Arena #1 was a built to replicate a huge city, with giant buildings and houses, making it into a huge maze that contestants would have to traverse if they wanted to find the robots needed to gain points. Along with the ten minute time limit, the exam was designed to weed out the weak quirks and those not suited for being heroes. Though it wasnt a total foolproof way of finding powerful students, it was actually quite effective when it came down to it. The ones who passed the exam were the ones who used a combination of speed, power, and strategy to rack up the most points.
The problem with this was that Tora didnt want to use his ability to sabotage the others, but only because Ochako had taken off along with the crowd and was looking for other robots as he stood near the entrance. Tora hadn't sprinted off into the maze like everyone else had, but instead waited for the others to rush ahead before running after them. The problem was that he couldn't use his swords based on what Aria had said....to not use them unless protecting something important. He had always been an obedient kid, only disobeying when his sense of what was right completely took over everything else.
As he ran, he mulled over different ideas that could help him fight the robots when he ran into one. He had been running for about thirty seconds when he came upon his first robot, a deep green colored droid with the number 2 painted on top of its head. This robot was worth two points and was only a medium on level of difficulty, but Tora wasnt focused on that. What he was focused on was the plan that had popped into his head upon seeing the robot, a plan that would probably work if he did it all to the letter.
The robot, after rolling out from the side of a house, seemed to lock on him rather quickly before turning and skidding towards him, its tire treads racing across the road as it rapidly approached Tora's location. Tora, having already decided on a strategy, merely stayed where he was, his body crouched low in preparation for his next movement.
The robot drove forward, clearly not stopping as it raised its arm and threw it downwards towards the young man. However, Tora already been prepared for this and jumped up, allowing the claw to hit the ground in front of him. After the claw hit, Tora, who was still in the air, landed on the robots arm and ran up it, moving the aqua sheathed sword from his back into his hands.
The robot hadn't exactly stopped after it had swiped at him and was still going, but Tora was still able to nail the tip of the sheath into the unguarded neck of the robot, creating a deep hole where he jabbed. After accomplishing this Tora leaped off as the robot continued its momentum before completely falling over onto the floor.
"Well that was surprisingly more difficult then I thought, especially the jumping part." Tora turned around to look at the robot as he slid the sword to rest diagonally against his back. "These two swords together are really heavy. Lets find another robot to destroy."
This went in for seven more minutes, Tora finding robots and beating them with strikes to the back of the neck. His score was at about twenty when there was deep rumbling inside of the earth, a feeling that he was quickly beginning to hate. Nearby, about two or three blocks down, he saw multiple people beginning to run, but in the opposite direction of the giant thing that was rising out of the ground. Tora thought the thing was pretty huge, but it just kept getting bigger and bigger until it towered over every other building in the entire city.
Going over information in his head, Tora quickly remembered that there was one robot that they were supposed avoid, one that was worth zero points, a sort of obstacle that was simply meant to distract them.
"There are two minutes left in the exam, you better hurry it up!" The voice of Present Mic spread throughout the entire arena, louder then even the sound of the giant robot now making its way down the block.
"Well, its not my problem," Tora said as he turned to run away along with everyone else. However, he had taken about three steps when he heard a scream of pain followed by a shout for help. Tora, who had been about to break into a flatout sprint, stopped in his tracks and turned on his heels, just looking to seen what had happened.
Across the block, underneath the debris caused by the collosal robot, was Ochako. It seemed that she was attempting to free her leg from a large rock which had pinned it down to the floor. However, Tora was sure she'd be fine since she had the power of some sort of levitation, he was certain that she could get herself out of it.
However, when he turned around to run away along with the others, his legs refused to move as if they were stuck to the ground. Closing his eyes, Tora cursed underneath his breath before turning around and sprinting the way he came and , rather then heading for the trapped Ochako, he ran straight towards the giant robot.
