Capítulo 109: Disappointed That You Were Only This Much

"Who are you supposed to be? Wait...How old are you?" Finley's eyes pointed straight up into the air as he spoke down to Aker who had jumped onto the fighting stage.

Finley who had just joined C Company from the King Killers looked down on everyone who wasn't part of the elite King Killer squad. It was well known by everyone that only the geniuses of geniuses could get selected to be a fighter with the King Killers.

The entire A Company made up the King Killers which was personally headed by the Division Commander. When the Division Commander was first assigned to defend this planet, he was upset and ticked off. As far as he was concerned, he should have been the Commanding General responsible for the entire war for the Underground Empire. Being relegated to a mere Division Commander was an affront and insult to his background and capabilities.

The Division Commanders very first move upon taking command of this planet was to appoint himself commander of A Company and begin snatching up all of the best soldiers from the entire Division, then move them under the banner of his newly created King Killers squad.

It would be his Division and the Company he was leading that would eventually tear down the Fenlon Empire and he along with his Company would be the sword that ended the Kings life thus bringing victory and glory to the Underground Empire. This was his answer to not being selected as the Commanding General of the military, his only option was to personally lead the forces to victory, which he couldn't do if he didn't fill the role of Company Commander.

Initially the King Killers were not heralded or known and when they showed up to their first scrimmage, they were lauded for having such an imposing and fierce name despite never gaining any accomplishments. The jeers from the different divisions rained down even drowning out the war cries of the enemy.

It was only after the battles began that those who had been mocking the King Killers began to understand the folly of their ways. The King Killers who had been assigned a sweep and destroy mission by the Commanding General was devastatingly successful. The problem was, they were supposed to fail miserably as the Commanding General had a deep-seated hatred of the Division Commander in charge of the King Killers.

Chalking up the success of the King Killers in their first battle to luck and a little bit of over estimation of the enemy's capabilities, the Commanding General had the King Killers attack an entire planet alone. Only after they had attacked and secured an impregnable defense on the planet would reinforcements be allowed to support. This assignment was a clear suicide mission to everyone who heard about it and for those that had seen or heard about the success of the King Killers they were lamenting at the bad luck of that squad.

It was only several days later that those faces that had already condemned the King Killers to death heard that not only did they accomplish their mission, but they exceeded every conceivable goal in the process. The King Killers were able to take the entire planet single handedly driving the enemy forces off of the planet and into a desperate race of "turn your back and flee".

At this point the reputation of the King Killers was unstoppable, elite fighters from all over the Underground Empire became desperate to join this miracle fighting squad.

The King Killers were no longer only taking the best fighters from the single Division any longer but were now recruiting from Divisions all throughout the Underground Empire, this act was of course driving other Division and Company Commanders crazy. Every commander's success was predicated on the fighting force that they could command, for the genius and elite fighters throughout the empire to flock to a single Division....No, a single company was creating an imbalanced fighting force.

Already the Commanding General hated the Division Commander who had become the Commander of the King Killers, so after other Commanders came forward requesting the return of their fighters, he was more than happy to make a move.

After a short but intensive political battle in which neither side won it was concluded that the King Killers could maintain a fighting force of five hundred strong. Within this five hundred they could continue to recruit from all over the Underground Empire as long as the fighters were willing to go.

This news was of course well received by those elite genius fighters as they could continue to be with the famous and unstoppable King Killers squad, but it also had an unexpected side effect.

While it was unexpected it should have been easily predicted, as more elite genius came to the King Killers, more elite geniuses wanted to come to the King Killers. Due to the restriction of five hundred fighters this created intensive and at times overbearing competition to be a part of the squad.

For fighters such as Finley, to be a member of the King Killers already separated him and made him an elite genius among geniuses. There was no way that Finley wanted to leave the King Killers, the benefits and rewards for being a part of this squad far outweighed any other Company in the entire Underground Military. It wasn't just the tangible benefits as there was also the prestige of being a member of the King Killers that would drive others wild when they heard about it.

