Capítulo 3: Chapter Two

Three years later...

Okay so Mrs. Sanders we are just going to ask you a few questions. Is that alright?" The reporter woman asked.

Skylar fidgeted a little in her seat. She would never get use to this attention. She didn't know how celebrities did it. She barely had any privacy. With the newspaper and the paparazzi always popping up she was lucky if she would be alone in her own home.

"Okay." She nodded.

It has been three years since she lost her beloved husband. Her children reminded her so much of him day but day. Their looks. They way they would say things. The small things they did. It almost hurt but the pure love and pride she felt for them erased the pain. Or dull it. Which ever you would like to use.  And now here she was having an interview with Brittney Daniels.

"So how does it feel to be in your shoes?" Brittney asked.

"Um…..what do you mean?" Skylar asked clearly a little nervous.

"Being a...well the successful woman of the year. I mean you have your own company. And not to mention that you are a single mother. How does it feel?" She repeated.

"It feels…...good. Although.. .this isn't my company…. Well I didn't start it completely." She said.

"Really? Do tell." Brittney said intrigued.

"Well where should I begin?" Skylar asked.

"The beginning." She said.

"Well…..my husband Markos...him and I were best friends. Since our toddler days. And it didn't take long before we were highschool sweethearts. Then after college he proposed and I said yes. His mother, my mother in law never accepted the fact. It was good the first two years but then…..he got sick. And sicker. And sicker. And then he finally told me. Markos had a very rare lung disease that was fatal. Honestly the doctor thought that he would have died long before then." Skylar said sadly retelling her story.

"Oh my...I'm so sorry." She said.

"To make matter worse I was pregnant with his twins. I didn't know what I was going to do. And when he finally left me it was even harder.  Six months later I found out I was having triplets instead of twins. Two boys and a girl. My life and joy. Markos never told me he was a billionaire…..he left this whole thing to me. For me and his children." Skylar smiled a little.

"Weren't you angry that he didn't tell you?" Brittany asked.

"Even if I wanted to be upset I couldn't. I was already at risk of loosing my children. Plus he was thoughtful. He took care of everything. The funeral. The business. Me. I couldn't be mad. All I wanted was for him to be proud. And now I'm sure he is. I escalated this company to so many new heights." Skylar smiled.

"Wow. That is truly amazing. Did you and his mother ever get along?" She asked.

Skylar's smile slowly faded away and she let out a small sigh. She was hoping to avoid that question. She hated the way Catherine felt about her. She tried everything to change it. But you can't change a person. They have to change themselves.

"Sadly no. She….blamed me for his death. You see….my parents disowned me because I married Markos and she turned his whole family against me. Only his twin Markus ignored her. It took about two years for his two sisters Annette and Maria as well as his father  Darius to talk to me and see my children for the first time. Catherine….she won't even see her grandchildren. They remind me so much of Markos. Especially MJ. Markos Jr. Front the way they act to the way they speak they are him through and through." Skylar smiled thinking about her children whom she loved.

They spoke a little more changing the subject to her company and why they were really there. After a few more questions they ended the interview. Brittany pulled Skylar to the side to speak to her.

"There are going to be some people out there who thinks this story is fake. But I want you to know that I believe you. You really are like a voice for us women. You have been through so much. You are our hope." She said.

Skylar looked at the woman before her and  couldn't help but hug her. They shared a moment and then it was interrupted by three small heads running between camera men and weaving between chairs. A disheveled and disgruntled Nanny running after them. Skylar tried to hold in her laughter and so did Brittney.

"Markos. Maurice. Sasha. Come to mommy." Skylar called.

They giggled and laughed and came towards her. Sasha fell and both Maurice and Markos stopped. Skylar stepped forward and watched as they helped their sister up and wiped her tears.

"Don't cry sis." Maurice said. Markos hugged her and brought her over to Skylar.

"Mommy. Sasha fell down." Maurice said.

Skylar bent down and looked sasha over making sure there were no bruises.

"Are you okay honey?" She asked.

Sasha wiped her drying tears and looked at her mother. She slowly nodded and skylar kissed her cheeks making her giggle.

"I'm okay mommy. I'm a big girl." Sasha said.

"Yes you are." Skylar said while nodding."Did you miss mommy?" she asked.

All three of them nodded and hugged her giving her a wet sloppy kiss on the cheek.

"They are so sweet." Brittney gushed.

"Thank you." Skylar smiled.

"I'm so sorry. They ran and I couldn't catch them. They are really fast." Carla, their nanny said.

"It's quite alright Carla. I was done anyway. No harm done. Next time however I need you to watch them. Andrew will assist you as well." Skylar said seriously.

Noticing the time Skylar picked up Sasha and grabbed the hand of Markos. Telling him to grab Maurice's hand they walked to the car that was waiting for them. Body guards on each side of them. Markus suggested it. And seeing some of Markos' own enemies she didn't mind the extra precaution. She hired the best of the best. Ex- marines and secret agents. It was like she hired her own A-team.

"Don't forget that we have a very important meeting to attend." Markus said surprising Skylar.

"You always seem to pop up in places I least expect you to. How are you brother in law?" She asked.

"I'm fine. And how are my niece and nephews?" He asked directing his question to the small toddlers.

