Capítulo 18: The Katana's Out of the Sheath

With so many zombies swarming towards them from the front, Alex and Jay had to alternate reloading time to stop the zombies from getting too close to them. Everyone needs personal space, more so in a case like an apocalypse.

At the worst time possible, a "clank" sound came from Alex's Kriss Vector.

"Reloading!" Alex shouted and went to retrieve a clip from Jay's backpack. In a panic seeing the zombies inching forward more, his hand slipped, losing the grip on the clip as he tried to shove it into the gun.

"I'm almost out too!" Counting as he was shooting, Jay also warned that he was only on a few bullets left before having to reload. "Can one of you guys cover the front for a second!"

"No! They are also getting close at the back!"

"Busy! They all got over the fence and are climbing up now, I need to stay to pin them down!"

Both the back and side were in a stressful situation, unable to reinforce the front. At this urgent situation, if one side gives in, then all sides would fall.

Jay's mind was quickly spinning, trying to figure out the best solution as he counted down his last few bullets.

There were simply too many zombies, and as he emptied the last round in his clip, Alex only had time to grab a second clip but didn't have time to reload it in. He immediately took out his shotgun, firing the shells as he grabbed more from his pocket to load them in.

However, panicking, he didn't place the next set in properly, causing a jam at the hole he fed the ammunition in.

"F*ck!" Knowing full well that his screw-up just f*cked the entire group over, he could only drop his backpack full of ammo for Jay, grab the shotgun by its barrel, raising it over the arm, preparing to jump down to use it as a melee weapon.

He wasn't dumb. He knew full well what the consequence would be in the next few seconds if he were to ran down the roof swinging a shotgun in his hand.

With 4 to 5 zombies coming up together at once, he would be tackled up into pieces probably right after one or two swings and chewed up into pieces.

He only wished that he could buy some time for Jay to reload. If only he could buy them a few more seconds, Alex thought, just a few seconds so Jay could finish reloading.

He didn't mind dying first since they would all be dead if he didn't try to buy some time, and that was all he was thinking in his mind. It was to just buy a few seconds for Jay. He would be happier dying, knowing that his brothers might be able to survive because of his sacrifice.

As Alex was dropping his bag and raising his shotgun, Jay was anxiously reloading, but he could see what Alex was planning in that head.

Jay was the only one with a melee weapon on him, and he was also the big brother of the group. To just watch his little brother sacrifice himself in front of him was completely unacceptable. Knowing that he wouldn't be able to just sit back and watch, he dropped the gun, pulled out his katana, jumped in front of Alex and charged down the roof.

"Use my M4!" He shouted as the moonlight reflected off the purple edge of his katana.

Alex's eyes welled with tears... He knew that if he didn't hesitate, Jay wouldn't have gotten the opportunity to charge into the zombies in his place. His big brother had always been like this. They all grew up without parents, so the older brother basically assumed the paternal role, internalizing the responsibility of looking after the younger ones.

Alex knew he couldn't fail his brothers again, and he immediately picked up the M4 left on the ground by Jay and began reloading.

Having learned how to fight with a katana before plus having a higher position advantage, Jay opened the battle with a downward strike as he jumped off the highest level of the roof to the garage top off slightly to the left of the house, trying to drag the zombies further away from the center where Alex was.

A zombie's head was immediately splashed open from Jay's downward cut, with the blade smoothly exiting the neck of the zombie.

This was Jay's first time consciously cutting the zombie open, and to be honest, he was quite shocked by the fact that he was met with little to no resistance.

Four other zombies immediately charged towards Jay, trying to siege him but were met with a brutal horizontal cut.

The zombies' heads were detached from their bodies as the blade slashed through their throats, blood gushing out as they heavily fell and rolled down the roof. The first wave of zombies, downed by two strikes.

Alex was actually completely dumbfounded at the scene, and he almost forgot what he was doing until his hands subconsciously finished loading the ammunition.

"Jay, I got it reloaded! Come back!"

"Go f*cking load the other one too! I don't want to come back just to jump down after one clip!"

"Oh sh*t, you are right!" At that, Alex hurriedly picked up his Kriss Vector and began reloading that as well. Above the garage roof, Jay charged at the second wave that seemed to have ignored him and were running straight towards the top at Alex.