Finely would never leave the King Killer's if he wasn't being forced to. For Finley the writing was on the wall, his rank was clearly falling by the way side, each month his influence and ability within the King Killers was diminishing.

As new geniuses were brought into the fold, trained and ranked Finley's position was sliding. Everyone spoke about him being in the middle rank of the King Killers but truth be told he had long slipped from that position and was on the cusp of being booted from the squad whether he wanted to or not.

Since it was clear he wouldn't be able to maintain his position in the King Killers then why not leave while he still had some initiative to do so. Once he was booted out then he would forever be looked down upon, however, if he left on his own then he would be remembered as someone who left them. Because he was leaving of his own volition, he was also able to better work out a deal with perspective companies as well.

For C Company, being able to wrangle an ex-King Killer, a middle rank one at that was a huge boost to their credibility. They paid an enormous amount to be able to bring Finley into the company, but already it was paying dividends. Already a few of the other Companies were giving way and accepting C Companies new place as fourth in the pecking order.

Most fighters who leave the King Killers end up in B Company. This was primarily due to the close relationship between the Division Commander and the Company Commander of B Company. For those that didn't end up in B Company they would end up in J Company as the Company Commander there was the daughter of B Company.

For C Company to vulture a King Killer fighter, their reputation and fighting capabilities instantly moved from near the bottom only exceeding the Failed Fighter squad to becoming the fourth power within the Division, this was the strength and prestige that pulling in a King Killer fighter brought.

Finley who was used to talking down to the masses wouldn't even give another Company Commander face when talking to them, so how then could he not look down on a measly Aker who had so rudely and ignorantly jumped onto the fighting stage with him.

Wasn't Aker someone who didn't understand the immensity of heaven and earth? Wasn't he someone who didn't understand the difference between a monarch and an ant? While Finley wouldn't brag that he was one of the top fighters in the King Killers, he could brag that being part of the King Killers he was one of the top fighters in the Underground Empire. At least for the regular fighters just being a part of the King Killers was proof that his fighting skills were unapproachable by the masses.

"I'm here to represent D Company to regain what was taken from us. As far as my age is concerned, I've heard age is only a number, since that's the case shouldn't we just ignore it since its unnecessary to me representing D Company?" Aker who maintained his calm mood despite the aggressive questioning of Finley.

Basically, Aker's answer to Finley was "what does it matter, what does it have to do with our fight", it was a clear and blatant refutation of Finley.

Could someone of Finley's background and arrogance allow for some small nameless kid to blow him off like he was a leaf in the wind? The answer was a resounding no. Finely who had only been looking down at the pathetic peons who called themselves fighters and thought of them as nothing more than cannon fodder for the true fighters was not enraged by Aker's answer, he was instead disgusted.

The mere thought and idea that he was conversing with this lower lifeform brought a distaste to his mouth, it made him feel nauseous, 'how dare this disgusting excuse for a fighter stand in the same place as me and even talk and try and reason with me!'

As Finley was having this thought his disgust quickly turned to frustration and anger, his hand tightened around his saber and he dashed forward.

'Fine, you want to shame me with such an answer. You dare to step onto the same stage as me as if you were my equal, someone who could stand shoulder to shoulder with me. Since that's the case I won't hold back and will show all of these fighters, before sending someone out to challenge me they should consider the consequences. They should understand that it won't be a simple beating, but I'll instead leave them crippled!'

Finley's thoughts were simple. He would kill the chickens to scare the monkeys. After he was done destroying Aker all of those who had any ideas or inclinations of standing up and refuting him or C Company would cower down in fear and have to really question and weigh the consequences of that decision.

As Finley dashed forward the bystanders could barely make out his movements. The speed of a Body Conditioning Organs magic fighter was well beyond these lower level fighters.

One has to remember that most fighters hadn't even broken through the Skin level and as such Finley's movements were only a blur in their eyes.

Just as they were shaking their heads at the stupidity of the ignorant kid who jumped onto a stage he had no business being anywhere near the echo of a metal saber clashing with another metal caused everyone's eyes to blink in disbelief.

