there was also the entire Kalos story. where mega evolution got invented because a guy was sacrificing pokemon to bring his pokemon back to life. it's not a really friendly world it just mentions dark stuff in passing then moved on
The gym originally belonged to the twins Grandpa who was a war veteran. Ah yes war, another thing Gladion came to know about this world was that it was not as peaceful as the anime showed.

children's hair color isn't really permanent it changes. my dad has pictures with 3 different natural hair colors before he turned 18. he was blond, then it turned red then settled on dark brown. mine went from blond to brown.
One of the kids had black hair that he has inherited from his father while the other other had red hair. They were twins despite different hair colour. The boy was named Gladion Vortex while the other twin who was a girl was named Gwenyth Vortex.
