Justin was baffled by this conversation. Emily seemed pretty mad, like she had wanted to talk about this for a long time, but he couldn't believe it was actually happening.

"An overblown sense of obligation?!" she sputtered. "What kind of person do you think I am?"

"A too nice one," he said plainly. "Come on, Em, I'm a loser! I always have been. Isn't feeling sorry for me why you picked me to be on your volleyball team in the first place? And why you sought me out afterwards to sign my almost completely empty yearbook? I wasn't angry when you forgot me; I get it. I wasn't important enough to remember."

"That's not tru—"

"Let me finish," Justin requested. He was on a roll. If he didn't get this out now, he never would.

"I joined Blogr because we didn't have any classes together our freshman year and I wanted to see what you were up to. I left supportive comments, became your secret admirer, and left all those big tips because I cared.
