Baator, Nessus, Blackrock City
Blackrock City was very close to the Mirkwood Forest, which was home to the countless rat-type magical beast species.
In the Baator, there was a rare symbiosis between magical beasts and other races. It was from times when the Empire was created that it was forbidden to hunt magical beasts to extinction, and we just let them be.
Every few decades, they would face overpopulation and thus would create magical beast hordes that would attack our cities, where we would usually kill them all. This was done for several reasons, but mainly that the Empire's population constantly lived in danger and had reason to improve themselves.
And this reason was fulfilled splendidly, as every citizen was forced to learn to fight and strive to improve personal power as much as possible. Letting magical beasts live on the same level as citizens of the Empire dramatically speeds up the creation of a strict martial society and competitive environment.
Another reason was that there was practically no reason to actively hunt magical beasts for resources, as technically, there was no need for that. Magical Beasts reproduced countless times faster than any species in the Baator, and within a few decades, their overall population could be multiplied even a hundred times, if not more.
This then caused brutal infighting between various magical beast races and thus creating either magical beast's hordes that would be created to lessen their own numbers. Also, we can often scavenge corpses of magical beats that killed each other.
Also, this resulted in the creation of other prominent professions in the Baator, that as Beast Master and Familiar Contractor. Both of them focused on the cultivation of Magical Beasts to fight.
"Attention to the citizens of Blackrock City. Incoming Magical Beast Horde from the Mirkwood Forest."
Shit, why just now must those fucking spiders be overpopulated?
Mirkwood Forest was home to large colonies of spider-type magical beasts. There were especially several enormous colonies of Acromantulas.
As a current Lord Belial, Head of the House with the rank of Chthonian High Lord, my duty was to lead the soldiers into the fight to protect the city.
I quickly went to the city walls, where soldiers of the various military branches were gathering as millions of spider-type magical beasts were exiting the Mirkwood Forest.
Mirkwood Forest is one of the danger zones in the Baator, and the average level of magical beasts was around Commander Level to Grand Commander Level, which was comparable to the High-Class and Grand-Class, respectively.
I already saw even thousands of higher leveled spiders, mainly General to Monarch Level, and there was even one Emperor Level spider leading the horde.
'Either this is newly advanced Emperor Level Magical Beast Spider, or this one probably offended Aragog and was cast out of the Mirkwood.'
I thought while observing the spiders.
Aragog was Tier 9 Acromantula who was the de-facto ruler of the Mirkwood Forest.
"Activate the barrier and load batteries, and start bombardment."
I ordered; as soon enough translucent barrier enveloped the entire city. This barrier was strong enough to resist even Tier 10 powerhouses for an extended period of time. Unfortunately, the energy consumption was too high and could be maintained only at full power only for a few hours before it would be weakened.
While rare, sometimes magical beast hordes managed to breach cities, that happened only twice. Both hordes were enormous and were led by Apocalypse-Class magical beasts.
Anti-Matter Magicule Canon Batteries started firing countless rounds at the incoming spider swarm as magician corps started casting numerous spells. Even Forbidden-Tier Spells were used rather often, as they could cast them collectively.
Unfortunately, Blackrock City didn't have stationed Voidfleet permanently; thus, our offensive capabilities were significantly reduced, but thinking about it, using voidfleet against the magical beast horde would tear it to shreds something that I was trying to prevent.
It would seriously damage potential resources.
"Focus on the Emperor Level Acromantula and those of Monarch Level and Marshall Level. We need to deal with swarm controllers first."
I gave out orders to try to kill as many strongest spiders as possible.
Usually, in magical beast species, the strongest individuals are the so-called controllers as they could control the magical beast horde. Not every time it was so, but in the majority of cases, out of several Monarch Level spiders, at least two would be horde controllers aside from the swarm leader.
Most of the spider-type magical beasts, if not all, were mainly physically oriented when it came to combat, while their innate magic was more subtle. The strong sides of spiders were mostly their poison, as some species had extremely difficult abilities to deal with, especially when it came to their venom.
On the other hand, that made it so rare in the Empire, and even one bottle of the venom from strong Acromantula would fetch a nice amount of Soul Coins. Of course, venom glans of Emperor Level Acromantula or other spider species of similar strength would fetch even a considerable amount of Divine Crystals or Mana Crystals.
While my Worthless Clan Trait was a bad match against these things, my martial arts would make an easy process with them as I gripped my spear and rushed at the incoming strong spider-type magical beasts; with each swing of my spear, one of the spiders were killed.
I focused mainly on the Marshall and Monarch Level spiders, as they were an actual danger; soldiers could handle the rest.
After my spear pierced the head of one of Monarch Level spiders of the kind I don't recognize, I looked around and found the leader of this horde of Spider-type magical beasts, the Emperor Level Acromantula that was wreaking havoc on the battlefield, as it fiercely attacked the barrier.
'That fucker found one of the pillar points...'
I thought in my head as I spread my wings and flew to the location of the Emperor Level Acromantula.
Fortunately, I am Super Devil in both Demonic Energy and Phyisuqe, as everyone in the House of Belial was required to train their body to the extreme, as it complemented our Clan Trait and, later on, the Law of Negation.
'This is going to be a long fight...'
I thought as I watched how the spider's chitin armor deflected most of the damage.
