Capítulo 3: A bed for the night
Isla looked down at the sleeping girl in her arms and frowned. How did Dawn expect her to carry the child in her arms like a baby, just because he's able to do that? She wasn't a nearly 2 meter giant.
'"Lumi, wake up. You have to at least crawl onto my back if you want me to carry you."
"mmmm..." the girl made some acknowledging sounds but made no other effort.
"I know you heard me and I'll drop you in three second if you don't move. ONE, TWO.."
Before she could even say 'Thr', Lumine opened her dark eyes and stared accusingly at the older girl. She got down and for the first time noticed her surroundings.
"I can walk on my own...but give me your hand."
A small hint of a smile appeared on Islas lips.
Holding hands, they followed the road, all while the young girl was bombarding her with questions.

"Found you."
Getting a clear look at the boy in front of him, Dawn noticed some small details.
Not only had the young stranger bright red and disheveled hair that looked like someone cut it with his eyes closed, his face was covered in freckles and his clothes seemed way to big for him and mended in multiple places. But despite his first poor impression, he was surprisingly clean.
"Are you going to drag me back to those liars?"
His voice was faint and slightly trembling.
"It depend on you. Do I hve a reason to do so?"
Suddenly regaining his confidence, he shouted:
"No! I'm not a criminal! I only took my payment which they refused to give me, so I'm no thief! An you're not a merchant, I suppose?Don't look like one - so you shouldn't care."
Dawn stayed silently for a moment, then he answered.
"Your right, I'm not a merchant. Neither an officer. My name is Dawn and you could say my profession includes helping people. And I'm still trying to decide who's in the right. It might help if you elaborate a bit more about this deal you have with the merchants. Alternatively you could talk it out with them personally if that's what you prefer."
"No! I'll explain!"
Dawn thought 'Good boy' and smiled inwardly.
"I'm Flint Tassel and for years now, I've been working for the merchants of this town by attracting customers. I know some really popular tricks." Flint smiled from ear to ear "I would get the attention of strangers and advertise the products and lead them to specific stalls, if needed. And in return I'm being paid, not even with money, but food.
Over the last weeks fewer and fewer travellers have taken this route. Apparently some bandits were seen in the woods, so everyone says the longer route through the east is safer.
But back to my situation: I do my work properly so I should be paid. Decreasing customers arend my fault. "
"OK, that doesn't explain why you took your 'payment' forcefully, but I'll help to mediate."
Dawn yawned heartedly
"Tomorrow. I hope the girls found an inn."
"Bad news for you: There's no inn in this town."

When Isla and Lumine arrived at the marked place only one stand still had a vendor guarding their merchandise.
With not much other option, they approached the old woman which instantly put on her business smile.
"All diary products are of the best quality. So which one do you want?"
"Oh, we just wanted to ask for some directions. Could you tell us where to find an inn?"
As soon as Isla spoke the business smile vanished. She didn't get unfriendly but was clearly a bit disappointed by her supposed 'customers'.
"The inn has been right over there," she gestured at a white building "but it's out of business. Been three month? The owner moved to another city to make more profit.That was the only inn we had."
It was Lumine who spoke this time.
" Thank you, for telling us... and I'll take a bit of that cheese."
she rummaged in her pockets for her coins. After paying she turned around to Isla and asked:
"What are we doing now?"
"Not much. We'll wait for your brother."
