Really enjoying the story so far man, don’t let any negativity stop you from putting out your story into the world. There aren’t a lot of decent TWD stories that are still ongoing so you are definitely filling a void that many have been craving!
I am enjoying the story so pay no attention to the haters. If they really want a story done a certain way they can write it their own damn selves. The whole point of fan fiction is that it gets done in interesting or different ways depending on how you envision the original content could be changed. Some of his potential upgrades will actually change how he looks and affects the world around him depending on what he takes and the world he is in. He doesn’t know it yet, since it’s his first world with the system, but each world has their own rules depending. Anime worlds will mostly be based around anime tropes such as a handsome and slim hero, maybe slightly exaggerated extremes such as being highly desired but very oblivious of the women around him wanting him etc.
It’s an automatic system that once you select your schematic will craft the item for you. Each schematic has their own length of time to craft so some items only take a few seconds per craft while others may take minutes, hours, or even days.
It only took me a few minutes and I was able to craft the stone axe, stone shovel, and stone spear which I quickly added to my quickbar and then practiced changing back and forth from before taking a few test swings with each. One thing that I noticed is that my Stamina Points, or SP, operated much like the System had mentioned HP does. When I have HP, all damage affects that bar acting like a shield and only after it hits 0 does my actual body start taking real damage.

The samples could be used for a wide range of things depending on how the main character decides to level up and what schematics he ends up running across later on. It can be weaponized, used as a cure, use for permanent mutations or buffs, or perhaps simply be saved and used in some other way in the future. There may also be other types of samples depending on what worlds future zombies are imported from in the regular portals that repopulate the zombies... Good question though, SoD 2 was a game I spent many hours playing myself and I am really looking forward to SoD 3!
