Capítulo 14: The beauty, the prince and the chaperone
After the train stops at the Bondi junction, we got off it. We heard the clunking and screeching of the train. The engine kicked into motion once again, pushing the sleek, modern train down the track and off it goes. Even after the train had left, the sound of the pulsing locomotive pounded through the beautiful day, until the deep booms of its powerful thrusts quietened down to gentle beats in the distance.
I look around, then my eyes met with the most handsome face I've seen so far! He was smiling from ear to ear when he saw that I look up and saw him.
"Hi Ash! How are you?" I said as we got near him.
"Hello Wynter, Skye, how is your trip?" he greeted both of us.
"Good, it's quite a short trip. I thought we'll be in the train for longer." I answered.
Skye also greeted Ash back but not as enthusiastic as before. She is actually a bit aloof towards him.
"It's a good distance from the city and close to everything at the same time so it's sort of convenient for us." he said.
Then he said that we should go to the parking lot as he took his vehicle to pick us up.
"Its not very far to walk but I thought you got your suitcases, so I brought the Ford." he explained.
He led us around and down to the parking lot and he pointed to his Ford. It's a big, black, dual cab, four wheeled drive that looks like a small truck. He put our suitcases up behind the truck bed and opened the door for Skye at the back. When she's in, he opened the door in the front, waited for me to get in, then shut it.
He went around and jump in the drivers seat.
"Are you comfortable?" He asked me.
Before I can say anything, I heard Skye answer.
"I'm good in the back, if anybody wants to know." she said.
Ash and I look at each other, then we burst out laughing. He was very comfortable with Skye and me.
"What's so funny?" Skye asked confused.
Ash and I look at each other and laughed again. I don't know what it is, but we do click.
"So that's how it is, keep me out of the loop, then." she said sulking.
"I didn't know you're very sensitive Skye!" Ash joked.
"Sensitive my arse! You're very lucky you pick us up from here or I'll show you who is sensitive!" was her retort.
She is a bit touchy today. I wonder why.. Ash just shook his head, smile still pasted on his face. He put the key in the ignition, turn it, and start up the engine. The engine made a slight growl, then he put the gear stick on reverse and the vehicle started to move.
We were out of the parking lot in a minute and took off then merge in to traffic.
It wasn't very long when we were pulling into a huge driveway. The house in front of us is a big one, the kind in which a kid might dream of growing up in. Standing amongst well manicured tall hedges in one of the most exclusive streets of Bondi, its got a big terrace and a large gazebo in the middle of the court yard.
Before I can open the door, Ash is already at my side, opening it and helped me jump down. I thanked him, then noticed that he also opened the back door for Skye, as she intentionally didn't move a muscle in the back, waiting for his generous chivalry. She said her manners, which is a small blessing. She's a character, our Skye.
I looked at my surroundings and I feel overwhelmed with the beauty of this house. Knowing full well that I will call this home for the next three months.
Ash went in the back of the truck, opened the canopy and pulled out our suitcases one at a time.
Before he can put down the last suitcase, the door of the house opened and a lady with the same distinguishing features to Sally appeared with a welcoming friendly smile.
"Skye! Look at you! You've grown taller!" she exclaimed and raised her arms for a hug.
"Aunty! How are you? This is Wynter Lane, my childhood best friend" Skye went over to embrace her Aunt and introduced me.
"Hello Aunty, it's finally good to meet you, Skye has been telling me about you." I extended my hand.
"All good things, I hope." She clasp my hand in a firm handshake.
Then her aunt noticed Ash standing next to the truck with the suitcases.
"Ash! What a pleasant surprise! I haven't seen you for a while. Where have you been? What have you been doing, boy! You picked up the girls at the terminal? How did you meet?" she was shooting all the questions in one breathe.
