I opened the door to my house and saw boxes in the living room. They all had my name on them. My mother was nowhere in sight, but my older sister was sitting on the couch sipping tea. I ignored her and stacked up boxes. After all of the boxes were stacked, I carried the stacks of two to the door. I got my phone out of my pocket and called Jordan.
"Hey, Salem. Need something?" he said as I heard a lot of commotion in the background.
"Yeah, can I move in today?" I asked sounding a bit desperate.
"Of course! Should I get you a moving van?"
"No, I can drive there on my own." I said as a small metal object hit me in the back of my head. My sister threw her keys at me.
"Okay, well drive safe." he said and then hung up the phone.
I picked up my sister's keys and walked out to her car and made room for all of my boxes. My older sister walked out of mom's house in her red hoodie and got in the driver's seat.
"Listen, kid." she said as she stared down at the wheel. "Mom's really mad at you and wants you out of her life. I recommend you stay away from home for as long as you can. Got that?"
"Yeah, Sienna." I said with a bit of sadness in my voice.
I mean, who wouldn't in my position? My mother was my only parent. Dad left us after Sienna turned thirteen. I was only seven when it happened so I didn't really know what was happening. As Sienna drove, I began to think about my childhood. My mother was the sweetest woman back then. Whenever she was stressed, Sienna and I wouldn't mess with her. Sienna was noramlly really moody and I was just... well... me. I was known for havimg flashy eyes. My eyes changed color with my emotion. When I'm sad, they're blue, angry/hazel, happy/dark green, disgusted/light green, neutral/grey. I looked out of the window after driving for what I thought was forty minutes and saw a two story house. The GPS said we had arrived aat our destination as a tall guy with a ponytail walked towards Sienna's car.
"Jordan!" I said as I got out of the car. "It's been too long."
"It really has." he said as he hugged me.
"I'm going to take a wild guess and say you both used to bang." Sienna said as she grabbed a stack of boxes and put them on the trunk.
"Wait what?" Jordan said with a face that shared the pigment of a tomato. "We were classmates in high school."
"Sienna, if we were a couple we'd probably be one of the rare sights." I said as i avoided eye contact with Jordan and my sister.
"Oh, so student council president and jock is a rare sight? I don't really care anymore. Just get your shit and go." she said as she pointed to the boxes.
Jordan helped me carry everything in. Jordan showed me to an empty room. It had nothing but a bed.
"I'll introduce you to everyone else later. And for the record, there are other girls." he said as he walked out of the room.
