Sweat trickles down my spine along with a subconscious shiver. I'm frozen, my eyes entrapped by the hypnotic gaze of...that thing. A greyish dark mound, only the glittering emerald hued eyes visible.
A demon.
A beast, that shouldn't be here, in our village. It makes no sense. As I was traversing the wood that separates the old man's house from the rest of the village I came face to face with it. Literally. And now, after all my hard work, I'm going to die.
The realization of this coupled with my unwillingness to leave churns within me. I have a storm brewing inside me but externally I cannot move. Oh the irony. I wanted to become a wielder, defending others from the very demon I am now paralyzed against.
It was all for nothing, I realize. I'm just a puny side character, a cannon fodder, for my sister. I've wasted my life away and yet-
The hulking mass's arm, if that can even be called as such, raises and comes hurtling down towards me. I would close my eyes but I am unable to do so, entrapped by those emerald orbs. How can such an evil thing, have such pretty eyes?
...
....
.....
BOOM
My eyes enlarge in astonishment. My imminent doom was stopped, by mere milliseconds...by my sister. Who now stands-no kneels with her sphere thrust forward, holding the creature's hand paw-thing, in place.
"ALI RUN! I'll hold it off!!"
She screams to me.
I'm frozen but in that moment her voice activates something within me and I sprint towards the rest of the village. I run, brushing past leaves and brambles and finally make it out-only to see everything in flames.
I sprint, faster than I ever have in all my training, going through the whole village inside and out. Past the baker's, past the butcher's, finally to our house. I rush inside.
...
Blood. Everywhere. And another of those hulking creatures gnawing on something-my mother's corpse. I scream and run at the creature.
"GIVE HER BACK YOU MONSTER!!!"
I grab her hair, the long locks she was so proud of, attempting to tug her from the thing's grasp. It merely glances down at me as if witnessing a pesky fly. And once again I'm on the receiving end of one of these creature's swats.
BOOM.
And I am saved a second time-by my Master. In his hands are a pair of large metal swords-Master uses swords?.
"Get out of here! Go find your sister!"
"BUT HE HAS MY MOTHER!"
"GET OUT NOW, there's not thing you can do for her! Do you want to join her?! Do you want your sister to join her!!!?"
I stare at him, tears I haven't noticed cascade down my face.
My sister. She's out there, alone.
I sprint out. "KASIAAAAAAAAAA!"
...
....
.....
She's not there. She's not there. SHE'S NOT THERE.
The place where I left here in the forest. It's empty. I scour the surrounding area. In desperation I return to the village, back to our house.
It's empty.
I run back to Master's house.
It's empty.
There's no one, there's nothing.
...
Wait.
Master and Kasia are strong. What did they tell me? Kasia said to run, Master said to get out. Maybe they made it out! Maybe-maybe-without further thought I start running. Away from the village, away from master's house, away from our house, away from everything. Just through the wood. I've never been this far from home, yet is there a home any longer? My mind doesn't really process this-only filled with thoughts of finding someone-anyone.
...
I loose track of how far I've run and eventually there's no longer any sensation. Just numb. And I slowly succumb to my body's exhaustion...
