Why, just why
Did I fall twice
for my best friend,
who's an irresponsible idiot
and frankly not a perfect match.
My heart and my brain are at odds
I'm making sure my brain is winning
although it hurts me to say no for the umpteenth time.
You'll always be my best friend
first and foremost
above all else
even developing a crush again.
My parents disapprove,
but say I'm entitled to my own mistakes
so here we are going on just a couple dates.
Just one more date before the thirteenth
before I start college without you.
A clean slate.
I'll go out with other people
and try to step away
from your arms that feel like home.
I don't know what I'll do
if I fall for you yet again
I don't think I'd have the strength to pull away
once again.
Sugarcube I hope my heart can slip away
but still be your best friend for all our days,
I want to be the best man at your wedding
when you finally mature.
It's hard to tell you no again
