Hey, Hopeless (the author) here. I just wanted to get a couple of things out of the way. First of all, thank you for giving my story a shot, whether it was only the first chapter or you've made it to the hundredth chapter. As a returning author, I know how hard it is to gather and maintain an audience on this site, especially when you try your hardest to reject the prevailing writing trends that have ruled this site since its inception. I'll be honest with you all. Most of you won't find my story very interesting. I don't blame you. You've become accustomed to the adrenaline-pumping action cultivation and fantasy novels that throw arrogant young masters, blood feuds, and martial tournaments at your protagonist endlessly. We all know how those stories end. We've all read them. There will be fighting, life-and-death situations, and usually, a desire to reach the apex of cultivation for one bone-headed reason or another. In Pursuit of a Mortal Life is not that story. If you dislike that, feel free to bail. No hard feelings. The protagonist of this story is not a fighter at heart, and the world he lives in is not a lawless, "dog-eat-dog" world that is governed by the law of the jungle. The amount of classic arrogant young masters the protagonist will encounter will be dismally low. In fact, the number of fights the protagonist will encounter will also be low, but not zero -- that is an important point. The protagonist is a pacifist at his core, but self-defense is not beneath him. And although the protagonist would rather use dialogue to resolve a problem, not all problems can be fixed with words alone. Sometimes blood has to be spilled when negotiations break down irretrievably. I am not a writer who plans stories out. I write organically and whatever I feel gets put on the pages. That means everything is fair game. I also feel that stakes don't exist if characters continuously avoid the call of the Grim Reaper. No one is safe in real life, much less in this story. Not even the protagonist. I have no qualms about killing him is the coin flip lands against his favor and the situation is exceedingly bad. Life will continue even after we're dead and this story will be no different. In the end, this is just a warm-up book for me so I can get my head back in the game for my main novel which is on another account on Webnovel. I've been neglecting that novel for about a year or so, and really need to get back into my writing habits before I jump back to that novel. Feel free to write your reviews as you wish, so as long as you don't resort to personal insults or obscenities. I will delete those reviews. Let's keep things clean and civilized, folks. I also encourage you to update your reviews as the story progresses. Sometimes your impression changes as you continue to read, for better or worse. Have fun reading and stay safe out there. Toodles.
