Capítulo 99: Breaking The News
"Ray, I'm pregnant." Anna said out of nowhere while still calmly eating with her head down. But if you looked carefully, you would notice that she was holding the spoon a bit more tightly and that her hand was trembling a bit.
"Wait, what!" My movements stopped altogether as silence ensued first before I blurted those words out. My eyes and mouth were wide open at the sudden declaration by Anna and my mind had temporarily shut down, not allowing me to see the small changes in Anna's body language.
"I said I'm pregnant." Anna took a deep breath to stabilize her nervousness before she raised her head to look at me and repeated her earlier words. I could only stare at her with the same expression as I didn't know how to respond to this. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I don't like kids or that I don't want a baby of my own but this has really come out of nowhere.
"Wait a second. Just give me moment." I managed to somehow snap out of my daze however and set down my utensils to quickly calm down the shivers that was running through me. One hand, I was happy to be a father but on the other hand I can't help but worry whether I would be a good father or not and I was also worried about the reaction of the other girls.
But then, I saw Anna tightly clenching her fist while she stared at me. while she tried to keep a calm face, I could see that she was a nervous wreck. Maybe it was about being a mother or maybe it was worrying on what my reaction would be to this piece of news. And thinking of this, I knew I had to stop any other thoughts and be at her side so that she could be rid of the nervousness.
So I stood up from my spot and made my way over to her. Once I reached next to her, I wrapped my arms around her and gently put her head to my chest. I didn't say anything because I didn't need to. Anna was someone who understood me, probably more than anyone else. So in moments like this, there wasn't any need of words.
And as expected, her nervousness was slowly fading as her slight shivering body calmed down. We kept our posture like that for a while before we separated and I bent down to one knee in front of her while holding her two hands.
"Let's spend the rest of the day at the house, just the two of us. We can tell the rest about the news tomorrow, ok?" I spoke with a smile that was slowly but surely widening with each passing moment. The happiness was slowly taking over me and I did nothing to hold it back.
"Ok." After the initial nervousness, Anna seem to have suddenly become shy since the result of our 'hard work' finally paid off. I couldn't help but chuckle at that since I suddenly remembered what she had said to me before we came to the current timeline.
"I suddenly remembered what you said to me before we came here. You said you wanted to practice making babies. Guess our practice ended up bearing its fruit didn't it?" After I saw the inquiring look she was sending me, I explained the reason behind my laugh causing her to flush red which made me laugh some more.
Anna and I spent the rest of the day just snuggling with each other on the couch as we talked about anything that came to our minds. Of course the majority of the topics lingered around the baby growing inside of her stomach. Anna couldn't wait to go baby shopping but I knew that if I went shopping with her now while she still had a lot of energy, she would suck my energy out instead. So I managed to convince her to put a hold on to that topic. After speaking to each other for the rest of the day, we retired to bed when it was night time as I made sure to take extra care of Anna from now on. Non sexually, I mean.
The next day, we went through our daily routine before we held each other's hands and teleported to the guild. It was still early so there weren't that many people present at the moment. But the rest of the girls had already arrived including Mira who had returned just a moment after we arrived. Seeing as everyone of the girls of mine were present, Anna and I made our way towards them to inform them about the pregnancy first.
What happened wasn't exactly how I thought it would have gone. Sure, the girls had gotten a lot closer to each other so I didn't have to worry about any big negative reaction from them. but I did leave them all alone for a long time and then suddenly came back with a new woman and she just happened to be pregnant before anyone else. So you can't really blame me for worrying about their reaction.
"Ah, we were wondering when such a thing would happen. I mean, you two are living together since the beginning so it is not that much of a surprise really. Anyways, congratulations Anna-nee." Lisanna was the first one to vocalize their opinion and I was slightly surprised at her words before I understood what she meant. They must have already talked about Anna and my nightly activities from the first day so they had ample time to prepare themselves. Well, as long as they don't fight and remain in a good relationship, I'm fine with anything.
"But even so, you have to work hard in the future so that you don't leave any of us behind for too long." This time it was Cana who put me in a daze but I recovered quickly and revealed a mischievous smile at what she said.
"We can start working hard now if you want Cana." I said in a sing song voice which made her blush even though she shouldn't be, considering that she was the one who said the underlying words in the first place.
Following that, we had a harmonious chat with each other as the rest of the girls crowded around Anna. Soon enough, the rest of the guild also found out about the news and so the guild descended into a festive atmosphere. Everyone was giving their well wishes to both Anna and I before drowning themselves in alcohol. Because this was a big day for me, I decided to cancel the training session and just celebrate Anna's pregnancy with the guild.
Makarov himself was over the moon since he considered this to be us giving him a grandchild, since he considers the guild members as his children. He was the one who drank the most and he was running around and dancing as well to celebrate the news. Seriously, can't he act his age for once? I mean, he should be keeping the guild in line at this type of situation as the guild master.
Nonetheless, I decided to just ignore it and spent the day with Anna and the girls. Anna was both exuberant and relieved at the end of the day as she was happy to see so many people as family that celebrated the news with us. And she was also relieved with how the other girls reacted to the news. After all, she was also worried about this when she found out she was pregnant. But after getting relieved, she spent the rest of the day enjoying herself in the company of the guild.