"Uncle Mark."  Mj and Maurice called

"Markus guys." He laughed.

"Mar Mar." Sasha laughed.

Skylar laughed at the face Markus made at the nickname her daughter called him. She got into the black eight seater SUV and began to buckle her children into their booster seats.

"Are you okay?" Markus asked.

"I'm fine." She said however he made her stop what she was doing and look at him. He held onto her shoulders and she sighed.

"That's good you have the acting down pact. Now how do you really feel?" He asked.

"I still miss him you know. But I guess that is normal. It's hard Markus. Every time I look in their faces I see him looking back at me. I miss him so much that it hurts. And I know he's in a better place but I God I miss him. I find myself in my room holding his pillow and crying. Because that's the only thing that still has his scent on it. " she sighed. Tears brimmed her eyes but she refused to let them fall. Her heart ached just a tad bit just from the memory of him.  She really did miss him.

"Maybe it's about time that you made good on the promise you made my brother." Markus said.

"What are you talking about?" She asked.

"I love being in their lives but they need a man to call father." Markus said to her. He inwardly winced at the sour look she gave him and almost regret saying anything about it.

"Here I am mourning your brothers death and you want me to go on dates! No one can replace him." She yelled.

"I never said that he would replace him. I know that. But you need a man in your life just as much as they do. You have needs-"

"And what do you know about my needs  Markus? Not everyone has to live and breathe off of sex." She snapped. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath. She shouldn't have blew up like that. He was only caring for her. Nothing was his fault. "I'm sorry. I'll fall in love some time. I promise. Just now isn't the time. I need more time to myself." She explained.

"Okay. If you think so." He said cautiously.

"And I do. So let's go to the meeting and sign this deal okay?" She asked.

He slowly smiled and nodded making her sigh in relief that he let the topic go. She finished her task and they made their way to her company building. Upon their arrival  skylar was met at the door by her secretary Rosie O' Donald.

"Ma'am. The investors are here. They want to see you now." She rushed out.

"They will just have to wait. My children and their well being comes first. I will be there once I feel my children are not secure and safe. If they don't like it then they can leave." Skylar said.

There was a nursery in the building for people like her who had children and didn't want them too far away. Or who couldn't find a babysitter. Plus their Nanny would be with them. She bent down to her children's eye level and hugged them.

"Now I want you all to be good for mommy and I'll buy ice cream." She smiled

"Ice cweam?" Sasha asked in her cute three year old voice.

"Yes sasha. Ice cream. Now look out for each other. Mommy will come and get you when she's out of her meeting." She said and kissed her before she left them.

Now she was in business woman mode. She entered the meeting room and all eyes turned to her including a pair of warm honey brown ones.

"Sorry to keep you waiting gentlemen." She said.

"Yes. Why did it take you to long to get here?" Brown eyes asked.

Instantly she knew that he would be a problem. Despite his Prince Charming characteristics she was most certainly not impressed. By his looks or his attitude.

"My children needed my attention. Problem?" She asked.

"Maybe you should have attended to them and allowed someone else to handle this." He suggested.

"I see. Mr?" She asked.

Brown eyes scoffed as if he was offended. But the small sound didn't affect Skylar one bit. Nor did it move her. She sat in her black leather chair waiting for an answer.

"Kalel Anderson." He said.

Kalel? Like the name of superman of Krypton? That was ironic. But she was still not impressed.

"I see Mr. Anderson. But as it is…..I do not tell you how to run your company and you will not tell me how to run mine. D'accord? Agreed? Good. Now you want to build a mall? I hope you have already gotten the land." She said getting down to business.

"Yes. Lets see your designs." Mr. Anderson ordered.

Skylar narrowed her eyes at him. She was calling the shots in the meeting no him. She didn't care if he had the whole Alpha male aura about him. This was her den.

"Rosie tell Timothy to bring them in."  She ordered.

The meeting went on for about three hours until they, meaning  Mr. Anderson, the thorn in her side, finally picked a design. The conversation moved to supplies and workers. Then cost and deadlines.

"Hey stop touching my leg man." One of the men spoke out. Everyone froze and looked at the two men. That was not something you just blurt out.

"I didn't touch your leg." The other man denied.

"I felt you sir. You most certainly did." He said.

"No he didn't. But I know who did." She said causing everyone to look at her.

She pushed back her chair and looked under the table. There was her daughter playing with shoe strings. Everyone else looked under the table too.

"Sasha." She called. Sasha turned to her mother's voice and smiled a semi toothless grin. She crawled towards the head of the table where Skylar picked her up and cooed at her. Sasha giggled and hugged her.

"Children shouldn't-"

"Do not tell me what to do with my children! We were done here anyway. Weren't we gentlemen?" She asked, her voice changed from a motherly coo to ice in  two point five seconds. The men in the room shivered at the switch. Even Kalel shivered a little.

The gentlemen quickly nodded not wanting to feel the wrath of a moma bear. She looked at Kalel Daring him to challenge her. He only smirked and nodded. Surrendering to her.

"Rosie. We are done here. Now I'm sure Mr. Anderson can show himself out unless he would like to come with the rest of the group while I escort them out." she said.

"I would miss it for the world." He said.

Skylar turned not before rolling her eyes. She could not wait to get this particular deal  done with.
