Capítulo 8: Chapter 7 - Twins
Aito who was in front of Ernie and Yui held up his hand signaling them to stop. His face tilted upward a bit.
"Yui, you smell that?"
Yui nodded her head.
"Yes, smells like death."
Aito agreed.
Ernie said nothing, he didn't smell anything. Maybe it was due to them having lived in this world longer and had more experience that they could pick up on this specific smell.
"Let's hurry!"
Aito suggested as he moved. Ernie and Yui followed closely behind him.
It wasn't long before the trio made it to the village they were supposed to go to. What greeted them were not villagers, instead corpse. The village was filled with dead bodies, some burt, some cut in half.
Not one person was left alive.
Their stone houses had holes in them, while some were just directly destroyed.
"The medicine!"
Aito was the first one to react as he ignored all the corpses and began searching what he could.
Ernie joined in and started looking around as well.
The three of them spent forty minutes looking under, above and even checked the corpses. Not one medical herb could be found.
This place was stripped clean.
Aito clicked his tongue and shook his head.
Yui sighed.
Both of them knew that the herbs was lost, and they would never be found again. The only thing left for them to do was to head home and report it to their clan.
Ernie took the time to gaze at all the corpses and shook his head.
'All this, just for some herbs? I don't see why they needed to be killed.'
'Wait, what's this?'
Ernie kneeled down as he examined the ground. It was hard to see at first glance, but there were markings here.
Living alone in a cave and hunting animals he knew that these were tracks left behind by whoever did this. The direction they were pointing in was heading north.
Ernie did not inform the others, instead he ran north.
"Where is he going?"
Aito asked as he saw Ernie dash away.
"Should we follow him?"
Yui wanted to know, since their mission was a failure, there was no real need to follow after him.
Aito nodded his head.
"No, but I have a feeling we should stick close by."
Yui already knew that Aito's feelings were never wrong. It's how he survived this long, based on that feeling.
If they were at a fork on the road, and everyone said go left but Aito said go right, she wouldn't hesitate to go right.
Ernie traveled for twenty maybe thirty minutes, before he could finally hear the faint sounds of weapons clanging against each other.
Why were they fighting? He did not know, maybe something else was going on here.
He hurried along.
"You cannot outrun us, give up the location of the medicene and we'll let you go."
"Hmph! If you kill us, you will never know the location. Let us go, and we'll tell you the location after we're out of your grasp."
"Ha! You're mistaken, we only need one of you alive, not both! You think we won't hesitate to kill you right now and torture the other one?"
Ernie was still a bit of distance away, but he could already hear multiple voices talking.
Looking closer, he saw a group of six men surrounding two silver haired girls. The two girls looked exactly the same, as if they were twins. The only difference was one had short hair while the other had long hair.
He'd need to get closer before he could see anything else. However, from what he's heard so far, it seems that these two girls know the location of the medicine.
'It must be the same thing we were looking for. So, those two girls managed to flee but were soon caught. I guess the medical herbs weren't in the village, but hidden elsewhere. The only thing is, they said medicine, not medical herbs…'
Ernie did not make a move, he just continued to observe the group. When they started to fight, he was surprised that the two girls managed to hold their own. They were outnumbered, but that didn't seem to mean anything to them.
If the two groups seriously clashed, Ernie was sure that these two girls would take at least two or three down with them.
A few seconds after he began watching the two groups, he felt a drop of rain landed on his forehead.
Ernie looked up towards the sky and noticed the clouds.
'If I go in, I have a chance of saving them, but that doesn't mean they'll tell me where the medical herbs are or the medicine. Yet, if I don't help them then the likelihood of them dying is pretty high.'
"Argh! Skip it, save them for now, deal with the rest later."
Ernie quickly moved and as he did so, the rain began to pick up.
"Water clone jutsu."
A splitting image of Ernie appeared next to him.
Ernie reached into his pouch and threw a kunai towards the group. One man sensed danger and swiftly turned his body around as he deflected the kunai.
"Where did he come from?"
While he was confused, the man also responded back to Ernie's attack with his own. Throwing two kunai towards Ernie.
The kunai missed, but a second later they exploded.
The man killed Ernie.
"What did he think he was doing."
"Trapping you obviously!"
"Ice Release: Rising Spike!"
An ice spike shot up from the ground as it pierced through the man's body. He was not able to react in time.
The other men noticed this but they were also busy fighting the two girls. Ernie might look young, but he was already skilled.
"Retreat!"
One man spoke up as all their bodies flickered away. A second later, black smoke covered the area, concealing the direction they went.
