You raise fair points—thank you for taking the time to read and reflect on the story so deeply. Allow me to address them. This story originally began as a cathartic writing exercise, and it was only later that I decided to develop it more deliberately, focusing on nuances and core themes. One key nuance I wanted to explore was how emotions interact with skills and vice versa. For example, Van, despite having over 30k resistance, still gets drugged—not because his resistance fails, but because he subconsciously allows it. I initially wrote that part without fully considering its consequences, but later on, I decided to expand on this concept—like in the chapter where Marcy and Van sit in the tavern before he heads to Amoria. Marcy admits that she misses Magus deeply, and in her grief, throws herself at Van, seeking something that isn’t really there. Lalyn’s experience reflects a similar nuance. She thinks she should be drawn to Van, but in truth, everyone around him is projecting their longing for Magus onto him. They’re so consumed by their loss that they idealize Van, convincing themselves that he embodies qualities he doesn’t actually possess (well, in this case, passives), due to how tied he is to Magus—much like Marcy. As for Arlyn and the passive skills issue... well, that one’s on me. I admit it’s a plot hole that slipped through, and I’ll either address it down the line or leave it as it is, depending on how the story unfolds. Again, thank you for reading!
One thing to note, like with Van's Untrusted passive, Magus’s skills are a bit more nuanced. If Van's assumption is correct, Magus likely acted the moment he noticed his daughters showing those inappropriate feelings—before they could fully understand or process them. Magus would have been highly attuned to those signs, while the girls themselves wouldn’t have had the same awareness. What’s clear is that Magus hasn't been around them for the last two years, so Lizzy developing feelings for someone else, like Van, isn’t entirely implausible. As for Amoria’s disgust toward Magus—that might just be what she tells herself. She knows how she should feel, what the right reaction is... but that doesn’t mean she can truly bring herself to feel it, especially when her guard is down. I hope this clears up some of your questions, and thank you for reading!
thank you, glad you liked the recent chapters!

Miyuki folded her arms, studying him. "You punishing yourself for something, Sakurai? Is that why you can't have someone liking you?"
