Capítulo 18: Chapter 16: Suspicion

Feliciano, despite of his dislike to the Oligarchy and the government never wished to rise against it. Rather, he wishes to profiteer and take advantage of its loopholes and live a life which he wanted. However, with the recent turn of events he wishes to depart from from his recent hometown and lead a new life elsewhere.
Since the night of the incident, Feliciano distanced himself from Roman and the other villagers and planned to leave. He was thinking of first where to settle down. He does not wish to return to the capital where he may see his family and relatives there. Peace and order situation in the Bangsamoro region is worse as kidnappings and recent Rebellions also are taking place.
Moving to Sugbu would be the best option he thought and is preparing to leave as soon as he can. He decided to close his store for the day, packs his things and tried to act as normal as possible.
"Felix!" His friend Roman called his attention.
The sudden change of Feliciano's attitude towards him made Roman suspicious. He thought that Feliciano may have seen that incident two nights ago.
Feliciano trying to not look suspicious towards his friend met him outside of his house. He greeted him cheerfully.
"Good morning Roman, how has it been?" Feliciano asked him.
"Still the same Felix, just returned back from town last night." Roman replied and tapped his friend's shoulder. He looks around his store and was puzzled why Feliciano closed it for the day and asked him.
"It's rare to see you close your store today. What happened Felix?" Roman referred to his friend.
"My distant relative at Sugbu has died due to cancer. I have to go and see them, they are the only family I have left." Feliciano said.
Thinking that Feliciano is not a family person nor have introduced his relatives to him. Roman saw through his alibi and pretended not to notice.
"How about I go with you to Sugbu for once to see your relatives?" Roman asked him.
Hearing this horror painted in Feliciano's face it seems like his alibi did not work on Roman. He is not like most of the villagers who are rather docile. Charisma is not only the attributes of the man in front of him. He must think of plans to shake him off.
"What's the matter my friend?" Roman looks at him suspiciously.
Feliciano tried to recover and tried to paint a cheerful face once more. "It's nothing really, hahaha! I thought I won the lottery, it just popped up in my mind!" He act in an obvious yet animated manner trying to hide his fear of the man in front of him.
Roman gave up and tried to act as if he does not know of Feliciano's motives. He read his friend well and he knows that he is trying to flee the village. He knows that Feliciano saw that incident with the soldier he rounded up with the villagers two nights ago. Loosing a friend is one thing but with him loosing his tongue to the authorities is something he cannot afford. Not that his planned revolt has not started yet.
"I shall be on my way then, my friend!" Roman said and waved his hand.
"S-sure, see you soon my friend when I return." Feliciano said and hurriedly went back to his house.
"That was close!" Feliciano said with his heart almost out his chest.
He also noticed that Roman may have known of his motives. Because of this Feliciano hurriedly packed his things and decided to leave tomorrow by noon. He does not wish to travel by night because there are no reliable lighting in the road and the village is too secluded. He also grabs his revolver just in case for self defense.
Feliciano waited until afternoon, he tried to take a stroll near his house just to calm himself down. He is done packing his things and his car is ready for the trip tomorrow. He left most of his personal belongings. He took what he can take with him in his car which is already loaded in the trunk.
On his way home he saw some young men who were near his neighbors house. It seems like they are arguing about something. He happens to overhear their arguments but did not bother to eavesdrop and continued on his way.
"Is that ka-Felix, Mr. Roman's friend?" A youngster asked.
"Yes, he is being cold to our leader recently." The youngster's friend replied.
"I hear he is packing his things. Is he leaving?" The youngster looked at Feliciano who hurried on his way.
"No, I hear he is only visiting his relative in Sugbu who died of cancer." The youngster's friend stopped him.
Roman had informed the village that Feliciano may leave anytime and are telling them that they should do something about it. The villagers have their eyes on him and are suspicious of his moves. Without him knowing they are already spying on him.
Feliciano is now thinking of a way to escape while he still can. He decided instead to leave by noon the next day to leave during sunset. The headlights of his vehicle should be enough to light his way. He wastes no time to leave, it's now or never.
