That's actually an interesting implication, that in the main series Choso got a complete incarnation (or mostly so) because of his own strength, and Eso and Kechizu got increasingly incomplete forms. Whereas here a quality vessel bypasses that weakness.

She has literally lost more HP in this fight than it would have taken to spend it into MP and just leave... Author either forgot and hamfisted the arc a little too hard
Just binge reading, this is good stuff author. As for interludes, yeah they're entertaining stuff and allow you to slide in smaller reactions that would sidetrack the story with a full scene. And if you're the kind of author that gets stunted on specific story progressions, taking the time to backtrack to an interlude can help you think that through in the meantime.
Not a major difference it's just a buff of a single move. And you're right that's the instance of when he used it in the anime, apart from Domain Expansion where it bypasses that restriction via the sure hit and anything living gets hit with Cleave.
You're absolutely cooking so far but just a warning, it's heavily implied Cleave is NOT a ranged attack by default. He only ever calls the ranged slashes dismantle, and his strongest attacks are when he has direct contact which likely means those are cleave. It's likely only ranged when in Malevolent Shrine. However I guess that could either be from using the sure hit as a medium OR a binding vow of "Cleave requires contact outside of MS" in order to strengthen it, like he did with Furnace.
The chapter said that was a side story in a 'different setting'. So if that's suddenly canon that's a wee bit odd
