Walking down the silent pathway, the crystals which were dimly illuminated glows even brighter whenever they pass by. Dark knight remained silent along the way, camouflaging along the walls to minimise his presence.
"Kinuthia, just what is it that you expect from me and why did you even choose to tell me the truth so openly? Aren't you afraid that I'll make use of this chance to kill all three of you and return home with a perfect conquest?" Nightin asks along the way, concealing his crafty smile.
"I don't have a choice, I'm doing this for Jade. This problem had been on her mind since that event and it had been haunting her up till now, but I won't ever allow her to end her bond with us." Kinuthia said, determination flashing in his eyes.
Making a right turn based on where Kinuthia was leading, Nightin asks another question "But I don't think that it's a good idea for you to be going against Jade's wishes, maybe she has her own reasons for not even attempting to make a last stand against that existence."
"It's because you don't know her well enough, the only reason she's doing this is because she's afraid that she'll be putting our lives in danger if she does so." Kinuthia answered as his footsteps quickened, leaving Nightin some distance away from him.
"Don't try to hide from me. Also, I keep my promises and since I've agreed to help you, I'll stick to my end of the deal." Nightin answered as he caught up from behind, his servant dark knight following closely behind but hiding his presence among the passageway built of stone.
"Thinking about it, did you arrange for this passageway to be built this nicely or was it already like this by the time you occupied it?" Realising that the quality of material was improving as they walked down, Nightin decided to ask the question even though it might be impolite.
"No, we only occupied this palace built in the tunnels by a stroke of luck. We have several guesses before, but we had no way to prove any of those theories and soon dropped them since they were of minor importance. The past is the past after all."
Hearing Kinuthia's explanation, Nightin's face turned solemn as he scanned his surroundings, paying an extreme amount of attention to each and every detail that he should, such as the pattern for change in material and how they were combined so nicely to not show any distinct changes and exhibit royalty over anything else.
It's not just royalty, the further they went, the higher the rank of nobility the materials used to make the passageway changes. From mundane wood to iron to silver, gold and even diamond.
"We have arrived at the core area of the palace, the place in which we will be meeting Jade and Kamau to settle things once and for all." The more Kinuthia tries to make it sound like nothing much, the more he reveals the fragile side he has in himself as a bandit.
"Have you ever wondered about why people like me who detest killing commit crimes such as murder?" Kinuthia asks all of a sudden, right when they were about to arrive at the final destination.
"It's nothing unique, killing is someone all would have done the moment they step onto the path of cultivation. We are no different from mortals of the mundane world. We kill out of greed, to seek revenge and for the sake of pleasure or desperation. It's not the world that we have to blame, it all originated from one corrupted human who started all this, but what's done can never be changed and all we can do is look forward and be that one cultivator that makes the world a better place for everyone."
Nightin may still be young, only eighteen years old, the age where one truly starts to understand the world, but he has already comprehended what it means to live in this cruel world, something which even those with one foot set into the grave can't understand up till this point.
"How… Just how do you know so much about the world already? I'm already thirty years old already and the only purpose I see in living is to continue spending time with this family I've built up over the years." Kinuthia stammered as he spoke, his voice quivering as he took gulps of saliva one after the other.
"From now on, I'll give you another reason to live. Join my sect and take up the role of prison warden." Nightin states simply, him walking away shows his intention to not bring up the matter again until all this is over at the very least.
Haha, to think that I can't even compare to a brat who's still this young. Kinuthia mocks himself as he catches up by speeding his footsteps, not realising that a pair of eyes have been staring at him from behind this whole time.
"Seems like I have to act now and seize the soul of this young lad first before things escalate further." The existence speaks to itself as a phantom hand reaches out for Kinuthia, oblivious to the fact that the dark knight is actually nearby as a sudden blade slices from the darkness and destroys the arm silently.
Teleporting ahead of Nightin, dark knight reports anxiously "General, we have to leave here immediately before things get any worse. That existence is already on the lookout for us and have already attempted a failed ambush. I may be confident of defeating it without much trouble, but I'll be left helpless if it attempts to attack you guys as I've only been taught offensive tactics and attack patterns, even combat itself in an unfamiliar thing to me."
"That's enough, get back to your position." Upon hearing Nightin's order, the dark knight immediately did as instructed after sensing the raging flames that were coming from Nightin.
"Just what in the world happened? Just how did the hand suddenly lose vision with me all of a sudden and why am I unable to sense it at all!" The existence screams in anger as he vomited blood from his mouth, the lashback of a phantom attack causing extreme pain in his palm which leads to every single nerf in his body.
"If I figure out who you are, I'll make sure to rip your bones and skins alive to take revenge." The existence curses as his body slumps onto the ground weakly, but greed consumes his mental state and common sense as he soon mistakes dark knight for a treasure which he covets now, he may be a Demigod, but he lacks a suitable defensive treasure and if…
"Who is it at the doorstep?" Jade asks behind her closed chambers, sitting down on her bed slumped against her pillow to rest, her body covered behind the pink curtains which failed to block her melodic voice from travelling past the chambers.
"Jade, it's me! The existence has already discovered us and is on the chase for us!" Hearing Kinuthia's voice, Jade was about to chase him away only to be shocked by the second part of his sentence as she quickly got up and unlocked the chamber, her eyes demanding an answer as she grabs Kinuthia by the shoulder and slams him onto the ground.
"We have no choice, there's no way I'll leave you alone by yourself." Kinuthia smiles as he slowly picks himself off the ground, walking towards Jade weakly with his limp legs as he struggles for each and every single step.
Despite Jade's efforts to hide the pain on her face, it was still crystal clear to Nightin who was spectating from the sidelines.
"Get out now! From now on, we have no more ties to do with each other!" Jade shouts coldly as the chamber doors open, a gust of cold wind sweeping up from the bedroom floor to send Kinuthia out against his own will, only for her to drop him onto the ground.
"How long more do you need to accept my love for you?" Kinuthia's sudden question caused Jade to freeze on the spot as her magic spell ended up failing as she asked back, clearly knowing the question and answer "What did you just say?"
"I just said that I've been in love with you ever since a long time ago and that my life for you won't ever die out no matter how much time passes. As long as you are single for one day, then I'll chase you for one more day until I finally pull you into my embrace as we spend the rest of our lives somewhere to live a peaceful life, one away for the struggles and war of the world so that we can enjoy a honeymoon time together."
"Jade, please don't leave me will you?"
Even though it was the same question, Jade could feel the defenses in her heart crumbling as two words gently leak out of her mind against her will.
"I won't leave."
The two words were simple, but they were just like the thunder that went boom in Kinuthia's mind as he stood rooted to the spot, only to see a figure wearing a blue sleepless made of opaque ice that was warm plastering his moist, red lips onto his as they hooked their arms around each other into a embrace.
