it makes me cry that people continue with specific transfiguration spells. there's no way everything is a unique spell, it should be more like small object wood to metal imho.
I think they are using the word transformation purposely to imply similar but different. the tooltip already showed it can't change mass or material only shape. even though it's not canon it makes perfect sense to me.
