Capítulo 2: Prologue (2/2)

"Wishes shouldn't be granted. They're better off not coming true. When their wishes aren't granted, people actually put in effort. It's because they don't come true that people make progress. But if all their wishes come true, people won't be able to move forward anymore, you know?"

-Alis Color (Kamisama no Inai Nichyoubi)

"Okay okay, thats enough boss," One of El Chapos's henchman said, placing a hand on his boss's shoulder. "If you hit him anymore than this then there'll be trouble for us later if he winds up in the hospital again."

El Chapo backed up, his face red and his breathing ragged as if he had just finished running a mile. "Yeah...sure, lets end it here. Your lucky we're letting you off you little bitch."

Max, who had been taken a beating from El Chapo for the past three minutes, spat out blood for the 4th time before smiling. His left eye was beginning to swell and had turned an ugly shade of black, but despite that he still maintained a look of amusement.

"Is that all you got?" Max asked after spitting more blood onto the floor. "I didn't know you idiots were that weak, I couldn't even tell when you hit me."

"Why you little....!!!" El Chapo said, moving forward to kick the Max's collapsed figure. He was stopped however by his two cronies as they pulled him away.

The two henchmen began dragging El Chpo out of the room with him still struggling, violently kicking the air and throwing top tier curses towards Max. It was clear that he wanted to finish things, but due to the fact that his two friends were stronger then he was, it was clear that he wouldn't be able to.

Max kept the smile on his face long after they had left, his body refusing to move from the spot on the floor. The blood flowed from various wounds and his stomach felt like emptying its contents onto the floor. However, it still wasnt the worst thing Max had gone through.

After around a half hour of just sitting and feeling his body throb in pain, Max finally made an effort to get up, even though every movement was torturous. As much as he wanted to fight the three ugly bastards and kick their teeth in, he was far too weak for it to even be a possibility.

"One day, I swear those bastards will pay for what they did to me," Max muttered witu clenched teeth as he rose to his feet. "But for now, lets just concentrate on getting home."

Max didn't live very far from school, only around a mile or so, and was required to walk everyday to and from school. Half the time this wasn't necessarily a problem as he could traverse this distance with relative ease. It was the other half that consistently became the problem.

Max was a magnet for trouble, drawing in bullies and girls with mental issues from all over the city. Also, thanks to his inability to keep his mouth shut whenever he got scared, he would always end up pissing people off and getting his ass kicked. There was even one time where it got so bad that he had been sent to the ICU due to numerous broken bones and a possible life threatening injury.

Needless to say, Max's luck was equivalent to that of Touma Kamijou's, that is to say completely rotten without an ounce of good. He was weak and he knew it, but despite trying to change himself for the better, he simply accepted that he was a runt and thats where he would always stay.

Hoisting his backpack onto his shoulders and stumbling for a bit with his aching legs, Max made his way to the door, wiping the blood from his mouth. He had to at least wipe away some of the evidence lest teachers began asking questions. He wasn't worried about students finding out though as most of them would be indifferent to the situation.

The walk home would normally take at least 30-45 minutes at a casual pace on a good day. However, whenever Max got injured like he had today, the time would double, somtimes even triple to the point where dinner would even be made by the time he got there.

This particular trip was no different, or rather, it normally wouldn't have been, except it was this walk that forever changed his life, and would've ended it too if he hadn't tripped for the 14th time that day.

About 40 minutes into Max's walk home, with the young man limping painfully down the street, he noticed something black in the sky.

At first he thought it was a bird and just kept on with his struggles, stumbling occasionally as his aching legs carried him along. Looking back up after a few minutes, he was alarmed to see that the black dot had grown to the size of a car and had gotten close enough for him to actually see it.

It appeared to be a pitch black rock with a smooth surface and, even though it was moving rather fast, Max could see that even for a rock, it was irregularly shaped. It closely resembled that of a deformed tree, if trees were pitch black and had a metallic like surface of course.

For more then half a minute, Max just stood their and stared at it, watching it come ever so closer. It wasn't until it was almost on top of him that he had the idea to move, using all the strength he could muster into his already damaged legs to jump to the side. He rolled for a second before ending in a crouching stance.

The tree-like meteor crashed directly into the spot where Max had been standing, leaving a rather small crater in the sidewalk. This was the part that raised questions for Max, besides why such a random thing would happen to him.

The meteor itself was roughly the size of a bus, or a really big car, yet it had only left a rather small crater upon impact. Though it was possible as it could just have been lighter, Max found it strange as the metallic meteor appeared to be much heavier then that.