As he ran, the words of Aria ran through his head. "It doesn't necessarily matter what your protecting but that your simply fighting to protect, and once you decide on what you want to protect, make sure that you commit to it." As the words rang through his head, he finally unsheathed the two swords and held them to his sides as he ran.
As he neared the robot, something began to pour into his body, giving strength to his legs, and screaming at him to jump. Crouching in the middle of his run, Tora lept upwards and was propelled high into the sky, stopping just in the middle of the giant robot.
The two swords began to glow, swirling with black and aqua colored energy as Tora pulled back and narrowed his eyes in determination. "Your shall not proceed!!! Take this strike that shall be named later!!" Tora slashed forward, the energy that had been surrounding the swords being released in a slash of light that spread and completely sliced through the giant robot as if it was made of butter. The slashes formed an X shape over the robots chest as it carved it into four pieces.
This would've been cool for Tora but he had his own worries to deal with. Immediately after releasing that blast of power, he had lost all the energy in his body and not just the extra bit he had recieved for the jump, but even the energy he used to power his quirk was now completely empty. He could feel himself on the verge of passing out, but he forced himself to remain awake as the ground approached him at a rapid speed.
He tried to rack his brain over a potential fix to the problem, but wasn't really able to find any, and it seemed as if he was fated to become a smear on the pavement. However, it seemed that fate was kind, in a rather weird way, because just as he was about to hit the ground he was smacked across the face very hard. While this didnt seem like a big deal and it even knocked him unconscious, it was what saved him as he hovered in the air instead of smashing into the pavement.
Ochako, who was floating on a chunk of debris, puts the tips of her fingers together and uttered the word 'release' which dropped both the debris and Tora onto the ground. Ochako proceeded to hurl over the side of the rock she was on.
"And that concludes the practical exam," Present Mic exclaimed in his usual radio show host voice. "Everybody please make your way back to the entrance for your scores, thank you."
However everyone in arena 1 was now moving to surround the unconscious Tora lying on the ground with his two glowing swords a couple feet away.
"Did you see that?" One examinee asked, clearly in awe. "He sliced that giant robot in half with some sort of attack. Thats some quirk he's got."
"Yeah but he does know that that robot was worth zero points right?" Another examinee said with confusion. "Even if it was pretty cool, its useless if its worth zero points."
"You guys just dont understand the magnitude of what he did though." A young man with glasses explained. "He risked his own chances at winning to help someone else instead of trying to raise his own score. He acted like a true hero, and I'm sure that will be taken into account during the final scoring."
Everyone from the exam had now arrived and were surrounding Tora from all sides, and attention eventually shifted to the topic of the two glowing swords still laying on the floor near him. The black sword and the aqua sword no longer had swirls of energy around them, but they still steadily hummed softly as if they were alive.
"So are these the swords that he used to beat that giant robot?" asked a female as she attempted to pick up the aqua colored sword. However, she hadnt even been able to wrap her hand around the grip before there was a zap and she instantly dropped it.
"Don't touch those swords," came an elderly voice. "Their quite dangerous if they dont recognize you as someone whose worthy." A short elderly woman walked into the center and stepped over the black sword. "This young boy is quite special to be able to wield these two swords, but they do come with a price. However I won't discuss it with mere children such as yourselves."
The elder woman stretched out her lips and gave Tora a big kiss to the side of his head. The bruises to the body began to fade, the scratches disappeared, and even the scars vanished from view. It quickly became clear what the womans quirk was and everyone there decided not to get on her bad side.
"Now for those who are able bodied, I want this body brought up to the infirmary so.I can examine him." Taking the towel from around her neck, she tossed it to Ochako. "Use that to place the sword back into its sheath but he careful because the slightest touch of your skin will give you a very bad zap."
lets be honest........the part where Deku punched the big robot was one of the best scenes in the anime....at least to me which is why I had Tora do the same but in a different way
Also if you like the novel so far them make sure to drop a REVIEW, comment, or powerstone on your way out
By the way............in my opinion, the Yin Yang swords are awesome!!!!
