you are right that it wouldn't be just four times, as it would be four times the size each upgrade, and as four times four is 16 it would currently be 16 times the original size (if rather than the area the diameter is what is doubling then the area is quadrupling as the formula for the area of a circle is πr², and r=d/2, d=diameter, if you double d you double r, and therefore the new r would be 2r of the old... and you can actually rewrite the (2r)² as 2²*r², and two squared is 4 and thus you can actually end up writing the whole thing as 4πr² which would be the result of doubling the radius or diameter 😜

I agree with the correction from Arcemedius, however I have another correction I would add to the same sentence for the latter half... the last word should be wasn't, as in you said he was uncomfortable but just sat as if he was? that makes no sense logically as you wouldn't just sit still usually if you were uncomfortable... and even semantically incorrect as if you were trying to say that he wouldn't move around because of being uncomfortable you shouldn't have used but but rather used and 😅
