INT. EVE'S HOME - EVE'S BIRTHDAY
Luzy, Cael and Eve sit in a circle, while Eve's fidgeting around, Luzy mood grows increasingly dark.
LUZY
Eve, what day is it?
EVE
Uhm, thursday?
LUZY
Yes, no, that's not it, it's your birthday, damn it, it's a special occasion, you know that? then how come we are only three people here?
CAEL
Eh, have you invited more people?
LUZY
Of course I did, I invited everyone we have met.
CAEL
Really, and it didn't come to your mind that they might not show up, since they don't know you well?
LUZY
Huh, why? never stopped others to come to my parties.
CAEL
Well, you are kinda special.
EVE
I'm actually more surprised that you came, Cael.
CAEL
It's no big deal, we are friends after all.
EVE
I was really surprised in general, that Luzy had planned the whole party.
LUZY
(sullen)
It's not a party, if it's just the three of us.
EVE
Come on, that just means there's way more cake for us. Let me get some plates.
Eve runs to the kitchen, leaving Luzy and Cael alone. With no conversation to strike up, an awkward silence reigns over them. Their eyes meet as they cautiously glance at each other, only to swiftly shake their heads away and hoping the other hadn't noticed.
CAEL
Uhm, I have a question for you.
LUZY
Oh, really? shoot.
CAEL
After everything, that had happened between you and Eve, after everything you guys have been through, how have you been holding up.
LUZY
Uh, why would you ask that?
CAEL
No special reason, I just realized that I was so caught up knowing the whole story, I never asked how you were feeling through the whole ordeal.
LUZY
How am I feeling, I guess, conflicted or something like that. It's been a while, since it happened, I think I'm just glad that it has ended.
CAEL
I see. (beat) You know, there was one part of the story, that I never quite understood.
Eve walks over with some plates.
CAEL (CONT'D)
Are you really a lesbian?
But they fall out of her hands.
EVE
Cael!
CAEL
What, just wanted to be sure.
EVE
Is it because of me? I thought we had that talk before.
CAEL
No, it's because of something else.
LUZY
Now, why would you ask that?
CAEL
Hmm, my suspicions started when you told me your story that other day, ah Eve, get over here, this might be important for you too.
LUZY
What about my story.
CAEL
Well, that guy you told me about, something didn't seem right about him.
LUZY
There was a lot that wasn't right about him.
CAEL
Ah, I phrased it wrong, I meant his actions.
LUZY
What did he do?
CAEL
He confessed to you. Why would he do that? As your close friend, he should have definitely known about your preferences. But he still chose to do that, in fact, he even got mad, when you rejected him. Weird, right?
LUZY
So what? That doesn't mean anything.
CAEL
So that means there's a contradiction in your story. I am not saying that you are lying, but it doesn't make any sense. It's a plot hole, a glitch in the matrix. Either that, or you aren't actually a lesbian.
LUZY
But, I could also be bisexual, or not?
CAEL
Nope, you would have introduced yourself as one, if that was true.
LUZY
Ugh.
CAEL
Then I began to think about different possibilities and different outcomes. What if you are lesbian, but you never told him? What if you aren't lesbian and he knew? They all only lead me to one ending, though.
LUZY
Ending, what ending?
CAEL
they never did find the killer, right?
LUZY
Wait, you mean?
CAEL
Suppose you slowly began falling in love with the sister, what would the guy think? How would he compete against a woman? Wouldn't it be over for him, if that happened?
LUZY
Such a thing, it's, it's impossible.
CAEL
It is of course only a theory, I got no proof after all. However, if it was the truth, that would be really unfortunate.
LUZY
What are you implying?
CAEL
Let's forget about the sister for now.
EVE
Excuse me?
CAEL
Let's talk about the situation now. I don't know whether you are really a lesbian or not, but I know the consequences about you being so vague about it. Eve, you too. Both of you are hiding, behind a facade, a persona, a world you created in your mind. But what has it done, other than hurt those around you.
LUZY
I-.
CAEL
I know it's not enough to convince you, and this might not be the best line, but I know how you feel, I really do. You told me so much, I think I should tell you something to. Remember my mother?
LUZY
Mhm.
CAEL
I told you about the lie. It was nothing fancy, but it was maybe the worst thing I could have done. (beat) I told her, that I loved her. (beat) I told myself that I loved her. Always like a chant, I repeated it in my head, soon, I made myself think that I do. But the bitter truth is, that I didn't.
LUZY
Ah, oh.
CAEL
As slowly as I told myself that I like her, I started detesting her at the same time. Those feelings that welled up inside me felt stifling, and like a dam, it slowly exploded, and all that pent up anger I let out on my mother. How devastated she must have felt, that her own loving son turned out to be me.
LUZY
Well, uhm, I'm sorry.
CAEL
Don't be, we are in the same boat after all. There's much of a difference between the past me and you. If you are that sorry, change yourself first. Face the truth, face it the way it is. What are you waiting for?
LUZY
i don't think I can.
CAEL
Sure you can, in your mind, you must have thought about it endlessly, right? I know you did, we are the same after all, let me give you a small push - tell me are you really a lesbian?
LUZY
I-I'm n-.
EVE
Enough.
LUZY
Eve?
EVE
What does it matter, what does all of it matter? Can't you see that everything is already over, we are long past what happened, and aren't we happy. Why is it bad to hide, can't you see that we are happy?
Astonished, Luzy looks at Eve, before she calms down again.
LUZY
And that's how it is Cael. Could you leave us alone for a moment?
CAEL
Okay, I understand.
