Leng Yuchen, who was standing on the street, leaned against the blue windmill, grabbed a cigarette, and stuffed it into his mouth. The cigarette ashes drifted towards the roadside, then dissipated in the wind, along with his memories.
"Ah, isn't this the worldwide limited edition sports car that isn't not going to be on the market until next year?" a girl asked in awe, while glancing at the snazzy vehicle.
"Yes, I just saw it in a magazine yesterday!" another onlooker exclaimed.
Leng Yuchen had become accustomed to hearing praises, as he was quite handsome. The gesture of bowing his head and lighting a cigarette against the light was mesmerizing to the girls on the street.
"Five years..." Leng Yuchen murmured before he took in a puff of his cigarette.
Recently, his heart had been trembling in an inexplicable way. In his recollection, this same thing had happened once, five years ago. This was when the woman, whom he had been looking for five years, seemed to have disappeared from the earth.
Just when Leng Yuchen's mind was being troubled by this memory, he glanced into the distance and saw something that made his throat tighten involuntarily.
Then, the cigarette in his mouth immediately fell to the ground, as he was utterly shocked. It was her!
Inside the taxi, An Qi's small face was pressed to the windowpane. It looked like she was asleep. She looked as charming and innocent as ever. In fact, she exactly the same as Leng Yuchen had remembered her being!
Leng Yuchen immediately got in his car door and followed the taxi. The acceleration of his car stunned many passersby, who were taking pictures beside his sports car just moments before.
At this moment, during the peak hour of the evening, the traffic in the four lanes was quite congested. An Qi's taxi was turning left, while Leng Yuchen's car could barely squeeze into the left lane.
Just when he was about to accelerate, the siren from an ambulance sounded behind his car. Leng Yuchen had to give way to the ambulance, and by the time he turned back around and looked, the taxi was nowhere in sight!
Leng Yuchen was so angry that he slammed his fist down hard on the steering wheel and shouted, "Da*n, I was so close!"
As his blue sports car came to a stop at the side of the road, he took out his cell phone and sent a voice command message, "The woman appeared! Send additional manpower to find her!"
At the same time, An Yufei was half-kneeling at the back of the taxi, while looking out of the window. At this time, she spotted the owner of the blue sports car, so she asked, "Oh, is that my No. 1 father?"
An Yufei stared at her mother, who was leaning sleepily against the window. She cleverly helped her mother sweep away her messy hair from her forehead.
It was probably her gentle movements that woke An Qi, who then said, "Well, we've got a red-eye flight, so it's normal that I would fall asleep."
An Yufei stretched, then said softly, "Yeah, that's true."
After her nap, An Qi stroked her daughter's soft hair. She found the fact that her daughter knew the wording "red-eye flight" somewhat strange, as she knew that she had never mentioned these words to her daughter before. Hence, she wondered where did her daughter had learned their meaning from.
During the past five years, except for some unhappy moments during the first year, things had gone quite smoothly since An Qi had An Yufei. Though she was not rich, at least nothing worrying had happened. In fact, An Qi sometimes even thought that An Yufei was her guardian angel, changing her fortune.
While she was looking out of the window at the rows of camphor trees, An Qi took a deep breath and felt her energy being refreshed. After An Qi stopped stroking An Yufei's hair, An Yufei combed through her hair as she looked out of the window.
At that moment, An Qi's belly suddenly let out a loud rumble. "Mom, didn't you just eat an airplane meal?" An Yufei asked.
The slight disdain seen on An Yufei's face was strangely similar to Leng Yuchen's facial expressions.
"Uh... Well, one airplane meal was not enough for me, and I couldn't eat two." An Qi replied, while smiling awkwardly.
The taxi driver looked at her through the rear-view mirror. An Qi raised her head and looked back at the driver with some embarrassment.
Perhaps the five years abroad had gone too smoothly or An Yufei had protected her too well, but she did not notice anything suspicious about the driver at that time.
An Yufei frowned and muttered, "Oh, mother, how far does Aunt Manman live from here? How long will it take us to get there?"
As she heard her question, An Qi mistakenly thought that her daughter was as hungry as she was, so she pinched An Yufei's white face and said, "It shouldn't be much longer. Is my little girl hungry? Let me see if there is anything in my bag!"
After all, even though An Qi was very hungry, she was not willing to starve her daughter! As An Qi ran her fingers through her bag in search of something for them to snack on, An Yufei rolled her eyes.
If it was not for the official documents that detailed the relationship between An Qi and her mother, An Qi would have suspected whether her mother could possibly really be her biological mother. An Yufei silently wondered…
Did she not observe that the driver had been circling the piazza ever since we left the airport?
Isn't it silly for me to have been blown by the wind while I was sleeping in the car just now?
Didn't you kill those poor children before they left home?
An Yufei sighed and felt hopeless. As the driver looked in the rear-view mirror. An Qi's innocent face was the first one he spotted.
Just as the driver was trying to relax and laugh at himself, in the rearview mirror image, there was a strange smile…
