Capítulo 2: The Oath
At the front of the door he saw Prince Gerald talking with Archbishop Mayne. As all the knights got into order, the two at the front started to walk into the Church. It has always been customary that the knights take an oath before the Months of the Demons start. This is in order to align them with the Church for the upcoming battle. Moreover as has happened in the past, groups from different countries started to fight between themselves. Therefore this taking of an oath ceremony is to prevent the same problem from happening again and prevent any infighting that might happen between soldiers from different kingdoms.
Standing at the back of the group, James followed everyone into the building. He heard Archbishop Mayne, who is responsible for Graycastle knight's oath call out, "I welcome the first Prince Gerald of the Kingdom of Graycastle to The Holy City of Hermes. It is an honor to have a prominent figure of Graycastle and a renowned fighter within our ranks. Moreover, I also welcome the knights from The Kingdom of Graycastle. As I am pleased with you arrival, I will not like to make you all wait and will go directly to the oath ceremony."
As he said this, Prince Gerald knelt on one knee in front of the Altar and Archbishop Mayne. All the knights followed quickly behind him getting on one knee. "Now repeat after me," said Mayne, "I hereby solemnly pledge…"
An echo could be heard from all the knights repeating him at the same time "I herby solemnly pledge…" Mayne continued, "…with my life, that I will treat everyone fair and will hold no past grudges. I will defend The Holy City of Hermes with my life against any foreign invasion, be it demonic beasts or even demons. Even if they are my past enemies, anyone who is fighting with me side by side, I will consider them all to be my brother and help them in need and fight. If I or anyone, be it from my country or anywhere else, breaks this oath, the highest punishment is the rightful judgment and may misfortune befall on them."
At this point Mayne looked at Gerald and added another line to the oath, "This pledge will be not broken during the Months of Demons and my stay at the Holy City of Hermes." With this last sentence Mayne made it clear that this oath is only effective during their stay in The Holy City.
After everyone repeated what Mayne said, Mayne clapped his hands and said "You can all rise now." He walked towards Gerald, "Now that that is over, I will tell you where to stay. As you are one of the bigger groups that came this year and also are the first prince of Graycastle, you will be appointed into The Righteous Barracks at the North-West of the city. You and everyone that followed you here today are thereby also responsible for the North-Western area of the walls. Of course, when order comes to you, it is expected to follow them, even if you are a prince."
