"The feeling is mutual, Xu Shu, I hope we can exchange some knowledge concerning human nature," Zhuge Liang replied. As the three young scholars began to interact with each other, Sima Hui from the side observed the conversation and saw how Zhuge Liang could keep up with his apprentice, he felt that Zhuge Liang could be a valuable addition to the group of apprentices under him, he had the talent and he had a feeling that he will become one of the best in this era.

Zhuge Liang, Pang Tong, and Xu Shu exchanged a few more words, their mutual respect and curiosity evident in their conversation. Eventually, they turned to face Sima Hui, who had been observing them with a serene smile.

"Come," Sima Hui said, his voice gentle but firm. "Let us move to a more secluded area where we can continue our discussions in peace."

He led them through a winding path that gradually ascended a mountainside. Zhuge Liang was intrigued, noting the tranquility and natural beauty of the surroundings. After a short walk, they arrived at a small, hidden village nestled in the mountains.

Zhuge Liang's eyes widened in surprise. "This is where you reside, Master Sima Hui?" he asked, taking in the simple yet harmonious setting.

Sima Hui nodded. "Yes, this is where I have chosen to live and teach. It is away from the chaos of the world, a place where one can focus on knowledge and reflection, where one could reach an inner peace."

As they walked through the village, Zhuge Liang noticed modest houses, a small garden, and a flowing stream. The atmosphere was calm and conducive to learning.

Sima Hui guided them to a pavilion by the stream, where they could sit and continue their discussion. Sima Hui takes a seat followed by Xu Shu and Panh Tong who sit at his left and right, as for Zhuge Liang he sits across the three of them.

"Now that we are here," Sima Hui began, "we can delve deeper into the matters at hand. Zhuge Liang, you have shown great promise. I believe you have the potential to become one of the finest minds of our time. Pang Tong and Xu Shu will be your peers, and together you will learn and grow under my tutelage."

Pang Tong smiled, his eyes gleaming with enthusiasm. "I look forward to our time together, Zhuge Liang. There is much we can learn from each other."

Xu Shu nodded in agreement. "Indeed. Our combined knowledge and perspectives that are shared between us will help us in our learning."

Zhuge Liang felt a deep sense of gratitude and determination. "Thank you, Master Sima Hui. I am honored to be here and to have the opportunity to learn under you alongside Pang Tong and Xu Shu. I will do my best to live up to your expectations."

Sima Hui smiled warmly. "I have no doubt that you will, Zhuge Liang. Now, let us begin our study. The world outside may be filled with turmoil, but here, we will find peace, clarity, and wisdom."

Over the next few days, Zhuge Liang immersed himself in study and discussion with Pang Tong and Xu Shu. They explored various topics, from strategy and governance to philosophy and human nature.

The environment, combined with the guidance of Sima Hui, allowed Zhuge Liang to refine his skills and deepen his understanding of the knowledge he gained, and gaining new knowledge.

Over the next few days, Zhuge Liang immersed himself in study and discussion with Pang Tong and Xu Shu. They explored various topics, from strategy and governance to philosophy and human nature.

The environment, combined with the guidance of Sima Hui, allowed Zhuge Liang to refine his skills deepen his understanding of the knowledge he gained, and gain new knowledge.

One afternoon, as Zhuge Liang was poring over a scroll on ancient military tactics, Sima Hui approached him with a thoughtful expression. "Zhuge Liang," he began, "there are two of my oldest friends you should meet. Their wisdom and experience surpass even my own in certain areas."

Zhuge Liang looked up, intrigued. "Who are they, Master?" as he asked Sima Hui, Zhuge Liang put down the scroll in his hand at the table in front of him.

Sima Hui smiled. "Pang Degong and Huang Chengyan. Both have spent many years studying the ways of the world and the nature of men. Their guidance will be of great benefit to you."

Later that day, Sima Hui brought Zhuge Liang to a secluded part of the village, where two elderly men were engaged in a quiet conversation.

The first, with a dignified presence and piercing eyes, was Pang Degong. The other, with a calm demeanor and an air of profound wisdom, was Huang Chengyan.

