The item in question was immensely powerful, and had a lot of potential...should she be able to actually use the damn thing. As due to its background, it was next to impossible for her to use it at the moment. So, she planned on claiming it for herself, and then storing it away until she could use it, similar to a certain Heart that was still hidden deep within the Tower of Fate, which is where this item would also proside.

I hate how Ashley has good growth in game 1 and they throw it out the door in game 2 and they let her get some growth back in game 3
Williams nearly ruins everything with some really fuzzy logic, Shepard backslides into her trauma a bit, Revan gets to voice some of my personal complaints about this encounter, and then Shepard gets to play with a lightsaber. Fun times all around.
