I have to disagree here. Jonin instructor's sole purpose is to instruct and protect the team of genin until they grow to become a chunin. This was war, and this was lower on Minato's list of priorities. That's all.
Some called it an excuse. But Minato wasn't their nanny; he was a leader, tasked with protecting an entire village. He couldn't always be there for his students.

Uchiha managed their own clan for thousand or more years. The notion that because of sharingan they can't effectively rule the village... i don't buy it.
Just let clone enter the Sage mode and then unsummon
It was a far cry from Hashirama Senju's Sage Mode, which could be activated instantaneously and maintained indefinitely.
