Capítulo 47: Sirius Black
The next morning Art was up before everyone and snuck down to the basement. He was welcomed by his old friends like Dougal and Nikki who rubbed against him.
"Dougal, Newt said there is someone new. Care introduce me to them?" Art said, giving him a treat.
Dougal took it and ate it quickly before grabbing Art's hand and pulled him to the lake. Art saw the Kelpie and another creature with half a horse body and half fish.
"A Hippocampus!" Art exclaimed.
The Hippocampus slowly approached Art and looked at him cautiously. Art sent calming emotions toward the Hippocampus, making it trust him. He noticed the beasts tail fin was injured, mangled was a better description though.
"What happened there fella?" Art said quietly, gently inspecting the tail fin.
It let out a small whinny and nudged Art with its head, looking for attention. Art gently rubbed its head and gave it some treats. The Hippocampus ate them quickly and splashed Art with water.
Art laughed and said, "Sorry I have no more."
"I see you met Kenny."
Art turned and saw Newt in give nightgown, still rubbing the sleepiness out of his eyes.
"I should have known you would be down here early." he paused to yawn before continuing. "Though I didn't think it would be this early. He was injured by a muggle boat and I was called to take care of his until he is healed."
Newt walked down to his large workbench and grabbed a few ingredients. "This is my own potion, it takes in consideration of the Hippocampus' body and speeds up the healing process. Now watch me." Newt said as he started crushing and mixing the ingredients together. He threw them into a cauldron and placed them over a fire.
"Two stirs counter clockwise and 3 clockwise." Newt said, finishing the potion. He then carefully let Kenny drink the potion.
"It will take a few weeks before he is fully healed and we will release him back into the wild."
Art didn't say anything and gentle rubbed its head. The Hippocampus was a truly beautiful creature whose scales shimmered with different colours as the light hit them. Newt pulled Art along to show him something. Along the way Newt asked about Azura and inspected her. Satisfied with what he saw, told him that he was doing a good job.
Entering the snow climate, Newt carefully guided Art to a small cave. Inside the cave was black cloak that was surrounded by a clear sphere of magic. Newt's expression turned serious as he took out his wand.
"Lethifold or Living Shroud. Dark creature that consumes humans. It is my and many other theory that they are somehow related to the Dementors." Newt explained, keeping his distance from the creature. "Dumbledore found it last year and captured it so it couldn't do anymore harm. He gave it to me to study but the beast is fickle and is overly aggressive. Kills anyone that comes close. But what is interesting is that the Lethifold is immune to all spells except the Patronus, like the Demetor."
Art focused on the Lethifold, trying to read its emotions but all he felt was despair and loneliness. Art gently sent a positive emotion towards it but the emotition seemed to disappear when it came close to the beasts. The Lethifold had a reaction though, it perked up and seemed to stare at Art before violently ramming the magic bubble.
"Its aggressive to positive emotions…" Art frowned.
"This is a dark creature Art. Beast Speech will not allow us to tame or even communicate with it. Its sole purpose is to kill." Newt said darkly.
"That can't be right Mr. Scamander. It kills for sustenance. It is all it has ever known. If we could catch a younger one then maybe we could change it." Art said, arguing with Newt.
"Maybe you are right Art but Lethifold is extremely rare. Finding them, let alone a young one." Newt said, ruffling Art's hair. "Now come on. Let's feed everyone."
The rest of the week passed in the same fashion. Art fed the animals and looked after them with Newt watching over him, teaching him things here and there. Finally the week was up and it was time to release Kenny back into the wild.
Watching the large Hippocampus vanish into Newt's suitcase, Art's eyes went wide and looked at Newt. "Where can I get one of those?" he asked with wide eyes.
"One of a kind I'm afraid." Newt said with a smirk, patting the suitcase.
Art gave Newt a glare before focusing on the suitcase. "Extension Charm right? But how did you make it contain living creatures?" he asked, his curiosity taking over.
"Atmospheric Charm. Come on we have to go." Newt said, walking up stairs. Tina was busy cooking when they entered the kitchen and made their way to the door.
"Don't be late for supper." Tina said, not looking up from the food.
"Of course dear."
The two of them left, Apparating somewhere on the coast of England, large rock cliffs could be seen as Art looked up from the beach.
"Now they prefer warmer water but I haven't got a license to travel to any warmer countries at the moment so we are stuck here." Newt took out his case and knocked on it. The suitcase started to shake before the latches sprang open and Kenny jumped out into the water. He splashed around happily causing Art and Newt to laugh.
"Goodbye Kenny." Newt said grabbing Art's hand and Disapparating.
The Hippocampus looked around before a sad look came over his face. He soon dove into the water, not resurfacing.
A month came and went quickly after that. Art and Newt took care of the beasts with Newt even showing him some magic and assisting with his training. Newt didn't teach Art powerful offensive spells but instead simple spells that had unlimited uses.
"You shouldn't focus only on high level powerful offensive spells but simple day to day spells." Newt said, putting his wand away.
Art agreed with him gave him a thankful smile. Tina walked down and took a seat before looking at the two of them.
"Well another summer is over and this is all you two have to say to each other?"
Art and Newt looked at each other before laughing, causing Tina to roll her eyes.
"As always, thank you for everything Mr. and Mrs. Scamander." Art said, giving Tina a hug and shaking Newt's hand.
"I sold the Basilisk. As you requested, I saved some hide and made three sets of inner armour for you. They have been sent to your house. Cedric and Harry both refused the gold and said you did all of the work. The total amount of Galleons is just under 600,000…" Newt tailed off after saying the ridiculous amount. He was shocked when he first heard the offer from the shady merchant.
"Those stubborn jerks." Art frowned. He knew that Cedric and Harry were well off from their families but they could have accepted the money. He thought of giving it to the twins but he knew that they would refuse him flatly plus they were in Egypt at the moment on holidays.
"There is something else Art." Newt hesitated, holding a copy of the Daily Prophet. He handed it to Art and watched him carefully. Art read the front cover of the paper and his expression sunk.
"A Death Eater escaped?" Art said slowly, looking at the man on the front cover.
ESCAPE FROM AZKABAN- SIRIUS BLACK
"Sirius Black…" Art said slowly before giving the paper back to Newt. He gave him a small smile and said, "Thank you but I think I will let the Ministry deal with this."
Newt and Tina watched him carefully, knowing from Dumbledore that Art was on the road of revenge. Tina let out a sigh and ruffled his hair. "Be careful Art."
Art thanked her and walked outside before grabbing an old boot and disappearing.