Rising up onto his feet, Max readjusted his backpack and made his way forward. Though he was a bit freaked out, his curiosity far surpassed his other emotions and drew him closer to the crater. It was almost as if an unseen force was slowly urging him forth.

Max stood on the edge of the hole made by the meteor, gazing down at the pitch black, deformed tree shaped rock. Even from thirty feet away, Max could feel a strange pressure oozing from the metallic surface of the stone, a sort of suffocating presence that made him feel a bit lightheaded.

Turning around, Max intended to walk away from it. Though he had never seen something so mysterious before and he was beyond curious, he felt that something that he wasn't perpared for would happen if he stayed any longer. Trusting his gut instinct, Max decided that leaving was his best option.

"Desire, What is it? Fame? Money? Power? I can grant it all, but only 3 wishes am I allowed to give."

A voice rang through Max's head, causing him to nearly fall onto the floor in surprise as he quickly glanced around to see who had spoken. "Yoda? Is that you calling me from the afterlife?"

"No you moron, its me, the stone!! I swear that humans get dumber and dumber with each century!"

Max frowned as he glanced back at the giant deformed metal tree. He had a hard time believing that a tree was speaking to him, but as he was familiar with the Wizard of Oz, he figured he could handle it.

"Oh wise tree, what does thou want from me?" Max asked dramatically, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. He turned around and began to walk back to the edge of the crater.

"Oh ha ha, very funny kid," The tree said with a tone filled with annoyance. "I already told you that I can grant you 3 wishes and I can't really make it any clearer. Your just remarkably stupid."

"And your remarkably condescending for an ugly tree," Max replied as he once again stood at the edge of the crater. "You don't even know me and your already judging me...f*cking d*ck."

"Okay okay, I'm sorry," The tree replied, his tone becoming apologetic. "Let me clarify for a bit. I am Yggdrasill, also known as the tree of life!! Once every thousand years, I drop in on Earth to grant a single person a total of three wishes before disappearing again. This time, you were lucky enough to be chosen."

"Okay, though I have many questions, lets just get those wishes out of the way," Max said, dropping his backpack onto the floor. The straps had begun to seriously dig into his shoulders, making them ache even more. "Are there any restrictions on what I can wish for?"

"None, so long as its only three wishes!!" Yggdrasill replied.

"I want to be the strongest, to be able to speak girls without them laughing at me, and I want friends, friends I can laugh and have a fun time with." Max voiced these wishes out almost immediately after Yggdrasill had finished speaking. It was clear that those wishes were some of his most heartfelt and deeply held desires.

Yggdrasill remained silent for a momebt before laughing, a sound similar to a summer breeze blowing through the branches of a tree. "Is that all you want? Kid, your too innocent for words.....but I like it."

"The things that you wish for are easily obtainable, but instead of granting all your wishes, I'll send you to the place where you can obtain all of them with your own two hands!!" Yggdrasil had a hint of amusement as he spoke, clearly still finding humor in Max's three wishes. "This place is fraught with danger, filled with friends and enemies alike. Its a magical place unlike any other."

"So your sending me to Narnia?" Max asked jokingly, keeping his expression serious. "Nice call."

"Ugh, your impossible! Im sending you to the world of One Piece ya damn nerd." Yggdrasill said, becoming irritated once again. "However, I will be granting your three wishes, but in my own way."

"For the first wish, I'll be giving you a devil fruit that will rely on you having to constantly train in order to use. I'll just transfer it into you when I teleport you so you wont have to worry about eating it. I'll also remove the negative effect of you being unable to swim."

"Wow, I didn't know you cared so much for me!!" Max said witu a smile. "I appreciate it."

"Oh I do have an ulterior motive but you'll figure that out after I warp you to One Piece." Yggdrasill gave an evil chuckle before continuing on to the second wish.

"For the second wish, I'll simply be giving you fluffy wolf ears and a long fluffy wolf tail. Not only will it be a perfect conversation starter, but a lot of women are actually attracted to cute things. Your welcome."

"Okay now your just fucking with me!!" Max said, crossing his arms and pouting.

"Yep, but as for the third wish...I can't really help you by giving you anything, but how about I travel with you andgive you guidance?"

"Go with me?" Max asked, rather surprised. "I don't think I can carry a giant metal tree around with me everywhere I go."

"Ugh, your a moron, I'll just show you what I mean once we arrive in the world of One Piece." The tree replied, no doubt shaking his imaginary head at the pure idiocy Max was displaying. "I'll be teleporting you now."

"Wait wait wait, I'm not re-"

Before he could even finish his sentence, he was surrounded by a flash of light and shot upwards.

The last thought that passed through Max's head?

"When did this become Star Trek?"
