"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!"
"I'm terribly sorry your Majesty but there is no cure for them," said Doctor Su. "The pouch contains a mix of rare herbs that are harmless when separate but when mixed, their opposing elements clash, creating an intricate poison that first makes its victims fall unconscious before slowly killing them through organ failure."
"If there currently is no cure then you shall create a one."
"That...I apologize for my incompetence but that is beyond my abilities. I am not a poison master so I am unable to make a cure and I don't want to kill them because of my incompetence.
"Kill them? Why would you create a cure cause them harm?"
"If they aren't given the correct remedy it could potentially agitate the poison and cause it to spread faster and..."
"What is it?"
"I do not know if I can make one in time."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Since they are all unconscious, their bodies will all slowly deteriorate and grow weak even if they weren't poisoned. We can slow the deterioration but there's a limit to how much that will help especially with the poison."
"SIGH. Forget it. Zhen will find someone else to cure them. For now, you shall focus on treating Miss. Jing."
"Yes, your Majesty."
Once Doctor Su left the room, Head Eunuch Ping was called in.
"How may I be of service your Majesty?"
"I need you to go to the Apothecary Association and post a request for a poison master. I will grant any request of the person who can cure the Jing Family."
"Yes, I will get it done right away."
---------------------------------------------------
Near the southern border of the Song Empire, Grandmaster Tian has currently entered no man's land. The surroundings were deserted and filled with mountains with the occasional shrub.
Grandmaster Tian has been following the Emperor's orders and up ahead, he can now see the gate of the army's campsites. He had set off on his journey the morning he was asked and hasn't stopped a day to rest since but it has taken him a week to get here.
"HALT! No one is permitted to travel beyond this point. Turn around and leave."
"Dear soldier, I am here under the orders of the Emperor to pass a message to General Jing. Could you please let me through?"
Grandmaster Tian took out the Emperor's token and showed it to the two before him."
"I shall let the General know. Please wait."
Grandmaster Tian patiently waited as the soldier entered to camp. 10 minutes later he returned and behind him was another man.
"Hm? Grandmaster Tian?" said, General Jing. "There is no problem, you may let him in."
"Yes, General."
They opened the gate and Grandmaster Tian entered.
"Haha. It's nice to see you old friend. Why are you here? Don't tell me the Emperor made you personally come just to pass a message?"
The General is a tall and well-built man. Although he is nearing 60 years old this year and his long hair and beard have both turned white, his commanding presence alone is enough to make anyone quiver in fear. With all the years, he has spent in battle, he is well respected by everyone, especially his soldiers.
"General Jing, it has been a long time since we last saw each other.
"Yes, it has, the last time was when I went to the Emperor's coronation ceremony. Ah... the party that night sure was fun. You must be tired from traveling here, I will have my men set up a tent for you. Get some rest, we can talk later."
"I will rest after we talk. I have an important message and it cannot wait."
"You can tell me as we go to your tent."
"That will not be appropriate General, and you should call your son. He needs to hear this too."
"Then let us talk in my tent. Ren, go get Long and bring him to my tent. He should be in the fields patrolling with his soldiers."
"Yes, General!"
As they walked to General Jing's tent Grandmaster Tian looked around and saw all the soldiers who were training.
"This sure brings back memories."
"Hahaha, who would have thought that the brat from back then would now be the Emperor's advisor?"
"Hmph, what brat? You're only 5 years older than me. Now, look at you. You already look like an old man."
While reminiscing, the two reached General Jing's tent and sat as they waited for Long to arrive.
"Father I heard you are looking for me."
"Hmph, how many times do I need to tell you to call me General."
Jing Long ignored his father and turned to Grandmaster Tian.
"It's nice to see you again Uncle Tian."
"Hoho, look at you now. The last time we saw each other your were still holding your blanket and hiding behind your Father while sucking on your thumb."
"=.=, Please never mention that ever again."
"Hahaha"
The three men laughed before settling down.
"Ahem. So what have you come to report old friend?"
"A week ago, the Zuzhou had sent assassins to attack your Jing Estate late in the night. They rendered everyone in your estate unconscious. I assume they did this so it would be easier to assassinate your granddaughter and to prevent any witnesses. The Emperor's guards managed to get to her on time but Miss. Jing had confronted the assassins and almost lost her life. When I left, Miss. Jing was still in critical condition and everyone from the Jing Estate hadn't woken up yet so I cannot tell you two if they fine or not."
"Then... my brother, sister-in-law, and nephews... they are also..."
"My apologies but they are unconscious. as well."
"DAMMIT! WHO ARE THESE SO CALLED ZUZHOU! Uncle Tian, you must know their identity. Please tell me who they are!"
"I understand your feelings but what do you plan on doing?"
"Get revenge for my family of course!"
"Hmph, with your status as an indigo martial, you won't be able to scratch them even if I do tell you who they are."
"But..."
"Long! Please leave the tent for a bit and calm down."
"Father! How could you be so calm about this?! Brother is in danger and everyone back home is ..."
General Jing glared at his son and made him leave the tent.
"...Old friend, they have been silent for so long, why have they begun to move again and why have they attacked my family? It's a meaningless move that brings them no benefit."
"It wasn't your family they were after. They were after your granddaughter."
"My granddaughter? Why would they target her? If I remember correctly, she should only be 12 years old this year."
"You mean you haven't heard? The Emperor never told you? What about your son?"
"? What are you talking about? Other than occasional reports and commands, the Emperor has not mentioned anything else and my son hasn't brought up anything out of the ordinary either."
"Sigh. I knew the Emperor was making this a national secret but I didn't expect him to not even mention it to the General..." thought Grandmaster Tian. "Two years ago your granddaughter was tested to have violet potential."
"HM?!"
"It was a big deal in the Song Empire. I can't believe you haven't heard of it"
"We received news of it through the rumors but who would have thought that it would be my granddaughter... So they attacked her to remove a potential threat..."
"...Yes, you can think of it that way. The Emperor has asked for you to go back to the capital and stay until everything regarding your family is settled."
"... I shall send Long to head back with you. He will make the decisions in my stead."
"General! As the head of the family, you should be the one to take care of such a big problem. Long hasn't handled anything like this before. As as you can see, he still lets his emotions get the between of him and you want to handle something this important? That's too much!"
"I can't head back."
"WAN JING! Your entire family is about to die and you still won't go back to see them! You haven't been there for them for so many years. I didn't say anything back then when you suddenly left everything in the family for Jun Jing to handle but now when they need you the most, you won't even go back to see them? What kind of father are you?!"
"YOU THINK I DON'T WANT TO GO BACK! I AM PETRIFIED AT THE THOUGHT OF MY FAMILY ENTIRE FAMILY DYING BEFORE ME BUT... but... who is going to defend the border if I leave? Do you expect me to abandon my hundreds of thousands of men to die in battle because of my personal matters?!"
"Hmph. That's why I am here. I will be filling in your post until the Emperor has given you permission to leave the capital."
"You expect me to leave just because you're here? You haven't participated in a battle for YEARS! You aren't capable of leading an army anymore."
"Shut your trap. Stop making up excuses. I am more than capable to handle your post. Now leave or I will kick you out!"
General Jing wouldn't stop arguing with him so Grandmaster Tian grabbed his friend and threw him out of the camp before making an announcement.
"General Jing is hereby removed from his post as General until the Emperor says so. He is no longer allowed to step into this campsite. Anyone who doesn't obey this will be removed and punished personally by myself."
SORRY FOR BEING AWAY THE LAST FEW DAYS!!!!!!!!!