Pang Degong noticed their approach and smiled warmly. "Old Hui, it has been some time. And this must be the young prodigy you have taken under your wing."

Sima Hui nodded. "Yes, this is Zhuge Liang. He has already shown great promise, especially in military strategy, governance, and philosophy."

Zhuge Liang bowed deeply. "It is an honor to meet you, Master Pang Degong and Master Huang Chengyan. I have long heard of your esteemed names alongside My Master."

Huang Chengyan gestured for Zhuge Liang to sit. "Come, young man. Let us see what you have learned so far from Old Hui and your past tutors who taught you."

Listening to the words that Huang Chengyan said, Sima Hui acts offended at the words of his old friend, "Old Huang what do you mean by saying that? Are you saying that my teaching wasn't as good as before?"

"Haha! Old Huang look at what you have done, you made Old Hui angry, looks like you need to open your old wine to apologize!", Pang Degong laughed out loud after hearing what Sima Hui said while teasing Huang Chengyan.

Huang Chenguan doesn't panic hearing what Pang Degong said but responds with some words that illicit a laugh from both Pang Degong and Sima Hui, as the three shared a good laugh.

Zhuge Liang stood flabbergasted from the side, surprised at how ordinary the interaction between the three most admired reclusive scholars was, he thought they would interact very differently from other people but it looked like he was wrong.

The three old scholars soon realized that there was a newcomer in their midst and seeing the surprised expression etched on Zhuge Liang's face, they just smiled and used this moment to sometimes tease Zhuge Liang in the future.

"Ahem... Well then young Zhuge come here, I apologize for the scene you just saw. Let's start the discussion we going to hold before." Embarrassed, Huang Chengyang let out a cough before calling for Zhuge Liang to begin their discussion.

In the next few hours, Zhuge Liang engaged in lively discussions with Pang Degong and Huang Chengyan. They shared their knowledge on a variety of subjects, from the intricacies of statecraft to the subtleties of human nature.

Pang Degong spoke at length about the importance of understanding one's enemy and allies in either battlefield or court politics, while Huang Chengyan emphasized the need for moral integrity and the art of persuasion, as well as the importance of craftsmanship which could train someone's patience.

Zhuge Liang was captivated by their insights. He asked thoughtful questions, eagerly absorbing the wisdom they imparted. The two elder scholars were impressed by his curiosity and depth of understanding.

"Young Zhuge," Pang Degong said, "you remind me of myself in my youth. The world is vast and filled with challenges, but with your talent and dedication, you will navigate it well."

Huang Chengyan nodded in agreement. "Indeed. Remember, true wisdom comes from not just knowledge, but understanding how to apply it. Always seek to learn, and never be afraid to question what you see or hear."

As the sun began to set, Zhuge Liang felt a deep sense of gratitude. "Thank you, Masters. Your guidance has been invaluable. I will try to apply what both of you have given to me."

Sima Hui, who had been quietly observing, spoke up. "You have done well, Zhuge Liang. I permitted you to seek out Old Huang and Old Pang to learn from them, of course, whether they agree or not it's up to them."

Zhuge Liang bowed deeply to Sima Hui. "Thank you, Master Sima, for permitting me to seek the guidance of Masters Pang and Huang in the future. I will cherish this gift."

Sima Hui nodded, a serene smile on his face. "You have shown great potential, Zhuge Liang. Continue to grow, learn, and understand the knowledge you seek and have, you will become one of the best in this era."

Zhuge Liang turned to Pang Degong and Huang Chengyan, who had remained silent, their expressions unreadable. He bowed to them as well. "Masters Pang and Huang, I hope to learn more from you in the future. I am deeply grateful for your time and wisdom today."

Pang Degong and Huang Chengyan exchanged a glance, but neither spoke. Their silence left Zhuge Liang uncertain, yet he knew that he must respect their decision, whatever it might be.

