After all, their spaceships would be vulnerable to attacks once they started entering the planet's atmosphere.

The Mt. Ravencroft has Super Mesospheric Altitude Gun that could hit the Spaceships in outer space. So once they tried descending on their land, it would be the first one to welcome them… They wouldn't be able to avoid that in their situation. 

The gun that they have is also called a Sattelite-Class Cannon to identify the level of the weapon they have.
