I saw several comments in the previous chapter complaining about Jake's blunder that almost killed him. They range from "this will teach him a lesson!" to "he's completely useless, he should ditch all his useless friends and go solo".
I even saw some complaining about his weakness against the Corruption. Let's clarify some things: Corruption cannot be resisted, that is the very lesson this Ordeal is trying to teach them. Even a Saint will sooner or later go crazy if he stays in this station.
Two reasonable arguments I saw were: If he was more careful and didn't keep his Fluid instead of spending it, he could have made it through. Maybe, maybe not. It's not that easy to trick Jake. Just before, you saw him detect Daryl's illusion who is a Fluid Master. That gives you an idea of the level it takes to create a barrier so perfect that Jake was unable to tell the difference. Another important, but crucial aspect: The barrier did not break. Imagine the toughness of this thing to stop a 12 tons human launched at more than 2000km/h.
For the Fluid, you are right, but it is a risk that Jake would have taken anyway with his current knowledge. More Fluid means more rewards and more options for spending it later. Jake has been literally undefeated for the entire Ordeal just now. He has never really been put at risk. On the other hand, just because he has this Fluid doesn't mean he can snap his fingers and become a Fluid Grand Master. It will take some time and it has almost no impact on his Spirit Body in the short term. If you recall the chapters where Jake upgrades his Fluid Core to Adept level, it is explained that his progression is fast because his Spirit Body is already at the level of a Fluid Master. For Fluid Wielders, this is a process that takes decades and the limitation to this progression is precisely their spirit, which takes time to grow.