As the evening grew darker, Sima Hui and Zhuge Liang made their way back to Sima Hui's residence, Zhuge Liang's mind was still buzzing with the day's discussions and lessons with Pang Degong and Huang Chengyan.

Meanwhile, in Lujiang, Lu Xun was beginning his study and gaining some experience that he wanted. Lu Kang and Wang Lang, after reaching an agreement, decided to give Lu Xun a small ranking official position within the administration.

This would provide him with practical experience and an opportunity to apply his theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, without impacting any large scale scenarios that are ongoing right now.

On his first day, Lu Xun reported to the administrative hall, a mixture of excitement and nervousness evident on his face. He was greeted by Lu Kang, who welcomed him warmly.

"Boyan, welcome. We have high hopes for you," Lu Kang said with a smile. "You will be starting as an Assistant Magistrate. It's a position that will allow you to learn the intricacies of governance and administration."

Wang Lang, standing beside Lu Kang, nodded in agreement. "We have also assigned a trusted advisor to guide you. This is Master Han Zhi, a seasoned official with years of experience."

Han Zhi, a middle-aged man with a calm demeanor and sharp eyes, stepped forward and greeted Lu Xun with a respectful bow. "Young Master Lu Xun, I look forward to working with you. Together, we will learn the challenges of administration and governance in the real world."

Lu Xun returned the bow, feeling reassured by the presence of such experienced mentors. "Thank you, Master Han Zhi. I am eager to learn and serve to the best of my abilities."

Over the next few days, Lu Xun immersed himself in his new role. Under Han Zhi's guidance, he learned the day-to-day operations of the local government, from resolving disputes among citizens to managing resources and implementing policies on a small scale. Sometimes the dispute he resolves could get out of hand, and the Orioles that acted as his guard immediately neutralized any threat to Lu Xun, and this caused his jurisdiction to be one of the most secure in the entirety of Lujiang.

Today, while reviewing a particularly complex case involving some land disputes, Han Zhi turned to Lu Xun. "Boyan, what would you do in this situation to resolve the dispute that happened?"

Lu Xun thought for a moment, recalling the lessons he had learned from his studies and his time at the academy. "I believe it is crucial to understand the root of the conflict first. We should listen to both parties, gather all the facts, and then mediate a solution that is fair and just for all involved."

Han Zhi nodded approvingly. "Precisely. Always remember, good governance is about serving the people and ensuring justice for both sides."

As Lu Xun continued to familiarize himself with his role, he also found time to study under Lu Kang and Wang Lang. They provided him with deeper insights into statecraft and strategy, sharing their experiences and knowledge.

In the evenings, Lu Xun would reflect on his day's work and studies, often writing down his thoughts and observations. His time in Lujiang was proving to be a transformative period, where the experience he gained as expected helped him improve.

Due to this, Lu Xun's reputation in Lujiang began to grow. His dedication, insight, and willingness to learn impressed both his superiors and peers. Slowly but surely, he gained the respect and recognition of the officials and nobles in Lujiang.

One afternoon, as Lu Xun was engrossed in the meticulous review of taxation records using the new accounting method which has spread after it showed great results, a knock on his door interrupted his concentration.

He looked up to see an older official, Liu Shen, standing at the entrance. Liu Shen was known for his years of service and deep understanding of the administrative complexities of Lujiang.

"Sir Lu Xun," Liu Shen began with a respectful bow, "I hope I'm not disturbing you while doing your work."

Lu Xun stood up and returned the bow. "Not at all, Master Liu Shen. Please, come in. How may I assist you?"

Liu Shen entered and took a seat, placing a scroll on Lu Xun's desk. "I have come to seek your advice on a matter that has been quite troubling. It's regarding the allocation of resources for the upcoming harvest season. Despite our best efforts, we seem to be facing shortages in some areas while having surpluses in others."

Lu Xun took the scroll and began to study the details. After a few moments of silence, he spoke thoughtfully, "It appears that there is a misalignment between the predicted yield and the actual needs of each district. May I suggest that we conduct a more detailed survey to get updated information? This will allow us to redistribute the resources more effectively and ensure that every district receives what it needs."

