Capítulo 3: Chapter 2

Not once did Reiji's father cry that day. After the invaders were gone Reiji and his father sat down next to a short wall that used to be house and Reiji cried as he rested his head on his father's lap. The sun was setting and the sky was painted red.

"It is okay to cry but do not forget to wipe your tears and to always remember that what does not kill you only makes you stronger. This world is a cruel place and only the strong stand on top.Take what happened here to heart and not to your head. Keep your chin up, my son."

After hearing his father's words he felt nothing but hate towards monsters. Then it hit him that while he cried for his mother, he had completely forgotten about the one thing that his parents always told him to do. To always protect Aya.

"Father, have you seen Aya?"

He quietly shook his head. I quickly took a look at my bracelet. It was glowing green. Green means that Aya felt like she was in danger. Reiji quickly wiped the tears from his eyes and vowed to himself to do whatever it took to find Aya. Reiji and his father had spent the entire day searching for Aya to no avail and now had to put a pause on it since other matters had to be dealt with first.

The following day, many mage guilds, news reporters and surveillance drones from all over the country came to witness the carnage but no one in the village gave them any form of attention and Reiji very well knew what everyone was thinking: 'Where were they when the monsters came and destroyed our homes and killed our women and children. Where were they since we paid most of our wages for their protection?' It was an understandable reaction and Reiji himself felt the same way but he also came to a realization: if you want something done, you have to do it yourself. His mother understood that and died trying to help and protect her own and getting stronger was the only way to survive. Reiji knew his mother will very well not appreciate this line of thinking but he could not help it as the idea floated through his mind: 'since there is magic in the world that can heal fatal wounds like the one I had, then there must magic out there that can bring mother back to us. I will deal with mother's scolding once she comes back to us.' A slight grin covered his face as he thought. 'It may seem impossible but it is only seen as impossible until one actually does it. I will take back what was stolen from me and bring my family back again.' Right there and then, Reiji made it his life purpose and the only way to do so was if he would get strong.

A few days later and the mages were still coming to our village to investigate and father would usually round them up at our destroyed shop and tell them what he knew and send them off in order to prevent commotion within the village and help those who were mourning from being bombarded with unnecessary questions. The village was in a state of grief and the media was not being considerate of the victims feelings. Some of the villagers resented mages and wanted nothing but to get revenge but they were powerless and in this world, only those who are strong can be heard and respected. Everyone helped our each other bury their loved ones then when our turn came, we buried mother on the west side of the Blackbay on a small hill that had electric blue flowers around. Reiji's mother loved those flowers. They were the same color as her eyes. Seeing them made Reiji miss her a lot more and his heart hurt each time he remembered that she was gone. Reiji and his father stood in front of her grave as the sun was about to set and Reiji began to sing a song that she always sang as she smiled:

As light cannot exist without dark

And the moon needs the sun to shine

Let us to be good to everyone

Whether good or bad

For if one shows kindness

It shines a light to those in the dark.

Thank you for love in a world so dark

For it is what truly guides,

the lost souls in this abyss.

The sun still shines through the rain

That was the first and only time Reiji ever saw his father let down tears from his eyes but Reiji believed that he would see her again. He would not allow himself to cry about this issue because he thought would be saying goodbye to her. The thought of her being gone was like a stab wound in his the heart. Without her, they both felt alone. Through her hard work, she held her family together. Her love alone made this world a beautiful place.

"I love you Mother."

As he uttered those words, a cool breeze blew and some of the petals rose up with the wind and the swirled in the sky. I placed the bouquet of flowers on her grave which began to faintly glow as the sun hid behind the horizon.

That night the two sat in front of the small fire place in the rebuilt cottage. The cottage no longer looked the same as it once did and most of the furniture was damage so the house was empty and colder than usual. His father turn to him with beet red eyes and send in a calm yet commanding voice:

-"Starting from today, your mission is to find Aya. Do whatever it takes to find her. You will come to the mine with me from now on in order to build your physical strength and earn money while you are at it. The mine is not officially owned by anyone but the village so feel free to also gather some materials to make a weapon. Fighting monsters without one would not be a unwise choice with your type of magic but your magic has its own potential that only you can discover and awaken. Most mages out there do not use weapons because they find no need to get up close and personal when they can just blast you from afar."

-"Yes sir. Once I have gathered all the materials, I will set out and do as best I can to bring our family back together."

"Good, a few kilometers south from here are the Frost Mountains. That place is surging with magic and the harsh conditions are good physical training and magic training. Every night, we will run there and train. We will return by dawn in time for work in the mines."

-"But father…" as Reiji was about to protest about getting no sleep, his father continued.

-"The world is a vast place and there are a lot of strong people. With your current strength, you have a long way to go before you are even considered strong. Your mother taught you a great deal about magic and its physics, you could even be referred to as a genius but in order to be truly strong, you need to train your body, magic and mind. Once you are strong enough, you can go a few days without sleep. Entering the mage academy is no simple feat and not just anyone can enter. Going to the academy will teach you a lot more things than what both your mother and I taught you. And being around strong people will push you to becoming stronger."

-"Yes sir."

-"Now go to sleep, you will need it."

This chapter was made to purely to show readers how catastrophic the loss of Reiji's Mother was to the family as a whole. With Reiji's journey beginning, even i do not know how it will go. Though there will be a lot of carefully thought out fight scenes, politics, drama, heart break and last but not least, a blur between good and evil
