Stepping outside again, James prepared himself to go back into the fray. His prior victories against the various devil beasts as well his reignited motivation made James an unstoppable force at the field. This also caught the eyes of various higher-ups standing in the field. Against various beasts, James was the first that charged in and the last that left the battle, after making sure that the beast was slain.
Not only the higher-ups were drawn by the vigor that James showed, also the other soldiers were caught up in the actions of James. Especially the ones that were saved during some clutch life and death moments. Their admiration towards this young knight grew immense.
…
That day's battle continued for another two to three hours. At the end of the day, James was exhausted to a point that even moving a finger was almost impossible. However, as the fighting ended and everyone started to gather up to go back to the barracks, he forced himself the last powers in his body to move.
"Everyone, this was an incredible fight you all pulled off. This is not something that everyone can do." Gerald Wimbledon spoke out to all the soldiers on the wall. "The reserves will man the wall to look out, as for the rest of you, we will leave to the barracks. Rest up and enjoy the remainder of your night. Tomorrow morning, when everyone is rested up, we will go back to training and fight against these demons." Gerald did not hide anything from his troops at this moment. "As you all have guessed, our stay here will be like hell, however at the end of this, there will be huge rewards. Especially for those who managed to prove themselves."
Having said these words, Gerald turned around and moved towards the barracks, with his men following behind him. James indeed agreed with the words that were said there. If everyday continues like this, it will indeed be like hell. It was only the first day and he was exhausted beyond measures, and this had to continue on for a few months.
…
Arriving back at the barracks, the first thing James did was to go to his bed. He did not know how he managed to get all the way back to his bed, but he somehow managed. Not even removing his armor or sword, he put his head onto the pillow, directly falling in sleep. This is the first time that James was this tired.
…
"Wake up young knight."
James did not know how long he had slept for, but the words calling for him did wake him up. Having difficulties opening his eyes, he felt his eyelids shut a few times.
This time the voice that called him was louder, "I said to wake up, so wake up already!" But this time, there was also another voice that cut in, which was proud, yet gentler. "Cut him some slack, he has fought to exhaustion today. Let him wake up on his own phase."
A few minutes passed, and James finally was able to open his eyes properly and focus on the visitors. The faces he saw surprised James immensely. The voice that was harder came from Sir Edward. However what surprised him the most was the other person there. It was the first prince of The Kingdom of Graycastle, Gerald Wimbledon.