Liu Shen nodded, clearly impressed. "That is a wise suggestion, Master Lu Xun. I will begin organizing the survey immediately."

As Liu Shen left, another official, Zhao Xi, approached Lu Xun with a different concern. "Sir Lu Xun, we have been facing difficulties in mediating disputes among the local merchant's clan. I hope to gain your perspective to help us find a resolution."

Lu Xun listened carefully as Zhao Xi explained the issues. After a moment of contemplation, he proposed a series of mediation sessions where representatives from both sides could voice their concerns and work towards a mutually beneficial agreement.

Word of Lu Xun's practical and thoughtful solutions spread quickly. Soon, other officials and nobles started coming to him for advice on various matters, appreciating his outside perspective and innovative approach.

His age was no longer seen as a barrier by other officials, who disdained him due to his age, connections, and low experience. Instead, it was viewed as a source of fresh ideas and new energy.

In the evening, as Lu Xun was wrapping up his work, Lu Kang and Wang Lang visited him a visit. "Boyan," Lu Kang said with a proud smile, "I have been hearing wonderful things about your works. Your ability to analyze situations and propose effective solutions is truly commendable."

Wang Lang nodded in agreement. "Indeed, you are proving to be an invaluable asset to Lujiang. Your growth this past few weeks has been wonderful, I can't wait how it will be in a few years."

Lu Xun felt a deep sense of accomplishment but remained humble. "Thank you, Uncle and Master Wang Lang. I am grateful for the guidance and support you have given me. It has allowed me to apply what I have learned and contribute to our administration."

After their conversation, Lu Xun left his office alongside Lu Kang and Wang Lang, their conversation continuing as they strolled through the bustling administrative quarters. Soon they partway, heading toward their respective residence.

Meanwhile, in Jiancheng, the atmosphere was tense and somber. Ma Teng's Army was still reeling from the devastating defeat at Tianshui, where Ma Teng and Ma Chao had suffered a crushing blow.

The battle had cost them dearly, not only in terms of the soldiers slain but also with the capture of the formidable general Pang De who inspired many of Ma Teng's men in the battle.

In the Governor's Castle main hall, Ma Teng and Ma Chao were deep in discussion with their remaining generals. Maps and reports were spread across the table, detailing the current state of Jiancheng's defenses.

"We must strengthen our defenses here in Jiancheng," Ma Teng said, his voice heavy with the weight of recent losses. "We cannot afford another defeat. If we lose this city, our position will be severely compromised."

Ma Chao, his face stern and determined, nodded. "Father, we must also send scouts to monitor enemy movements. Cao Ren and his army will not miss this opportunity to press his advantage, so we need to be prepared for any attacks."

One of Ma Teng's generals stepped forward to give his opinion. "I will take charge of fortifying our defenses, my lord. We need to build more fortifications and ensure that our supply lines are secure."

Ma Teng stayed silent before nodding his head. "Okay do it full of concentration, General. So there would be no loopholes or weakness in our defenses and your efforts would not be wasted."

As the meeting continued, Ma Chao could not shake the thought of Pang De now in enemy hands. "We must also consider a plan to rescue General Pang De, Father," he said, his eyes burning with resolve. "He is a vital asset to our forces, and we cannot leave him in the captive of Cao Ren's Army."

Ma Teng nodded solemnly. "Agreed. We will devise a plan to free him, but first, we must ensure the safety of Jiancheng. We cannot risk another defeat, Chao'er."

Outside of the hall, the soldiers of Jiancheng worked tirelessly to reinforce the city's defenses. The sounds of construction and preparation filled the air as walls were strengthened, trenches were dug, and weapons were sharpened.

The people of Jiancheng, on the other hand, were weary and mourning their fate, as they were afraid that they would suffer the same fate as Tianshui, which cast a dark atmosphere in Jiancheng.

As night fell over the city, Ma Teng and Ma Chao stood atop the walls, looking out into the darkened horizon. The flickering torches below illuminated their faces, reflecting their solemn expression.