While they couldn't see exactly what happened there was no doubt that the sound that was permeating through the air was indicative of two metal objects colliding.

Suddenly as if by summoning, Finley's image came to a complete halt roughly seven meters from the kid, his eyes were also exuding a slight sense of disbelief and doubt.

"Did that kid just block Finley's attack?"

"I....couldn't see, it all happened to fast, but it sure sounded like it to me."

"I was able to catch a glimpse of Finley's saber as he was attacking, but I couldn't make out that kid's movements, I think it's safe to say that he blocked it, otherwise wouldn't that kid be sliced in two right now?"

"He definitely blocked it, the real question is was it skill or luck?"

"How would that be possible? Isn't it more likely that Finley went easy on him and pulled his saber back just before hitting him? I think Finley is just warning that idiot who doesn't know his place to hop down off the fighting stage." Hearing the talk of the crowd one of the fighters from C Company could no longer take the speculation and rebutted everyone's thoughts.

As the crowd was caught in their discussions Finley was still staring down Aker. Finley's doubt and disbelief turned into a denial as he called out "Kid you got lucky once, if you force me to attack again, I won't hold back this time, you could even lose your life. I don't know who dared you to jump onto this stage but I can tell you that your asking to die. Quickly apologize on your knees, agree to never show up in front of my eyes again, jump down and I can let you go."

Aker who wasn't listening was off in his own thoughts 'I've never taken a strike from anyone this weak before, is it possible that even the fighters from the King Killers wouldn't make good practice opponents? In that case I suppose I should just focus on practicing by myself like I used to do back in The Pit. It's a shame, I had really come to enjoy my practice time with Vance and Cap.'

While Finley was laying down threats and warning that entanglement with him could result in death, Aker was lamenting the fact that he still had yet to find anyone that he could practice his skills with that would push him. As everyone was blankly staring at him mouths wide open, it was clear as day that Aker's thoughts were somewhere else. Finally, with a deep sigh Aker's thought turned to Vance, 'I wish he was here, if only to practice with me'.

Seeing Aker's deep sigh, it was akin to someone turning the burners on the stove up to full throttle, Finley's face flushed a deep bright red, it almost appeared to those watching that his anger began to take form as Finley began to look more like a demon than a man. Is it possible to be so angry that it manifests into reality? The crowd had never heard of it but some of them would swear it was possible seeing Finley at this point.

"Are you ignoring me!?" Finley's killing intent was laced and mixed into his words as he spoke.

"I was just thinking about something, I didn't mean to get distracted, we should continue with our fight" Aker's words were filled with honest sentiment, everyone present could easily tell he wasn't egging on Finley in the slightest. Somehow this unknown kid was really lost in his own thoughts after exchanging a single blow with Finley.

"Is it possible that he was so scared after surviving Finley's attack, his life flashed before his eyes and he was lost in that moment of surviving a disaster?"

"That must be it, he was distracted because he just avoided a disaster."

"He should quickly focus then, otherwise he won't be able to escape this disaster after all. Isn't Finley ready to chop him down a peg or two. Even if we're not supposed to kill each other, I don't think Finley cares right now. With Leader Nathan Kula here even if he does kill this kid wouldn't he be able to easily explain it away? Who's going to care about some nameless kid from the Frail Fighters dying especially if it's by someone of Finley's abilities and background."

The crowd was going wild speculating Aker's thoughts and were mouthing out their thoughts.

Hearing the thoughts of the crowd verbalized and spoken aloud the fighters of D Company were now scared witless for Aker. Sure, Finley would beat Aker to a pulp and send him on his way, but never would they have considered Finely swinging his blade to take a life. Hearing the thoughts of the crowd it became evident that if Finley wanted to kill Aker right now there was nothing they could do, and worse yet, after Aker was killed no one would do anything to address their grievance.

Who in the entire division would stand up for an errand boy from the Frail Fighters? Would anyone be that crazy?

