out for 8 hours, and he had been knocked out 30 minutes ago. Which idiot would think to shackle a sleeping giant? Without having thought of the possibility of him waking up, they never thought he would rise so soon. 8 hours had already been overkill, shackles were just going too far. In hindsight, perhaps they should have gone too far.

Having watched the humans for a long time, Chege knew how to navigate his way out of the building. Previously, the doctors had put a hospital gown. Other than that, nothing was stopping him.

Like an automaton, the giant rose. He got off the bed and walked out of the room. There had been a door when he left. Without a sense of direction, he simply wandered off aimlessly. He didn't seem to be conscious, really just a robot that had misfired.

Of course, a 7-foot humanoid wandering around the base was bound to catch a lot of notice. Soon, burly men came at him with intent to put him down. They too knew the kind of power the giant commanded, but they were confident they could put it down nonetheless.

With their metal shields raised, they charged at the giant like knights of old, weigh of destiny weighing down their hearts. Poor sods, upon impact, it felt like smashing against concrete wall.

Unstoppable!

The guards stumbled back, stunned. They were not the only ones shocked. Every person watching, including the doctors who had come out of their shock and the management, had substantial intelligence on the giant. Every intelligence they had collected on the giant showed that it was strong, but not this strong.

When the shield warriors were unable to stop him, the fighters rushed in, each wielding a weapon. All this time, they never had any killing intent. They wanted to put him down, yes, but the orders were clear, NO LETHAL MEANS.

The weapons in their hands were mostly clubs, tasers, dart guns, and cattle prod, in case things get dicey.

The first strike was with a taser gun, it was a far off, and it was meant to stun and maybe put down the big guy. Chege felt it. His red eyes opened, and then suddenly, he was enveloped by a bright golden light. He looked like a god.

Instantly, the taser gun was incinerated. The guard quickly let go, otherwise, he'd have suffered burns too. Darts were fired at him, but nothing penetrated his golden shield. He continued walking though, oblivious of the attacks that were raining on him.

He still looked like an automaton, as if there was no one home, just somebody aimlessly wandering around. This only made his victory even more renown, imagine if the lights were on, how deadly would he be.

Inevitably, Chege managed to find a way out of the building he was being held. It was just the RnD Building, so it was not so large. Most of the available space was occupied with equipment or under lock and key. Though the pathways were like a maze, lady luck was smiling on him.

A drone mech suit (Mechanical Suit) came at him and swung a massive fist at the giant, but all that happened was the mech suit's arm bursting into flames, unable to penetrate the Golden Barrier.

'Had he always been this strong?' Such questions were running in each and everyone present. Could it be that the sheep had invited a wolf for lunch unknowingly?

"He-he's n-not fighting back." Unbelievingly, Doctor Hanni stuttered.

"He's not!" Shouted Dr. Keshi.

"So what?"

"Kill it!"

"We can't have such a threat roaming around!"

"Sir, this thing has to be put down this instance!" The colonel shouted to Sir Anyang, he looked like a school deputy principal yelling at a student, they are always more dramatic.

"We cannot kill it, sir!" Surprisingly, it was Dr. Mark who stood to defend the giant. "This is a valuable resource and should be knocked out for further examination!" No way he was going to let this treasure trove he had been waiting for get destroyed on his watch.

"And how do you suggest we do that?" The colonel.

"Isn't that your job, figure it out. You don't see me asking you the difference between a differential and an integral, do you?" The not so subtle insult slighted the colonel even more.

"There's plenty more out there."

"And how many have you captured?"

"You think it is that easy?"

"What is your value if you only capable of easy things?"

"ENOUGH!"

Sir Anyang was undecided, but watching his senior officers fighting wasn't helping the situation.

"Sir, if we don't act, it'll leave and we'll be powerless to do anything." Even Dr. Mark saw the gravity of the situation, but he was running out of time.

"Kill it."
