Capítulo 3: Back Story

Cassie's POV

Locking herself in her bedroom, Cassie could not hold the tea flooding her eyes. Instantly, her world turns apart. If she lost everything now, nowhere could she go?

Does this mean she has to leave? She meets no other relatives but only his uncle, who betrayed her.

When her parents died in a storm, her uncle took her to France with his family, and she moved to Paris and lived there for four years.

She is twelve years old, and her uncle told her they would adopt her. She agreed immediately, not realizing they would rob her one day. Then one day, Lydia lived on the island after her uncle's death.

No wonder Lydia wants to move her. She and her daughter Mimie often travel around the world and bring home so much luggage loaded with new bags, shoes, clothes, etc...

That's right; maybe she can contact her best friend to help her. Perhaps she can borrow money to buy her plane ticket to France and find work there. Or sell something from the house?

Since someone already offers her a scholarship program for college, she can accept that and work while taking courses.

However she doesn't have a cellphone, but she only owns a computer that she rarely uses for research materials and school stuff. Not to mention the island has a poor network connection. She also has no interest in any social media. How can she contact him?

The pain began hammering her head from thinking of other plans and how she could contact Levi to help her out. Her heart also gets heavier at the thought she has to leave this place again now she doesn't own the house anymore and the 40 hectares of man-made forests her parents gave their hearts to plant thousands of trees. That land is her treasure. Upon remembering her parents, tears again escape from her eyes.

Hiryuu Island is in Northern Asia, where the sun has its beautiful sunrise. Having a small active volcano, it was famous for its hot springs.

Many decades ago, this place was nothing, abandoned and forgotten. Her dad inherits a small piece of land from his grandparents. He met her mom the day he arrived and looked for an address. Falling in love at first sight, her dad never wanted to leave the island. Instead, he began cultivating the land and gave all his resources to transform the deserted mountain into a man-made forest. Her dad, a fresh graduate of his course as an Environmentalist and a biology major, effortlessly created a miracle.

But life is still unfair after everything... All that was precious to her was now gone, and she was left alone.

The light from her window blinded her, the picture frame on her dresser caught by the afternoon sunlight.

What time is it? She glanced at her bedside table; it was a quarter before three in the afternoon. Although her stomach was complaining, she ignored it.

She gets off her bed, picks up the dresser's picture frame, and brings it back to her bed. She throws herself on the soft mattress and closes her eyes, holding their family picture frame and fresh tears falling from her eyes.

"Brother, where are you?" the words she utters before she falls asleep.

Shun's POV

After Cassie ran upstairs, he turned to his assistants. "Rudolf, call some people to dispose of all that stuff from the two bedrooms in the middle."

"Yes, boss!" Rudolf answered, then went to the back porch and took out his phone from the back pocket of his pants.

"Daichi, follow me." Shun gets up from the long sofa and walks toward the staircase.

"Hey, boss! You said we would wait for the Miss to —" he did not finish his sentence when his boss turned around and peered at him.

"We're not going to her room. I'm taking you to see the two rooms I wanted to empty first thing tomorrow," Shun stated after heaving a long sigh.

Daichi felt a little strange but shook it away. "Okay," he replied.

Daichi whistled after opening the master's bedroom. Luxury is displayed in every corner of the room. The older woman makes sure she'll live like a queen. "Check out the wardrobe," Shun ordered.

He nodded, then opened the sliding door of the walk-in closet. He steps inside, opens every drawer he sees, and can't stop whistling.

"What a scumbag relative the Miss has," Daichi pitied Cassie.

"Boss, those jewelry pieces have cost hundreds of thousands of US dollars," he reported.

Anger struck Shun's face... not to mention those paintings and antique vases displayed around the bedroom. "Let's go to the other room," he said afterward.

Daichi just followed his boss. He opens the other room and shockingly punches his face. "What the f**k!?" he exclaimed.

Shun shush him because Cassie's bedroom is just the next room. Daichi covered his mouth to avoid cursing. Another word escaped from his mouth.

The room was a total mess. It throws clean and dirty clothes all over the room. They're not just ordinary dresses; most are designer clothes. The shoes and heels lying on the floor are from a known brand. Even the bags just scattered anywhere in the room.

"Put them all in the auction," Shun ordered. Daichi nodded.

"Yes, boss." He was right. Daichi went to the walk-in closet to check for more jewelry. That girl also owns expensive jewelry; they mostly find bangles and earrings in the dresser. Unlike in the other room, they mostly see huge necklaces and heavy beads of earrings. This mother and daughter! Daichi cursed them inside his head.

He saw his boss leaving the room, so he followed and quietly closed the messed bedroom.
