Capítulo 77: The Kings Selection

The king had always been in charge of his destiny. It was only now that Vaal knew what it felt like to be one of the masses. As Gilgamesh's golden form stood before him, he felt his knees tremble. When Gilgamesh asked him for his hand, Vaal realized that he wasn't in any position to refuse their patron god. Vaal held up his hand for his city's patron god and waited for Gilgamesh to grip it.

Vaal felt a Gilgamesh's cool golden clad hands touch his own and felt a foreign consciousness touch his own. Vaal felt bare before what felt like a needle pricking his mind searching for something. While he tried to avoid Gilgamesh's needle, he still was able to feel a slither of his thoughts as he searched for something. He was able to see glimpses of things that scared him. He felt an empty void envelope him, and an extreme heat burns him as he was falling before Gilgamesh seemed to realize he was leaking and hid his thoughts from him.

Gilgamesh searched Vaal until he seemed to find what he was looking for in his head. Hidden in the depths of his mind where he kept many of the things he wasn't proud of him. Vaal was suddenly able to take human form in a black castle. Vaal looked around confused before being able to make out Gilgamesh's hazy form. Vaal, being Vaal, was unable to shut his mouth and began to question his surroundings, "where am I?"

Vaal forgot himself and became indignant once again, "what have you done to me."

Gilgamesh once again ignored him, looking around at the black structure his copper eyes seemed to see through his dreamscape. Suddenly Vaal saw Gilgamesh cock his head in the direction of a particular wall, and as he walked closer to it, Vaal had an uncomfortable feeling. Vaal didn't know why but he just knew that if Gilgamesh reached that wall, it wouldn't be good. Gilgamesh took a few more steps on the pitch-black floor, and suddenly, the color of their surroundings seemed to fade. All that remained was the wall, which took on a vibrant red hue and Gilgamesh's golden clad form.

With each step, Gilgamesh got closer to the wall, and Vaal felt more uncomfortable pinpricks collect in his stomach. Vaal tried to manage his pain but could not stop himself. He ran at Gilgamesh's form, trying to stop him from reaching the wall. Vaals form began to take a more ephemeral shape. And his ghostly form grew. Vaals vision suddenly blurred and felt himself fall, followed by searing pain. Vaal realized Gilgamesh bisected his body without even slowing his pace toward the red wall.

Gilgamesh stopped just before the wall and touched it, causing Vaal's dream state to end.

Once again, Vaal was in the throne room standing in front of Gilgamesh, thankfully that he was still whole. Vaal preoccupied with checking his body was still whole forgot his patron god was starring at him, But he quickly realized that he was the center of attention when he looked up to find copper eyes that promised chaos.

Gilgamesh was not surprised by what he had found. Though he was surprised that what his monster of a child affects Vaal so much, Gilgamesh finally spoke, "So Vaal, tell me why you let your son have twenty women chained up in the basement."

Vaal felt defeated. His son had always been spoiled, and he had never told his children no. One thing had led to another, and eventually, his son had created a sex slave den in his own home. Vaal wasn't surprised by what Gilgamesh had found, but he was unhappy that the unpleasant memories he had suppressed about his oldest son Faux had resurfaced.

Vaal's wife Katak had a bit more of an extreme reaction. Her voice projected her disbelief and concern, "What are you talking about, Patron god Gilgamesh." While she didn't believe what their cities patron god said, she still tried to maintain decorum. it wouldn't do to anger this god. "my children would never harm innocents."

Gilgamesh glanced at her and then turned his attention to Vaal again and asked, "Will you tell them or should I."

Vaal looked down in shame and then bulked. He told his wife about what their eldest son Faux had done, which both shocked him and disgusted her. Vaal looked up into Gilgamesh's eyes and was about to plead for his son's life. Gilgamesh did not seem to give it a second thought before he snapped his fingers, and a copper flame sprung up on Faux skin before anyone could react.

Faux screamed as his hands stretched toward Gilgamesh, and with a wordless scream, he fell over dead much to the horror of his entire family shortly after all that was left of him was ash.

Gilgamesh smiled for the first time since meeting the royal family, giving almost everyone in the room the creeps. Gilgamesh exclaimed, "the first candidates for selection have been screened and found unfit to be king."
