I quite agree with you in him not having any creativity with gis magic and is quite content with it not working in harming dragons but when ut comes to transfiguring an egg i dont quite underwhat you mean, are you perhaps saying he should have transfigure an egg to become a much bigger and stronger dragon when it hatch or even another more powerful creature entirely? well that might be a good idea if it was possible but i dont think the author would go that route as it would make his original dragon (anarion) obsolete and weaker than the transfigured dragons. Tho he really is brain dead in using his magic tho, he could just transfigure stuff into giants weapons and threw it at the dragons to kill them if the elemental magics are ineffective