"What the hell could you be thinking about that's so important you could ignore me?" Finley was trying his hardest to maintain himself but his killing intent was now affecting his ability to talk. Hearing the words laced with the sound of death some of the weaker fighters who were standing close to the fighting stage took a step back under the pressure.

"It's really not important enough to discuss." Aker who had returned from his thoughts realized that perhaps his thoughts at the time were a little inappropriate for the situation. It wasn't that he wanted his mind to wander in that direction, it was simply that he didn't feel any pressure from Finely and as such his mind had time to wonder in that direction.

"I would really like to know what could be more important to you at this moment than me who is holding your very life and death in my grasp, that you could be distracted to the point that you ignore the very person who could reap your life it must be important." Finley was no longer hiding his intent to strike a killing blow, as far as he was concerned, he had reason on his side. How dare this speck, this disgusting and worthless insect ignore him....him who was a proud member of the King Killers!

"If you must know you have to remember it was you who asked me to say it…...."

"Shut up and spit it out, quite beating around the bush!" Finley was tired of this kid's nonchalant attitude. 'Doesn't he know that he is in the last moments of his life, how could he be so incredibly stupid to the point that even now he is ignoring me, bantering with me, and stringing me along?' Finley's thoughts were like antelope in the grass plains, they were running wild and free. As far as he was concerned Aker was screwing with him, testing his patience and pushing him to the very limits of what he could contain.

"Since you put that way…." With a slight pause Aker's words which were not too loud or too quiet resounded out "I was thinking about how I had never taken a blow from someone as weak as you and I was disappointed that you wouldn't be a good training partner. I was a little frustrated and finally disappointed realizing that you were supposed to be someone strong and you were only this much."

Like thunder bolts striking the ground causing the forest to catch fire leaving nothing in its wake, Aker's words were destructive and devastating. His tone was not one of mocking, in fact his words sounded genuinely upset that Finley was simply to weak. Hearing him speak it was evident to all who heard his words that he was truly disappointed at Finley's strength.

"Hahahahahahahahaha....So what if he dies, to tell that bastard from C Company that he was disappointed at how weak he was, if it was me, I could die with a smile on my face!" One of the fighters from D Company yelled out.

"To think that we were afraid for Aker and the entire time our errand boy was looking at Finley as someone not worth his time. That proud and domineering Finley is nothing in the eyes of our errand boy....that....you can't help but put a big grin on at the thought!" The fighter from D Company was so overwhelmed with excitement that he had to change his mind several times while talking, he wasn't sure what he wanted to say.

"So what if they take our sword, even if Aker loses, to block Finley's attack and then tell him that he's disappointed that he's too weak to even practice against.....I F'ing LOVE IT!"

All of the fighters from D Company who had been feeling down right oppressed suddenly had their spirits lifted. It wasn't because of the words that Aker uttered, it was the way he spoke them.

His words didn't contain a hint of mocking, a hint of disdain, a hint of looking down on, they were simply genuine feelings being conveyed from one person to another. To those fighters listening, to their everlasting shock it meant that this unknown kid wasn't looking down on Finley because looking down on someone would at least require you to acknowledge their presence. This kid was disappointed that this foe in front of him was simply not worth even practicing against. Could there be any shame for Finley greater than this? Could there be any disrespect that was worse? Perhaps if Aker walked up and spit on him that would be the finishing touch?

Rage and a deep desire to shred Aker instantly filled the air, Finley who had pictured a multitude of possible reasons that Aker was distracted could have never in a million....No, a billion years predicted that it was because this kid thought of him as to weak.

Finely was absolutely certain that the kid in front of him would acknowledge his greatness and apologize for ignoring him, apologize for even daring to step on the fighting stage and then beg for forgiveness. The script had already been written and was only waiting for the main actor to play his part. Even as Aker spoke Finley was left in doubt at the words he was hearing. It wasn't until the crowd began mocking Finley that he returned to his senses.

"I'll kill you!" Finely who could no longer hold himself back lunged forward, this time however, Finley was not attacking to simply scare the crowd and prove a point, this time only death awaited for Aker.
