The Joker's origin varies, but most have him in the red hood gang in some way, shape or form. I personally prefer the version where it's his first criminal job then he falls into the acid which turns him crazy. Instead of always being crazy.

take ibuprofen and Tylenol (any over the counter stuff should work), while applying an ice pack of some kind should help, if you can raise the hand (at least above the heart) to let gravity pull most of the blood away from the hand (swelling is increased blood flow basically) it should also help
