"NO, NO!!! PLEASE DON'T STOP WHIPPING." she begs "I WANT TO FEEL MORE PAIN. I WANT TO BLEED AS BAD AS I DID WHENEVER MR. NAN WHIPPED ME. PLEASE HURT ME MORE."
Her Uncle doesn't change his stoic expression. "Xia Lan-"
"DON'T CALL ME THAT!!!!!! I'M LAN XIAN XIA, NOT XIA LAN!!!!!!" She screams maniacally, then starts chuckling. She starts to laugh louder and louder. The Uncle sees how broken her spirit really is. He sighs.
"Xia Lan, Mr. Nan is gone, and so is Lan Xian Xia. You are Xia Lan now and YOU WILL help me take over the Middle Realm after you absorb the Spirit Jade."
Xia Lan was shocked awake out of her manic state.
"W-what?" she says weakly. She realized what she was doing, and her eyes widened. Tears fell down her face, cold and swift. "Sorry," she says quietly. Her uncle takes the chains off her hands and says
"The Spirit Jade is divided into three pieces. I only have one with me. The other thirds are in the Upper Realm and the Lower Realm."
"So I just go there and get the two other pieces?" she asked once freed from the chains.
"No. To be able to go to either realm, you need to be able to cultivate."
"What?"
" Cultivating your body is when you-"
"I know what cultivation is. I read enough books about it in my past life. But, cultivation isn't real."
"Reincarnation isn't real either, but you somehow did it, right?"
"..."
"To cultivate, you need to first be able to attain a state of Nirvana, which, obviously, you won't be able to do, because of your mental instability."
"Are you sure, Uncle? When I finally left Mr. Nan, I had to go through depression. Depression is a terrible state of calm. It's an emptiness, devoid of any emotion. It's when you're detached from reality as if it can't affect you anymore. That is the very essence of Nirvana, don't you think?"

KingFoxJellyfish It was kinda hard to write about my main character being broken by her past, but it was necessary for the plot.

Also, the depression, I described how it was like for me when I went through it. If you feel offended, please don't. Depression is different for everybody, and a cold emptiness is how I felt it.