Ma Teng sighed deeply, his eyes filled with concern. "The people are weary, Chao'er. They fear that Jiancheng will suffer the same fate as Tianshui. We must do everything in our power to raise their spirit so that they would not betray us like in Tianshui."

Ma Chao nodded, his jaw set in determination. "I know, Father. We have fortified our defenses and prepared our soldiers, but we cannot underestimate Cao Ren's trickery now that he is helped by the slut Wang Yi. She is a cunning woman and with Cao Ren's formidable army, this combination is very deadly."

Ma Teng placed a hand on his son's shoulder. "We must remain vigilant and united. The lives of our family and followers depend on our ability to withstand the coming attack."

Ma Chao looked out over the city, his heart heavy with the responsibility that lay before him. "We will not fail them, Father. We will fight with everything we have."

Meanwhile, in Tianshui, the atmosphere was one of quiet determination. Wang Yi had finally emerged from her mourning, her sorrow, and sadness for Zhao Ang's death still fresh in her heart.

She steeled herself, knowing that she had to avenge the death of her husband and continue the dream her husband had, which was to bring prosperity to Tianshui.

Wang Yi entered the meeting chamber, where Cao Ren, Jia Kui, Zhang Ji, Xu Huang, and Han Sui were already gathered. The room fell silent as she approached, and everyone turned to face her, their expressions varied from surprised to respectful.

Cao Ren spoke first, his voice steady. "Lady Wang Yi, we are honored to have you join us. Please accept our condolences for the death of your husband, My Lord had prepared some rewards to at least alleviate the loss you feel."

Wang Yi nodded, her eyes resolute. "Thank you, General Cao Ren. I am here to discuss our next plan of attack on Ma Teng. We cannot let them prepare themselves. We must press our advantage and continue our attack."

Jia Kui stepped forward, pointing at Jiancheng on the map that was spread across the table. "Our scouts report that Ma Teng and Ma Chao are reinforcing their defenses in Jiancheng as we speak. They were anticipating our next move."

Xu Huang leaned in, studying the map. "The terrains around Jiancheng are formidable, filled with mountainous areas. We need to find a weak point, an area we can exploit to gain access into Jiancheng's location not through the main road."

Zhang Ji, stroking his beard thoughtfully, added, "We must also consider the morale of their people. If we can sow fear and uncertainty among the populace, it will weaken their resolve and make our assault more effective."

Han Sui, who had remained silent until now, spoke up. "We should also be wary of their reinforcements. Ma Teng and Ma Chao still have allies among the Qiang people who may come to their aid, and before you ask no, I can't control all of the Qiang people.

Wang Yi listened intently, her mind racing with possibilities. "We need a multi-pronged approach. General Cao Ren, you will lead the main assault on Jiancheng, and coordinate with our scouts to find and exploit any weaknesses in their defenses."

She turned to Xu Huang and Zhang Ji. "Generals Xu Huang and Zhang Ji, you will focus on disrupting their supply lines and causing chaos among their ranks, which means going behind Jiancheng. If we can cut off their resources, it will weaken their ability to sustain a prolonged defense."

Finally, she looked at Han Sui. "General Han Sui, you will be in charge of monitoring and intercepting any reinforcements that may come to their aid. We cannot allow them to bolster their defenses."

After se finishes her words, she turns to Jia Kui to ask for his opinion, "What do you think Master Jia Kui? Is this plan feasible to be implemented?", Jia Kui hearing her question nodded his head in amazement confirming that it was feasible.

Jia Kui never expected that Wang Yo would have such a talented mind in strategy, and realize how Zhao Ang can rule Tianshui stable, it was because of his wife.

Cao Ren clasped his hands together. "Very well. We have our plan. Let us prepare our forces and move swiftly. Jiancheng will fall, and the Ma Clan's resistance will be crushed." Everyone dispersed to carry out their assignment, leaving Wang Yi and Jia Kui alone in the hall, where they begin to evaluate the plan they had made, to see if there is any weak points that needed to be closed or some part of the plan to be replaced with something better.
