Connor P.O.V.
I actually woke up an hour ago but still couldn't find the strength to even open my eyelids. Everything feels so heavy so... hollow.
"I- I am to- blame... I never protected her like- like I should have. I was her brother. Do I deserve to be? it- it should have been me who understood her and stayed b- by her side but... I- I was blinded by the need to become beta. I - I was blinded by power.
STUPID POWER!!! I WOULD GIVE UP ALL MY POWER TO HAVE HER BACK! But- I... I....
I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Forgive me. I'm so sorry. I-"
Devon P.O.V.
I heard muffled cries... it sounds like...
Is that Connor?!... he's... crying?... whose he talking to?
'Hey Fenris, who else is there-"
A few moments of silence passed by...
... Oh yeah... I forgot... Is she really gone for good?
I felt something wet trickle down my cheek. Wait... am I crying?
Third P.O.V
[four months later]
What happened these past four months might you ask? Well as decreed by the prince in his second letter almost all the teenagers left up to those aged 35. The pack had literally been divided into half its original size.
From time to time. Pack members would also come back one by one saying they had failed the program. Some would come back with only a few scratches but most would come back with gigantic scabs of what will soon be scars.
During the first month the warriors had come to train what's left of the pack. Who was left behind? Well. The children of course, Ms. Hana since they needed to be taken care of, the alpha – Devon, the new beta – Connor, the pack elders as well as the previous beta – John – Connor's father to help the two boys manage the pack, Angela – the pack witch, Alfred – the pack doctor, and Kristie – the temporary Luna.
Kristie the temporary Luna? Why? Did she just not want to train? Did she just want to have the power of being Luna? Actually it's not like that at all.
She still trains with all the others; actually she trains twice if not thrice as hard as the others. Power? No, Being the Luna, she just wanted to help Devon with the once towering papers that only the alpha and his Luna can touch, and maintaining the discipline of the pack.
Actually everyone voted her as their Luna, though it can only be temporary, but that was what they wanted.
After the letter was read out to the pack a few days after Devon's birthday, Kristie helped everyone in almost everything. She did the shopping, cleaned the house, washed the clothes, helps Hana cook the meals, visited the children and played with them; she even learned how to treat both minor and major wounds to help Dr. Alfred since training meant more cuts and bruises, as well as more accidents since anything could happen if you are tired or/and have a sprain or two.
She didn't really want to be Luna, not anymore, but then she saw this as a chance to help Devon. Truly she was a blessing to the pack.
She's a super human you say? Nah, she overworked herself at least two times and was scolded for it, but she still continued to be a busy buddy like an idiot. She also had a few accidents here and there.
One time, she almost fell into the washing machine, if Connor hadn't been there to catch the sleeping beauty, she would have drowned of something in that soapy water. This also led her to sleeping like a rock at night. She's not a goddess or anything so of course she's not perfect.
But it was enough to make everyone like her. Well...not everyone that is. For some reason, Devon would no longer talk to her unless necessary, or to anyone for that matter. She still loves him of course, but it was more like a love given to a family member or an old friend.
She could no longer bring herself to love him the way she once did knowing that... he could never be hers.
By the second month, everyone had found out that their alpha can no longer contact his wolf. Of course they don't know why but they were sure it was because he did something absolutely wrong. No one really looked at him as an alpha anymore.
For a month they seemed to even despise him but then it cooled down, now they just look at him with pity. The boy that once held himself in high esteem and radiated of power and confidence was now nothing but the shell of a body.
Secretly everyone wished that he would go back to being what he once was. Sure he was a jerk but he was still alive.
Living is different from existing.
Connor P.O.V.
So many things have happened, for one, I've lost my best friend. My sister, Adeline, went to that stupid training program, and I have been continuously searching for my little sis, Rose. She said not to look for her but I just cannot stay still until I know for sure that she is safe.
That she is not dead in a ditch or on the side of a road in god knows where.
I never printed any lost posters though since that would be easy to catch on (by the pack "Hana, the elders, Dev, ...") and what if by doing so I would put her in an even more dangerous situation.
I also learned that Kristie was actually serious when she said that she loved Devon. Seriously I thought she only wanted the Luna spot but I was wrong. Shes actually way purer than all those other girls. And why I thought so? Well, it was the day after Devon and I got into the big fight.
[Flashback]
I went back to my room after crying in front of Ms. Hana. She offered to get some food for me to eat but I declined since I doubt I would be able to eat anything. I got onto the bed and reached to my wrist to take of my watch but I just touched my own skin.
Where's my watch? Maybe I left it in the clinic.
Exasperated, I got off my bed and headed back to the clinic I reached over to the door knob but then I realized that the door was already slightly open. I also heard some footsteps coming from inside.
Looking through the tiny space left by the door, I saw Devon slightly shaking, and sweating profusely. Slightly to the left there was another silhouette I recognized as Kristie. She must have just wanted to take advantage of him in his sleep.
I was just about to step in and stop her from doing so but then... she just sat down on the chair beside the bed and held his hand... from time to time she would soak and wring out the face towel in the small water filled basin, and dab it on his face and neck to take care of the sweating and to cool him down a little before setting it gently on his head.
I went back to my room thinking that I could just get my watch tomorrow and surely she would leave soon.
The next day came but it was about 4:30 in the morning. Really early I know but I couldn't sleep at all thinking about... everything.
I went back to the clinic to get my watch back but what I didn't believe was that Kristie was still there. she was still sitting on that same chair but her head was already rested on top of one arm on the bed. She must have fallen asleep and fallen forwards.
Also... she was holding his hand. Did she stay here the entire night?
This girl...
A ghost of a smile made its way onto my lips as I got an extra blanket and placed it over her shoulders. I tucked a few strands of hair that had fallen to her face, behind her ears.
