Uh, no. Author said that she is NO disciple of the Shadow Lord and is NOT trained in assassination and stealth techniques. He's saying that Shadow Lord's ability to stealth and assassinate is lower than Lake's but ONLY in technique and that Shadow Lord is obviously still stronger as he is a Martial Lord (3 whole realms higher than Lake at the moment).
Even Gwen, who had met the Shadow Lord, one of the few Martial Lords on the continent and the only assassin among them, wouldn't hold a candle when compared to Lake in terms of pure stealth technique and assassination skills.

Finally, he used some of his points to purchase an enhanced compound bow. It had an empowering mana rune on it and was made out of a mix of metal and Rank Two monster bones and tendons. Although the bow required a strength index of around 8~10 to draw, the power it could unleash was enough to kill most of the weaker Rank Two monsters in one shot and heavily injure some of the stronger ones.

The one that Lake sent out was a more simplified version of the exercise that allowed the students to practice it. Moreover, Lake had added a little game within the exercise to help motivate the students to practice it more.

I don't think there are any special lessons or weapons you can purchase with school points besides maybe paying a third year to teach you. So that only leaves food and I think Lake is too reasonable to waste a lot of points on food except he can make new allies like he did with Jayce and Landor. But I agree that using the third years in such a way is highly questionable as a school. It would make more sense to properly teach them and let them specialize in certain fields, e.g. scouting. It's kind of counterproductive if students can't participate in lectures or training sessions because they need to get points to graduate.
This wasn't because training to become one was hard or anything like that, but just that simply no one among the third years was interested in training to become a scout! The training can be described as both simple and repetitive as the main way of training was through repeated practices, which helps to enhance your overall awareness and senses overtime. However, this usually takes a decent amount of time out of a students practice time and with how the academy was pushing them for points to graduate, a lot of students were forced to drop the idea of training to become one even if they knew how useful the skill was.

Thinking back on it, the title did make some sense. Although unofficial, I was technically the leader of the first years. My training program contained almost all of the first years, excluding Bradford and Allen, and everyone apart of it followed my commands.
