Capítulo 23: Unexpected Contest

285 AC, Tyrosh, Drunken One's Inn…

"Melinor, this poor bastard challenged me for my title! Bring the barrels!!" Drunken God smirked and yelled. He stood up and turned around to look at the crowd in the inn.

People were drinking and laughing together when they heard the word "challenge". Every one of them turned their head to look at the challenger and realizing that it was the idiot that tried to sit on the champion's table, they chuckled.

"What do you say, mates? Should I show this green boy what is the meaning of being a champion?!" Drunken God opened his arms and shouted.

"Aye, show that bastard!"

"Hahaha, he is not even Tyroshi and he thinks he can challenge us!"

"Make him piss himself!!"

Yellings and shootings were heard from the crowd. All of them were eager to see Gerold's defeat. They all stood up and surrounded the champion's table.

Melinor brought the first round of the drinks with a little help from the men in the inn. Gerold was shocked because he was expecting a normal sized jar but what came was a small barrel that could take at least 5 litres.

Drunken God sat on the table with a huge smile on his face. He weighed the barrel and said, "Let me remind you of the Tyroshi rules, in case you are not familiar with them. First, you cannot stop when you start to drink, you need to finish all of the barrels. Second, you one minute to finish each barrel. Third, if you spill from your barrel then you will lose ten seconds for each spill. Fourth, you can't leave the table without losing or winning."

"You said there is no leaving the table before winning or losing?" Gerold was shocked to hear these rules because he was expecting this to be a normal drinking contest. Especially the fourth rule. After drinking this 5-litre barrel, he certainly needed to piss or his bladder would explode like a barrel of litten wildfire.

Drunken God raised an eyebrow and asked, "What's that? Are you planning to give up, already?"

The Gerold snorted and said, "Hmph, I just need to siphon the python."

Drunken God burst into laughter with everyone, "Of course, there is an alley just beside the inn, you can do the job there."

Gerold stood up without saying anything and went to the door of the inn. Seeing the holy guards coming behind him he said, "Stay here." He turned around without waiting for a reply and went outside. After draining it to the last drop for three minutes, he went in again.

Drunken God and the crowd was waiting for him while discussing Gerold. Seeing him coming in everyone silenced and some of them began to give their coins to others.

"Aye, didn't I say to you guys? This one won't escape as easily as others when he saw the barrel!" said Drunken God while smirking and showing his yellow teeth.

Gerold sat on the chair and weighted the barrel just like Drunken God did and said, "Let's start."

Drunken God's smile gone from his face and a stoic face took its place, "Aye." He stood up and put one of his foot on the chair and took the barrel with both of his hands and readied himself to drink it.

Melinor looked at both men, "On the count of three!" Melinor started counting, "One!... Two!..." She looked at both men one last time and yelled, "Three!!"

Drunken God chugged back the drink while Gerold began slowly drinking it as he was not familiar to the taste of it. However, with time his drinking speed began to accelerate.

Most of the crowd was yelling for Drunken God, only several of them and the holy guards were yelling for Gerold.

After twenty seconds, Drunken God was finished with two-third of his barrel while Gerold was at one-third of his barrel.

Soon, twenty more seconds have passed and Drunken God just finished his ale. He put the barrel down the table with a strong grip and belched loudly for seven seconds.

Gerold's belly was already bulging as he drank nearly 4 litres of ale in forty seconds. However, it was already certain that he was going to finish the barrel and, indeed, after ten seconds he finished it.

Gerold put the barrel softly to the table and burped without a sound then he raised his head and looked at the Drunken God who was wiping his mouth with his arm.

"Good job, boy. Be proud, you are the second person who made this far! Though the first one passed out as soon as she finished her barrel. Hahahaha!" Drunken God burst into laughter like a drunk monkey, "Melinor, bring the second round of the drinks."

Melinor was already preparing them so without letting them wait she brought them to table with the help of one of the men in the inn.

Meanwhile, Gerold leaned to the side and put one of his fingers in his mouth and with a little push, he vomited nearly all of the ale he drank.

"Erk…!" Seeing this disgusting action all of the onlookers sickened. On the other hand, Melinor was looking at Gerold with a very angry face like the face of a bull who saw a red flag. After all, she was the one who was going to clean it.

Drunken God looked at Gerold with a disgusted face and said, "Are you ready, boy?"

"I'm ready," said Gerold, simply.

Both of them took their position while waiting for the countdown.

Melinor looked at them with irritated faces and humphed, "One, two, three!"

Both of the contestants were not expecting such a fast countdown so when they tried to raise their barrel Drunken God spilt a few drops onto the table.

"Shit." Drunken God saw the drops so he went to drink his barrel immediately. Meanwhile, Gerold was slowly raising the barrel to his lips.

Gerold was already feeling drowsy because of the previous round of drinks. However, he was determined to win this as this was going to help his cause in Tyrosh, greatly.

Soon, twenty seconds have passed and Gerold was already finished with two fourth of his barrel as he was getting used to drinking it. Meanwhile, Drunken God was too finished with two fourth of his barrel but he was a bit nervous as he lost 10 seconds because of the fucking Melinor. However, he was confident that he would be able to finish in time.

This time, Drunken God finished at 42nd second and Gerold finished at 50th second. However, there was a problem. Gerold vision was already blackening and his head was aching like an infected wound because of all the ale he drank.

Drunken God smirked when he saw this as his victory was getting certain with each round. Suddenly, something came to his mind a cruel smile taken its place on his face.

"Boy, from what I see you won't last long against me. What do you say for a change in our little bet?" asked Drunken God.

Gerold was holding his head when he heard Drunken God. He raised his head while creasing his brows and asked, "What sort of a change are you talking about?"

Drunken God chuckled, "Haha, don't you worry, it is nothing big. You will take a little sip from my flask and if you can hold yourself for one minute, you will win."

Gerold was confused as this was a better offer than their contest but he still believed there was something tricky in his offer so he asked, "What's the catch?"

"Well, if you win you can still ask whatever you want but if I win you will give me everything you have and will serve me until the day you die." Drunken God answered with an innocent face.
