The general made a brief signal with his hand, and a few nearby servants scurried off to get the concubine. Shifting his weight side to side, general restlessly proposed the idea of going back into the main hall to the prince. In any case, he wanted to leave the messy scene behind.
"Hmph. The view here is unsightly. Don't think that just because we're leaving this area indicates I'll let you off. You'll have to give me a proper report!" The Crown Prince swung his sleeves purposefully and headed in the direction of the hall, his feet moving swiftly.
The general tensely wiped his brow as he became lost in thought.
Hongyue observed the general coldly before lightly asking, "Father, should I go with you?"
The general stared at her, his heart distressed, "Are you sure you didn't see anything?"
"Father, this daughter was so frightened, I can't be clear I didn't see anything," Hongyue replied.
The general frowned. Just as he was about to dismiss his eldest daughter, Concubine Mei appeared. As the nimble lady made her way over to the general, she smiled and spoke out.
"My Lord," The madam's voice was delicate and sweet.
The general's eyes softened considerately. He planted on a warm smile on his face as he unfolded his arms and welcomed his lover. He dipped his head closer to her face, whispering something into her ears. The concubine appeared to be shocked but gave a slight nod. The general beamed fondly, but Hongyue could still sense something else behind that expression of affection.
The general cleared his throat before turning to Hongyue, "My daughter, come with your father. You're a witness, so you're needed for an explanation."
Hongyue observed his face as he spoke, all the while, her face appeared harmless with a hint of innocence. What does he intend to do now?
"Yes, father, this daughter will do so," She softly answered.
Following behind the two, Hongyue noted the servants that followed behind her had acted strangely. To her front, Concubine Mei was gradually gathering power in her right hand as she whispered a spell under her breath. The soft green glow that slowly accumulated in the concubine's hand turned Hongyue's eyes colder.
En, I see.
Out of the corner of her eye, Hongyue could discern a servant stepping out of line and edging closer than he should have to her body. His hands suddenly struck out, aiming for Hongyue's back. However, Hongyue swiftly moved quickly to her left and abruptly seized on to the general's sleeve.
"Father!" She called out, her voice shaking.
The servant wasn't anticipating for Hongyue to move away and tripped forward himself. His body collided onto Concubine Mei and made contact with the concubine's right hand. Not a moment later, the servant collapsed to the ground right on the spot, coughing out blood. Hongyue's eyes drifted to the concubine's hand as her grip tightened its hold on the general.
It looks like they weren't holding back.
Was killing her today really that urgent?
Hongyue narrowed her eyes. She predicted there would be some underhand scheme, but it seems like this concubine was already too presumptuous.
The general grimaced before getting a slight shake of his head.
"A spy! Take him away and behead him."
Hongyue clicked her tongue.
Tsk.
Looks like her father really took her as a stupid idiot. He actually thought she knew nothing about magic or his dumb farce. What a joke. He must have planned this with his lover earlier, or else the first person he should suspect was the concubine, not a mere servant.
By claiming the servant was a spy erased any flaws towards both evildoers as well as getting rid of the evidence. However, how will he explain this new, unexpected death to the Crown Prince? Or will he hide it? If he was, she wasn't going to let him have the chance. Hongyue grabbed on to his hands and pretended to shake in terror.
"Father, I'm scared," She murmured.
Upset his plans had failed once more, the general ground his teeth in anger. Hongyue, this stupid girl, was so very fortunate, wasn't she? What a waste! He glanced piercingly at Concubine Mei before planting on a fatherly smile.
"It's alright, let's move faster. The Crown Prince is waiting for us. We will get in trouble if he waits too long," He assured.
Hongyue sneered.
In the past, he always brushed off and belittled all the difficulties she lamented about. The Hongyue in the past had believed her father was overwhelmed by all his politic work; thus, he never had the time to help her.
It seems like it only required pushing a few more buttons before this two-faced father of hers cracked and revealed his real face.
------------------
Arriving at the main family hall, the general sat on the center seat along with the concubine on his right side. The Crown Prince was unostentatiously waving his fan while rapping his fingers on the table impatiently. He crossed his legs and set down his fan by his side. A dull clang from the fan echoed throughout the room.
"You sure took your time," He remarked dryly.
Concubine Mei blushed in embarrassment and waved over a servant.
"Go prepare the tea for our guest," She ordered with a calm face.
The general laughed dryly as the servant passed out the tea. He flapped his sleeve elegantly to his sides as he spoke about the female servant's death.
"It was a spy. Upon being found out by my daughter, she committed suicide by consuming a death pill behind her teeth," Without even blinking his eyes, another lie passed smoothly through the general's teeth.
Hongyue truly wanted to clap for him.
What a sly brain he had.
Truly amiable yet truly dumb at the same time.
The Crown Prince wasn't an idiot. Of course, he could see there were fundamental family issues, but he couldn't rightfully point out it out since it had nothing to do with him. Saying it was a spy plainly meant 'Don't look any further.' The Crown Prince lowered his gaze.
Seeing no further reaction from the prince, the general clapped his hands.
"Servants, bring in the tea," He commanded sharply.
Two servants brought in tea in a separate pot along beside a single cup.
Hongyue frowned.
Each of the tea servants was using the edge of their outer clothing wrapped over their hands. It was a subtle move, but she still caught it. She shifted her eyes. Poison? No, that would be too bold and too stupid. Too hot? What worth would that have? Did they want her to personally serve the tea as a sign of respect, mess her up, then kill her?
Her mind paused on that thought. If that was the case...dear father, this daughter should prepare something for you as well.
"Hongyue, my dear, go serve the tea," The general encouraged the eldest miss.
Hongyue shuffled over, keeping her head down to hide her eyes. At the serving table, she tapped her fingers on the wooden surface.
Her eyes dilated.
From her power of influence, she could determine the water was overly hot to the point where it was almost boiling, and the cup holding it wasn't porcelain but rather metal.
If she were a 'normal,' it would be no suspicion she wouldn't be able to handle the pain of being burned and discard the tea along with the cup onto the prince's lap.
If so, she would definitely get a death sentence from the prince.
She tilted her head up.
Oh~
So is that how you want to play? Then this daughter will play along.
Hongyue gave a simple smile before she reached out for the cup.she lamented about. The Hongyue in the past had believed her father was overwhelmed by all his politic work; thus he never had the time to help her.
It seems like she only required pushing a few more buttons before this two-faced father of hers cracked and revealed his real face.

She reached for the cup.
So the tea was already served by the servants. However, it's like a respect thing to personally serve the tea to a guest. It's like an 'I acknowledge you' thing
