Capítulo 58: Accident
After seeing the message, Ray opened his status screen. The display confirmed what he had suspected—his mana pool had increased. Where it once showed 0/0, it now displayed 1/1.
The old man had been right—mana and Ki were essentially the same. At least, that's how the system seemed to interpret it.
Ray turned his attention back to the old man, who was still lying face-down on the floor. He gently rolled him onto his back, then leaned in to listen for a heartbeat. After that, he checked his breathing.
Thankfully, the old man was still alive. His chest rose and fell steadily.
Ray exhaled in relief. The old man had been teaching him—he would have hated to accidentally kill him in the process. Not to mention, he was an elder of the academy. If word got out that Ray was involved in his collapse, no one would believe him. The entire kingdom would be after his blood.
As he waited for the old man to wake up, he replayed the incident in his mind. What had triggered the skill?
The old man had touched him before without anything happening. But the moment he transferred his Ki, the system intervened and activated something. That was when the notification appeared.
Was the system trying to help?
The thought unsettled him. If the system had a will of its own, that meant it wasn't fully under his control.
He glanced back at the old man. The pained expression had disappeared from his face, replaced by a relaxed, almost peaceful snore.
Ray watched him for a few minutes, expecting him to wake up soon. But as time passed, it became clear that wouldn't happen anytime soon.
He didn't want to waste time just sitting there. At the same time, he didn't feel comfortable waking the old man up. It felt like he had taken something from him, so letting him rest was the least he could do.
Ray decided to practice Ki flow on his own.
He sat cross-legged on the floor and activated Dragon Eyes. Immediately, he could see the faint glow of energy moving inside his body.
Closing his eyes, he focused. He tried to sense the energy, gathering it toward his center. Slowly, small, glowing green particles began to form around his body, converging at his stomach until they became a pea-sized ball.
This must be the Ki flow the old man had mentioned.
Ray attempted to move the energy, guiding it to different parts of his body as the old man had done. But the moment his focus slipped, the flow dissipated.
He tried again.
And again.
Each time, the moment he lost concentration, the energy scattered.
It took several attempts before he finally succeeded in moving the Ki freely. He quickly realized that the smaller the Ki flow, the easier it was to control. At first, he could only manage the size of a pea. After more practice, he expanded it to the size of a fist.
However, he was unable to use the Ki flow to activate his cells the way the old man had. Without instruction, there was no way for him to figure it out on his own.
Instead, he decided to test his limits.
He focused on expanding the Ki flow inside him. The pea-sized energy grew to a fist, then a small football.
As it expanded, his body began to shake. His muscles twitched, his organs burned, and sweat dripped down his face.
The energy inside him felt unstable, as if it wanted to break apart.
A dull pain spread through his body, but it was still bearable.
Then, a notification appeared.
Ding!
<Internal force fully reached.>
<Would you like to increase your internal force?>
<Yes> <No>
Ray's eyes flickered with uncertainty.
Was the internal force referring to the Ki he had gathered?
The system had never harmed him before. In every situation, it had only helped. That was enough for him to trust it.
He selected Yes.
Suddenly, an external force began to surge into his body.
The football-sized Ki flow expanded slightly.
This time, the dull pain intensified. His muscles felt like they were being torn apart, and his body trembled violently.
More sweat poured down his face. He wanted to stop the Ki flow, but he didn't know how.
If it didn't leave his body, it felt like it would explode.
Just as panic began to set in, a shout filled the room.
"What are you doing!" the old man roared.
Ray barely had time to react before the old man rushed over, placing a hand on his back.
The sensation changed immediately.
It felt like the Ki flow was being drained from him. The pressure on his body rapidly decreased, the suffocating energy dissipating.
The old man gritted his teeth, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. His hand suddenly jerked away from Ray's back.
Ray didn't know what the old man had done, but the next second—
A loud explosion echoed through the martial arts hall.
It was deafening—as if someone had fired a cannon inside the building.
Ray turned his head toward the source of the noise.
The old man was standing with his fist extended, panting heavily.
Steam rose from his entire body.
Ray followed his line of sight and felt his heart drop.
A circular hole had been blasted through the wall of the building—completely exposing the street outside.
The damage was massive.
"You stupid boy! You could have gotten yourself killed!" the old man bellowed.
Before Ray could respond, his vision blurred. The world around him spun, and then—
Everything faded into blackness.
